Jesse is the reason there's even a show here. Without him, almost nothing would happen. He's the catalyst. Look at the series from the very beginning... Every major plot point revolves around him. He was Walt's means of getting into the business, but he was also the reason they're usually in so much danger. If it weren't for Jesse, Walt would get along just fine with Gus and Mike. Nothing interesting would ever happen. As such, I don't see how you can hate Jesse... He's the main character of the show.

My money is them making Jesse care again. I don't think they'll kill him off. Not because he's the main char or whatever. The deal with Walt stands. If Jesse is gone, so is Walt. I'm not exactly sure what they'll threaten Jesse with but I'm sure it'll be huge. Maybe his family or his last GF there. Something to make him care again.

Yeah I don't know what they could possibly threaten him with to make him care, he's lost most everything he cares about. The only thing I could thing of is maybe his family - I mean I know he doesn't really care about his parents, but I'm sure he'd hate to see his little bro catch a bullet.

It's not that I hate Jesse, I'm just getting annoyed with how he has been this season. Again, I understand the need for it, I just wish he would snap back into it and get back to normal. Jesse has always been my most favorite character on the show, I just don't like what they have done with him this season.

I hope it goes down like how others have said, they do something to him to make him snap out of it and he starts caring again and gets back to normal.

Also, wasn't there an article that said they plan on next season to be the end of the show? I could see them whacking Jesse and then starting to wrap things up. I really hope it doesn't happen though, I want the Jesse we know and love back!

Not sure if I can see them killing off a main character or not, it's a rather bold move!

If Jesse was going to die, it would have been at the end of this episode.

After contentious negotiations between Sony and AMC over Breaking Bad, AMC has renewed the show for 16 episodes and the series will end after that. Because sixteen episodes is a little longer than normal, it is not yet clear whether AMC will air one last season of 16 episodes or break it up into two mini seasons.

Despite the chatter, the renewal for Breaking Bad never seemed in doubt. What was in doubt was how many episodes, and how many seasons the series would continue after the current season. At least the episode count has now been sorted out. Given reports that AMC originally wanted to go with a shortened episode count for season five, this is probably a win for fans — you might be getting a short season five, but there will be a short season six to go along with it, and it adds up to more than a 13 episode fifth season.

Well it's good that they know when to stop unlike prison break and other shows where it just gets farther and farther away from the original premise.

    This, so hard.
Shows which end with a good sense of closure are criminally rare in America

Seriously awesome about them not having a final season with only 8 episodes.

    Spoiler: show
i really like where they're going with jesse if it's geniune, but the scene at the end where mike says something like "[to gus]you got what you wanted, the kid ended up being the hero" makes me think its just a setup for something sinister down the line. I'd love to see jesse trained to be a hitman, the new mike, if you will, but i think they're setting him up to fall. =/

So Mike is going to train Jesse to be a bag man. What he said about how he used to have a partner but now he doesn't, I wonder if he was talking about Victor. I wonder how Jesse would react if he was told/realized that he might may be training as Victor's replacement. So far, it seems like he hasn't made the connection, or perhaps doesn't care.

Also, though it didn't happen quite like I had pictured, it looks like Hank is most definitely going to draw Gus's attention. Walt kinda set that in motion, but not as directly as I had predicted.

I still think the subject of Jesse dealing with Hank is going to come up. What I'm wondering is if Jesse will hold back for Walt's sake since Hank is his brother in law, or if he's going to play the Company Man for Gus/Mike. At the moment, I think I would side with Jesse holding back, but if it ever gets out that Walt watched Jane die...

I'm getting a bit annoyed at each episode having 3-4 different scenes that are really dragged out with almost nothing happening at all.
Sure it's fine when it happens occasionally, as seasons 1-3 had a few, but each episode has had several scenes like that so far. It makes it feel as though they didn't have enough material for the season so they are stretching everything out as much as they can.

Yeah I know what you mean, the scenes with jesse and mike in the car just driving were kind of annoying. I know they were there for effect, they wanted us to feel his boredom. Well, mission accomplished I guess.

I wish they would have had more of mike and jesse in the episode, but more dialogue, more action, more of anything but sitting in the car driving.

There seems to be a few of these scenes in each episode, drawn out for no reason, and it does get annoying, especially when there is so much they could be showing in place of these empty drawn out scenes.

O.o You just exactly outlined the reason for the scenes.

The feel of an episode is very important. Empathizing with the characters is very important. You can't just add unnecessary scenes for no good reason; it will completely throw off the pacing and feel of the episode, and possibly the whole show.

Going by what I know about directing and storytelling, and by comparing this show to others that are considered "good", I can tell that these scenes are very well engineered to convey a very specific "feel". Seriously, watching this show is like hearing one of Beethoven's symphonies. It's a masterpiece.

I think Mike is going to be wary of Gus' plans with Jesse. Mike doesn't seem to like the idea of working with him, but he follows orders. He's a professional. To me it looks like Gus is going to try to turn Jesse against Walt. He's given him a reason to live and completely neutered every attempt that Walt has made at a power play. Walt is digging himself deeper into a hole both at work and at home. Looks like next week's episode is going to be a big one. You could argue that every week is.

Boring your audience is never a good thing, no matter what point you're trying to get across.

I disagree. Tension and atmosphere are hugely important. For me, at least, all the "boredom" was heightening and prolonging the sense of foreboding that something was going to go down.

I didn't find those moments boring at all. I appreciate the fact that this one of the few shows that will build up tension and draw it out.

I didn't find them boring either. I dunno... maybe it is lame, but I find them artistic. I enjoy cinematography that isn't par for a cable series. Anyone remember the 'Fly' episode last season? That was another one that I really quite liked for its different approach.
