Catwoman was bleh. First half of the book was her nearly naked, then a little bit of nothing happened, then she fucks Batman. Just read hentai if thats what you are looking for.
Batman sells, this is true. Only other really big DC name is Gl, as far as sales goes. Superman isn't a big fish anymore, I think Flash might be a better name right now actually.
Red Hood just didn't do much for me either. Totally agree they just made Starfire an alien slut that can kill everyone.
Birds of Prey was the only book that kept me interested still. Haven't read Nightwing, Supergirl, GL Corps, Captain Atom, or Blue Beetle yet.
Of the 3 series related to GL dropped so far, absolutely nothing has changed there either. Might see something new in New Guardians, but so far it's totally the same. Superman stuff is getting changed around pretty heavily (again), but most of the series are just excuses to launch older characters with new #1s or them mixing Wildstorm into the main DCU.
DCnU! We rebooted everything! Except Batman! And Green Lantern! And probably some other stuff that hasn't been released yet...
Also, in regards to Slutfire, I was reading comments on an article regarding her character change and some were actually defending her new ho-bag self saying,I say it's lazy wish fulfillment. She's showing signs of rape when she was a slave for the citadel army. Blocking out memories, having sex as a compulsion, not associating it with love, difficulty making relationships.
SHE WAS RAPED.
DC, if you really want me reading your comics, release new Gen 13 or Dv8 titles...
Nightwing was a solid read (I've read that story in one flavor or another a few times though)
Edit: Batman was good the last 6 pages, love some detective run.
end of Batman: The Dark Knight
Spoiler: show
Batman:TDK was another awful throwback to the grimdark 90s...it's like DC hopped in a time machine. I didn't read 90% of it, writing was filler garbage.
Spoiler: show
Superman #1: more garbage. And they turned Jimmy Olson into Justin Bieber...AARRGGHHH.
teen titans #1 out today?
Way too many DC books I wanted to check out this week. Couldn't afford Superman, Kyle Raynor GL, Aquaman, Voodoo, or All-Star Western. I did grab Teen Titans, The Flash, Firestorm, and I, Vampire
Spoiler: show
Aquaman #1 is fairly solid. It's obvious that they're going to be putting alot of effort into really stepping him up as a big player again. Alot of the issue deals with the fact that Aquaman is seen as a joke to most of the world, and shows how he reacts to people always giving him crap about being a sub par superhero. Nothing really happens in the issue honestly, it's mostly just setup, but it's well written and Ivan Reis did a fantastic job on the art.
New Guardians looks to be the only one of the GL books getting a "reboot," most of the issue is rehashing Kyle's origin, and the non-origin story stuff is a little confusing, though it's obviously going to be described going on down the line. Stuff happens, you don't know why, and next issue looks like it'll be a nice big action story. Same with Aquaman, the art is very well done.
Really appreciate the fact that DC is releasing these as straight digital versions now, I read these both on my Xoom just killing time at work.
Gonna flip thru the other ones now that I'm home from work. Aquaman is definitely recommend, if nothing else for the absolutely bombing art.
I've been wanting to get into comics since I started reading the Walking Dead. Would you guys recommend these new rebooted comics at all? Mostly interested in the Detective Comics and possibly Teen Titans, but not sure about the others.
Most you can jump into fairly easily with minimal knowledge of the characters. If ther eis a comic shop near you, just walk in and browse. tell the owner you are looking to get into reading some and want to see what piques you interest. You can also check out something like comixology for digital comics.
Teen Titans and Detective Comics are both pretty bad in my opinion. The most important thing I would recommend about reading comics is get them for the writing, not because it's Batman! or it's Wolverine! etc. For the most part, the DC reboot has been disappointing. There are a handful of books I would recommend though but mind you, this is only based on one issue since it just started. Animal Man, Flash, Action Comics, Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, All Star Western and Batwoman are the best titles I think.
I just read Our Worlds At War the other weekend. Holy crap that might be the worst event/crossover thing i have ever read. I couldnt wrap my head around how bad it was. Maybe its just cuz i hate superman. Or because they were talking about this "war" every chance they got. It didnt come across as any sort of war to me.
Only thing I ended up picking up this week for DC was Action Comics #2(which really felt like filler) and Huntress #1. The artwork was beautiful and the story, while nothing groundbreaking, was solid.
animation on Year One is really good. It's Batman's origin though, seen it 500 billion times before. Still worth watching once, imo.
The Catwoman short that comes with it is both ridiculous and entertaining, complete with poledancing Selena Kyle!
not liking Batman's voice. Kevin Conroy or bust!
