There is a difference between gimp and being geared correctly in light of what's available to you. Someone wearing a brown belt, Aurore Body, AF3+1 head, attack mantle etc is on the right track that any other MNK would have been just after 80 cap was released.

So, I'm about to leave after farming Itza pops. I see one guy who has a large amount of money...but I've never seen him fighting anything, doing anything but crafting, etc. So when I look over after the mob is at 70%, I thought "surely I'm being trolled."
After some of the things that had already happened with our run I was already in rage mode, but when describing this over vent I imagine I sounded like this guy just fucked my wife.

Blue mage has always been one of the main jobs played by 100% complete idiots with no idea what they're doing at all, I don't know why. Good blus are SO RARE(<3 good blus, so amazing to play with!). When I used to level before abyssea and made normal pts, I ended up straight up banning blus from my pts, refusing to invite them. Was a few other jobs I did this to, thfs, dncs, etc. Even if I asked them their gear, merits, if they had food, etc, they still ended up being useless as crap :/ I had to ask dncs so many questions about their tp sets and stuff when I got really desperate for a 2nd "support" job, sometimes they'd end up being invited. Jobs that take more skill/understanding/gear sets than most other jobs tend to have the biggest "lol gear" when you examine them.

I used one for like a day. After all the times that I killed Kirin so many times way back in the day of 3+ hours "ASPIR UNTIL HE HAS 0 MP SO HE CAN'T AF" and being WHM only and not really getting many items, I just wanted to wear it. Sold it for a 2000g loss after I got that out of my system. It's not a terrible piece, per se, it's just outdated and easily replaced with easier to obtain and cheaper gear.

Blue Mage has a greater share of idiots. Think of probably the most common ToM you will see on blue mages: Macc Shamshir+2. This is pretty much equal to seeing something like a Thf use a Matk dagger in usefulness.

You do not keep the attack when offhanding it. In the offhand, it is nothing more than a high base dmg katana. Sad really...

People use to do Kikoku/Yoshimitsu (Stage 4 Katana) so maybe it's for DPS instead of showing off. Idk.
