I figured Walt was being replaced from the second the guy said hi from under the stairs. I almost thought Walt was going to kiss him after he recited the astronomer thing. Of course, if the Mexicans are satisfied with just taking out Hank, then maybe Walt won't NEED to be replaced in the immediate future (not until the cancer kills him, at least).

Of course, Hank is in fucking Rage Mode after the wife prank, so I don't know if I'd bet on the twins taking him out or not... I know that Jesse sure as hell better GTFO.

For those who may have missed it, I'd like to point out an example of the masterpiece that is the writing for Breaking Bad: In the first 2 seasons, Walt developed something of a patriarchal relationship with Jesse- which is to say, he looked after Jesse like a son. This season has been all about whether or not Walt has thrown away his morals and officially gone to the Dark Side. We've seen him try to quit, then relapse, then justify, then betray, then try to salvage, etc etc. He is teetering oh-so precariously on the edge throughout this entire season so far. In this episode, we see Walt being hopeful since he's found a comprise with Skylar. We see him optimistic in his relationship with his son. We see him express his love for chemistry as he revels in his work and conversation with his new assistant.

Then we get to the RV incident; his first instinct is to call Jesse and warn him. After he decides against it, he rushes to the mechanic ranting about how his finger prints are all over and he's gonna be taken down....

It's just completely genius how they manage to keep his actions and personality so ambiguous. You just can't pinpoint his motives. So many of his actions can be spun from either direction, while the more clear-cut ones are almost always balanced by another equal but opposite action.

I wonder if Hank will draw the conclusion that whoever was in the RV knows him. I mean no random drug peddler can call the cops and say specifically that Hank's Wife is in the hospital.

This + the fact that Hank called Walt about the RV and than later Jesse hauls ass right to the RV.

The real question is whether or not the disposable phone that was used to call Hank can be traced back to the lawyer's office or not..

To be fair/more ambiguous I think the reason for not telling Jesse was, like he said, because he might be under surveillance.

Holy fuck that episode was intense. Walt is gonna fuck himself over for Jesse's sake. And everything with Hank was just, wow. Episodes like that make it hard to wait a week for more.

Holy fucking epic.

My interpretation of how things happened: Gus or his cleanup man was Hank's anonymous cell phone tipper. Reason being, if Hank died with the Jesse incident so recent, the DEA would be more likely to follow up on Hank's lead and come down hard on Jesse, who would almost certainly sell Walt out. Of course, leaving something like that up to what Hank's reaction would be is kinda iffy, so it may have been the cleanup man acting independently.

The Gail situation is really fucking with me. I think it's safe to say that Walt felt a bit threatened when Gail showed his proficiency even without supervision, but I still can't decide what Walt was thinking during the Temperature fiasco. Walt has a history of both excessive Pride, and self-delusion. This means whether he made a mistake and couldn't accept it, or Gail made the mistake and he couldn't let it go have about equal chances of being true. Then me with my "Dark Side" philosophy for Walt opens up the possibility that he purposely gave Gail false numbers so he could have him fired and bring in Jesse to try and smooth things over (and thus, save his own ass).

In other words, was it an excuse to get Jesse in, or was it calculated to get Jesse in. Furthermore, what are his motives for getting Jesse in in the first place. Compassion, or manipulation? What is Jesse to Walt? A friend/partner, or a liability?
