EA 2011: Mirror’s Edge 2 to be powered by Frostbite 2?

In a Game Trailers interview at E3, president of EA Games, Frank Gibeau all but confirmed that EA is planning to make Mirror’s Edge 2, adding that it will likely be powered by Battlefield 3′s Frostbite 2 engine.
“We haven’t killed Mirror’s Edge,” Gibeau told Game Trailers. “We’re actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You’ve got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that’s what we’re working on.”
When asked whether Mirror’s Edge 2 could use Frostbite 2, Gibeau said “you’ll see that combination, I’m sure.”
Gibeau has spoken publicly before about the possibilities of a Mirror’s Edge sequel. He’s previously said that a lack of multiplayer and problems with pace and difficulty held the first game back. On the matter of lessons learned from the first game, he had this to say:
“If you’re going to be bold with that kind of concept, you need to take it as far as it can go in development. You have to execute, you have to spend more time on a game to ensure it’s polished, and you need to have the depth and persistence of an online game.”
Talk of Mirror’s Edge 2 will be music to the ears of fans of the first game. Mirror’s Edge’s startling cityscapes are still some of the most memorable locations in gaming. The idea of seeing them reincarnated in the Frostbite 2 engine lights up a huge neon “YES” sign deep in my soul.
Publishers these days are understandably reticent to put out titles without multiplayer. The used game market scares them to death.
The share price drop means very little, it happens to Apple every time they announce something and people still rush to buy every little thing they make. Granted this is far from the same situation, but I would not be terribly surprised to see the WiiU sell very well.
At the same time I would not be surprised to see it bomb, because I sure as hell don't want one at this point.
"Machinarium is exclusive for the Playstation Network" is kind of funny to me... since I bought and played it a little under 2 years back now on PC. Looks exactly the same. No hate, as I imagine it will be cheaper (was and is $20 for the PC/Mac version) on PSN, and everyone really should play it.
Nintendo should just drop the home console, keep the 3ds and make marios, pokemon, and zeldas for ps3 and xbox!
have to agree about the Pokemon RPG on a console, there was an interview this year and the pokemon dev said he wanted to stick to portable. If they made one on console it would sell like vaginas in prison.
Hell with the Move, it's entirely possible to port Wii games to the PS3.
If you can rejigger the game to work on one screen, you could even port DS games to the NGP.
I've gotta side with the people who say casuals will buy regardless, even with price issues. Aurik using the iPad 2 is a perfect example. The casual user knew it was new and had a camera and that was enough to convince them to spend $500 on something they already had. As long as Nintendo can keep those customers thinking this is the cool new device, I think it'll sell fine.
One of the things that interests me is the fact that Microsoft and Sony will get to see how the WiiU does before releasing their next systems. If a lot of 3rd party developers really embrace the screen and it sells as well as the Wii did, I wonder if we'll be seeing screens on the PS4 and w/e the next Xbox is called come 2013..
