It really wasn't clear.
It really wasn't clear.
Here's the original since I'm pretty sure most people didn't watch it.
People in suburban settings, in my experience, tend to be nicer overall than in NYC's city settings. When I'm in the suburbs, I can strike up small talk with relative ease with almost anyone. Saying that, most people living in suburban areas tend to live there most of their life and so tend to share a lot of the the same opinions with the rest of their community so you tend to know what you're getting into.
When I'm in the city, it's a lot harder to strike a conversation with people that don't fit my personal demographic and I suspect because so many different types of people immigrate there that it's damn near impossible to relate to most people in any type of meaningful way. So when you're not used to dealing with strangers to begin with (let's not even get into how often people actually try to intermingle into other cliques) you're more likely to just stick to yourself on the street. Also the restaurant looked kinda upscale. I'm not claiming this as fact because I really don't know but from what I've seen, people who frequent upscale environments generally seem to not give a fuck about anyone else period and typically don't get involved unless they can personally relate to the situation presented. I'll back that up with this video and by why the last guy in the top video got involved.
As for the video about the homeless man dying on the street, I really can't explain that other than the city can be scary for anyone at the time of night that the tragedy took place and there is a very negative outlook on people who are perceived to be homeless. Doesn't justify what happened at all, although I can't exactly white knight and try to say I would've called 911 either (and probably would've been upset with myself after the fact).
I tried to look up some studies on why people in cities tend to be withdrawn so I could have facts backing up my statements but I couldn't really find anything. It could also be because I'm wording the question wrong on Google or I just plain suck at searching for this type of stuff.
AoE is from NYC so he can personally attest to how awful new yorkers are.
I mean I'm just giving my personal experiences, I know better than to assume everyone else's experience will be the same.
