Need help upgrading schoolbag

For any local BGers out there, I'm a student/employee at the University of Minnesota. Enjoying a summer without studying, I've been piling on hours working 5-6 days a week. Since my school-year habit of being on campus for the majority of all sober hours continues, this impossible to describe unending barrage of all that college has to offer demands proper tools.

The chicks are too much. Much too much.

I've learned a few things in my life and neither of them help me here. When it comes to wooing strumpets I've relied solely on my wits, for better or for worse. I'm looking to baby step my game up and stop dragging my high school backpack around campus. I haven't the slightest idea how to do this.

BG, I need your help finding a bag. Nothing fancy, just a bag that can carry notebooks, pencils and water bottles. Bonus points if it can moonlight as a room-temperature cooler. I'm aiming for functionality and stylistically bland. Hoping that makes sense, if not, welcome to my hell.

Budget always sucks as a college student. No more than $300, aiming to pay around $100 but would be happy to pay more for something specifically awesome.

I'm a dude, 23, hair anywhere between too much and bald. No pics, I'm an everyman. Shorter than most so don't bury me.

No backpack will help you with ladies i dont even understand mentioning them in the topic as if a bag will catch them for you. However my friend had an old spongebob backpack he stole from a thrift store and girls loved it but that was mainly because he was a crazy fat drunk funny man.

Well, backpacks won't get you girls, but it's in the same way as a nice shirt won't get you a girl, but it's a good bonus. If a chick is into a clean-cut guy and the guy is walking around with a crappy ass trapper keeper or some shit, then it kind of ruins the whole image.

Actual messenger bags, the kind made by Chrome, De Martini, and PAC are both functional and fashionable. Decent ones will set you back at least a hundred, but they're properly durable, will stand up to wet weather, and are great on a bicycle. Bike shops sell them, but just look up Chrome messenger bags and you'll get the idea. I got a Chrome bag (this one actually http://www.chromebagsstore.com/bags/...ium.html?c=120) around 2 years ago to use when I was actually working as a courier, but now that I'm back at school it's just as good. Lots of room and good loading while carrying. Style around my campus tends towards the outdoorsy, so it fits in. Not exactly the kind of thing I would take if I was working in a fancy office, but then I could afford something nice in leather anyway.

Avoid cheap "messenger bags" made by MEC or REI, they are really just glorified satchels and look like ass.

Chicks always dig leather, and if you're into the retro/vintage thing, there are plenty of canvas bags on the market styled to look like something from the interwar period. They're often not that functional for carrying an entire day's worth of stuff (notbook, food, laptop, sweater, etc), but if you can go small they look alright.

And style-wise, those Birkins look like ass. I don't know whether it's simply because I see sub-$1000 bags more often and therefore are more comfortable with them, or what, but if someone offered to buy me any bag of my choice (and I couldn't resell it or otherwise transfer ownership, and I wasn't routinely surrounded by people who recognize and are impressed with such a status symbol), it wouldn't be a Birkin.
