I don't know about the cowboy boots but I assume it has similar origins to the Narcocorridos (that music video about Heisenberg in S2 as an example). Basically, in the 1980s-1990s Mexicans in LA wanting to create something uniquely Mexican to get away from basically listening/acting like black people, started retooling the traditional cowboy music/culture of Sinaloa/Chihuahua and other northern Mexican states to be more modern. Shit subsequently moved southward and spread amongst the people still in Mexico, in the 1990s-2000s. I suspect the cowboy boots have similar origins.

how is having tuco's cousins knowing who they are looking for within the opening scene of this season 'slow'? S2 took like 3 episodes to resolve the stuff w/ Tuco. Much of AMC shows' appeal is the tension/glacial pace, I mean if they hadn't dragged out the stuff with Walt/Tuco's cousins for 10min it would not have had the same dramatic effect

Because...very little happened very slowly? I don't mind slow starts if it helps the build it, but it doesn't stop it from being slow (and that doesn't mean it isn't good).

Kind of referenced tangentially in all 3 articles but its clear the stereotypical narcocorrido writer/who the corrido is about wears these boots.

I'm not claiming nothing has happened, or anything. but looking at the broad scope of what all goes down in season 2, and gets done in 13 episodes, the pace seems somewhat slower. I'm not going to spell out the plot points for those who haven't seen it, but I just started season 2 again and I'm like whoa they cover a lot of ground in 13 episodes.

I feel like they're getting a lot done. It's not as action packed as the explosive start to last season, but they've covered quite a bit of ground in two episodes. Jesse has become a pretty aggressive character, Walt is throwing pizzas on rooftops and spiraling ever faster, we've had a huge revelation, plus we've had this insane cousins show up ready to rape only to be called off. I feel like this season is spinning slowly and will pick up steam flinging everyone on it into orbit.

This has been a weird, tense, episode. I feel like they could be moving faster. And of course, as I say that, Skyler drops a bomb shell, Hank freaks out, ha.

That episode was crazy tense. It's amazing how this show makes you sympathize with Walt, who is the bad guy, make no mistake, and dislike Skyler who may be a bitch, but is the victim. That's great writing and acting.
