Finally! Been waiting for another Rainbow Six game to appear.

Rainbow Six Set to Invade New York With Home-Grown Terrorism
A new interpretation of the classic Rainbow Six, the tough-as-nails tactical shooter that asked gamers to carefully plan out the nuance of a breach like a choreographed dance, is in the works, a source familiar with the unannounced Ubisoft shooter tell Kotaku.

We've also heard that the game will in many ways be a departure from the sameness found in Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel, and a return to what helped separate the shooter from others of its ilk.

It's unclear if the in-development game will be shown at E3.
The original Rainbow Six is more tactical and focused on stealth than on weapons. Before each mission, in those early games, players were asked to view a briefing and then build a team, pick their weapons and equipment and finally create waypoints that the secondary members of the team would follow. Once the mission started, players had only control of one team member at a time.

Rainbow Six will be a far more story-driven game than previous iterations of the Tom Clancy branded title. The game is meant to take a step in a different direction, telling a bigger, much more gritty cinematic story than previous versions of the game.

In this still-to-be-titled Rainbow Six, players will be tasked with stopping a homegrown terrorist group operating in America. The group, fed up with the greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them, decides to target New York City.

While the gameplay is based on some classic Rainbow Six mechanics, there is a brand new cover system that takes you out of the first-person perspective and into the third.

A new icon-rich graphics style helps to highlight members of your team during a mission and other pertinent information.

Contacted Thursday, Ubisoft declined to comment.
    Absolutely love the series.

Story-driven....cinematic....., sounds like yet another R6 game that ditches the whole planning phase of the originals which I enjoyed so much.

I hope this doesn't disappoint, Raven Shield was so good and then Vegas, while not a bad game, really shouldn't have been a Rainbow game to begin with

New Rainbow 6 Might Be the Most Innovative Shooter in Years
While Ubisoft's still-secret, yet-to-be named Rainbow 6 game skipped an E3 appearance this year, it is still very much in the works we're told.

Here is our first look at early, rough images from the game, a game that promises to mix the former glory of the hard-as-nails tactical shooter with a brand new gameplay twist: Morality.
Rainbow 6 will be a far more story-driven game that previous iterations of the Tom Clancy branded title with gamers tasked with stopping a homegrown terrorist group operating in America. The group, fed up with the greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them, decided to target New York City.

At the heart of the game is a branching morality system that changes the outcome of key moments in the game based on the in-the-moment decisions the player makes. Early development currently has the outcome of these decisions shape the path you take toward the game's ending, with many of the levels having multiple endings. These decisions, we're told, can drastically change the story. In practice, that means that it will be impossible to play every level in the game on a single play-through. Instead, gamers will be rewarded with new experiences based on the changing decisions they make in subsequent plays of the game.

    http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets...11/06/ubi1.png

In action the decisions a player is forced to make seem like they can be emotional, powerful moments in the game. In one example seen first hand by Kotaku, for instance, the terrorists break into a home and kidnap a stranger. You take on the roll of that stranger, forced to hold a trigger button to prevent a vest loaded with explosives from blowing up. Later, on a heavily-populated bridge in New York City, the perspective shifts, having you control the Rainbow 6 team there to take down the terrorists and take out the hapless, walking bomb.

The in-game graphics highlight where other members of the team are as you work your way to the innocent wearing the suicide vest. Icons allow you to target particular body parts on enemies, allowing you to decide whether to kill or incapacitate. Those icons show you the blast radius surrounding the man holding the detonator, once you approach him. They also show you how many people are in the vehicles nearby, like a bus that is packed with nearly 100 people. The decision you're forced to make in this scenario is to sacrifice the man with the explosives, or risk the lives of hundreds. One option has you tossing the man from the bridge, experiencing some of his memories as he plummets, and then watching him explode.

As heart-rending as that moment was, it sounds as if Ubisoft is still weighing the cost and benefits of implementing this new, interesting morality system in the game. One option has the game not including it at all.

If it remains, the notion of shaping a game by morally-driven decisions is a powerful new element rarely seen in a shooter. This new idea has the power to not just move Rainbow 6 beyond the realm of today's shooters, but perhaps many of today's games.

I love my shooters, but the notion of finally adding to them the very real human cost of gunplay, of decisions that impact not just a country's safety, but a person's, is vastly intriguing to me.

Homegrown Terrorists Fight to Take Back America in Rainbow 6: Patriots

After a two-game vacation in Vegas, Tom Clancy's elite counter-terrorism unit takes on an all-new threat threatening to destroy the U.S. government in Rainbow 6: Patriots now in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

In the latest entry in the venerable series, Team Rainbow faces off against the True Patriots, a well-organized and well-funded revolutionary group aiming to overthrow a U.S. government they feel has been rendered useless by corruption. Players will have to make "tough ethical decisions" as the story progresses, signaling a brand new direction for the franchise. Perhaps that's why they've stopped using Rainbow Six in favor of the sleeker, sexier Rainbow 6. As we touched on during our sneak peek at the game back in June, this is a more human story that goes beyond team A shooting team B to explore the consequences of taking a life.

"Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction," said David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft. "This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience."

So we're in for a deeper, more compelling single-player experience than the series has ever seen, plus some new multiplayer and co-op features that will reward teamwork and cooperation, two elements that have always been close to the heart of the series.

Rainbow 6: Patriots kicks down doors in 2013. Expect to be choked with assets and information between now and then.

Did that say new cover system that pops you out of 1st person into 3rd person? Didn't that already happen in Vegas?

I like the idea of morality in the game, but I still don't think developers will put enough time into it to make it actually matter.

the interaction icons are straight from splinter cell conviction if you ask me (as well as the engine itself probably with first person adapted in), but still, ten million boners have been popped since rainbow six (yes, including lockdown) has been my all time favorite series since i began playing fps games

-1 boner for the release date, but i'll gladly wait np for an fps that doesn't suck horribly like call of derp and battleherp (console-wise)

Little has been said about the upcoming Rainbow 6: Patriots anti-terrorism shooter since word came that three of the top developers had left the team in March, but Ubisoft's CEO tells Polygon that the game is still in development and could be headed for a next-gen release.

"The only thing I can say is that we have a good team working on it, and it's really looking good," Ubisoft chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot told Polygon. "So when it will come, it will surprise the industry."

When asked if the game will be a next generation title, Guillemot said he couldn't confirm that but "there's a good chance it can be."

Rainbow 6: Patriots first came to light last year when a video showing off the game's preliminary target gameplay footage was leaked to Kotaku. The early, internal video showed off a game that hoped to push the envelop on morality.

In the game, international counter-terrorism unit, codenamed Rainbow, is called in to New York to capture or kill a home-grown terrorist group called the "True Patriots." The group is attacking the city on behalf of the victims of economic inequality.

The leaked video showed a man being forced to hold the detonator for a bomb strapped to his body. If he releases the trigger early his family will be killed. When the player takes control of the team, they have to at some point decide whether to toss the man from a bridge or allow his bomb to detonating killing those around him. Kotaku's sources said that those decisions will heavily impact the course of the game.

Guillemot said that the decision to weave morality and tough decisions into the fabric of a shooter was the result of a lot of internal discussions.

"It's for sure something we spoke a lot about," he said. "You have to make decisions and that implies lots of ethical choices. In the decisions you make, we have to define where you can go, and there were lots of discussions on what's possible, what should be possible, what shouldn't be possible. But that's what is interesting with the concept - being able to give a choice to the person who is playing."

Rainbow 6: Patriots remains listed as a 2013 game in development for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

loved the original r6 games, planning a simultaneous assault with multiple teams was one of my favorite parts of the game. i really loved that it wasn't just a linear walk through scripted action.
