To me, Walt is constantly looking for scapegoats and excuses to get away from his guilt. It wasn't him that drove his family away, it was the money. He uses conversation to distort facts so that he's telling his version of reality. He's not a drug dealer, he's a manufacturer. Jesse didn't cause that crash indirectly, but the government did directly. Everything is a complex grey area where he's not really at fault. And he's saying those things as much to convince himself as much as the people around him. He refuses to be the bad guy (and in the previews he says that explicitly), but he is the bad guy. He made reckless decisions to help his family and will continue to use that to try and justify himself.

Really interested to see how they involve Hank in the whole twins vs. Walt. Maybe he has to ask him for help or possibly the other way around if they come after Hank as well. So many possibilities making me excited.

He's definitely trying to make excuses for himself. In the gym speech, it was a mixture of trying to belittle the tragedy to ease his guilt and a bit of inspirational "Move on" talk. His speech was obviously directed at himself.

With Skylar, he's trying to belittle his own involvement in the situation. Personally, I think he should have pressed the "Did it for you" line a bit more. It's the closest thing he has to real justification.

What I'm still trying to work out are his interactions with Jesse. If we stick with the selfish and delusional theme from above, then you could view the scene as Damage control. He's trying to lessen the trauma that he caused to Jesse to ease his own conscience.

Another way to look at it, however, is that perhaps he is including Jesse in his own bubble of self-preservation. He is counting him among his family and attempting to absolve him of accountability the same as he is trying to do for himself.

I favor the second Jesse scenario myself. I think that Jesse is becoming more a part of Walt's family than his real family. It's like Walt resents his blood-related crippled son and views Jesse as the son he should have had. I think it fits pretty well after the Bar scene between Walt and Jane's father where Walt was talking about Jesse as though he were his son.

As such, I think the climax is going to be when Flynn finally finds out about Walt and completely forgives him, but it will be too late for Walt to realize this. Incoming 'Good son' scenario.

I don't understand how Gus somehow has the reigns over the cartel too? I watched the meeting between Gus and the cartel on AMC's site for the Ep. 3 preview, and it still didn't clear anything up... other than the fact that Gus has some serious connections.

And yes, roof pizza = awesome.

Every time they showed the roof pizza I cracked up laughing. That was a really good episode. Walt's vanity and delusion is reaching a crazy pique. I've bought into this series so hard, I also didn't want to see it end. It's almost insane to think that they set up this manhunt scenario and just dismissed it (with all it's promise) just to show the reach of Gus.

That's the thing about this show, it is very good at doing that. The cancer, the splosion/pool/eyeball, etc.

Love how Skyler thinks that what she's a part of at her job isn't as bad as what she knows about Walt. Also have a feeling Walt's gonna be doing Gus a favor at a discount.

If Walt ends up being dragged into cooking again to save himself/family from Gus its no different than him doing it to provide for his family last 2 seasons and will be boring characterwise. I hope they go somewhere good with this.

Fucking roof pizza was golden, when he got shot down I was expecting the pizza to hit the garage door but that shit was great. I can't remember 2 consecutive episodes that were this funny in previous seasons.

As much as I wish Saul would die screaming in a fire, he was totally right about the blow-back thing. If Skylar ever rats on him or if he ever comes clean, then all of her reasons for leaving him become pretty much pointless. It would be a nice twist if she were forced to do something extreme to protect her kids (like kill someone) just as Walt comes clean to Hank or something. I think the only way I could accept Skylar coming around would be if it were too late.

I wonder if roof pizza was intended or if it just happened and they went with it. Either way it was golden.

I thought it was just accidental genius. I mean it looks kinda hard to throw a pizza onto a roof while it's still in the box, how many pizzas would that take to get it just right?
The 2nd highlight of the episode was Jesse screwing his parents out of their house. He's finally taking a turn into a real badass instead of just some scruffy looking punk(hope he keeps that shaved look).

People dislike Saul? Maybe it's because of my affinity for Mr. Show, but I love Bob Odenkirk and think this is the part he was born to play.

Heh just watched them both back to back, killer.

    Spoiler: show
So the Mexican hitmen were sent by the higher ups of the guy who was bumped off at the end of the last season (the guy's uncle is the one in the wheel chair in ep. 2) - but the guys who sent them are on the same league/below the chicken fast food store man? Hence how he was able to call it off so easily.

It'll probably end up that Walt starts brewing again for him, now that he's in his pocket. However, he doesn't actually know about the two guys - so he could easily shrug it off. Interesting. It's quite the little cliff hanger!

I just watched the new Southland last night. What is up with the Mexican cartel hitmen and there silver tipped cowboy boots? I've never heard of that until watching BB and Southland.
