But...it IS stupid. There's no reasonable basis to believe that a magical being created the world in 7 days 6000 years ago. There's not even a good reason to believe that said magical being set the universe in motion with the big bang. It's important to be open minded, but not so open minded that your brain falls out. When you push the "both sides!" nonsense, you're making the assumption that both arguments are equally valid, which they aren't.

this is why i choose an agnostic belief system, while i fully stand behind evolution, and can provide samples as to why evolution is correct, i cannot, in my mind anyways, understand why life started in the first place

but i dont push my beliefs on others, and i ask that others dont push theirs on me

Pascal's wager assumes the christian god doesn't know what you're doing, and won't fry you for being an oportunistic little prick.

This is why the OP has a problem. He thinks the other side is "stupid", succumbing to the very thing he is getting angry at (people thinking evolution is dumb).
Well yeah, we are talking about hypothetical situations here. Majority of people do not research anything before forming opinions and the majority of people are close-minded on some subjects. All we can do is try to live the 'correct' way ourselves.

And frankly, no matter how much I research any subject at the end of the day I can still end up being wrong. I'd rather just not make "being wrong" that huge of a deal.

I had actually formed a similar idea on my own belief a long time ago. Didn't realize there was actually a name for it.

That is until I finally gave up when the evidence really became just overwhelming, and my rational side really started to form.

The premise of one's beliefs will ultimately determine how a person rationalizes it.

I'm open-minded to the point where I can respect people's reasons for believing in god, but not to the degree of arrogance and ignorance as given by the OP. When your dumb ass can't formulate rational thought on simple things like race, sexual preference, abortions, etc. and you use religion as a tool to hate/exclude/excommunicate/divide just cause "god said so" then I have no patience for you.

Okay. For which god, though? There's many thousands of gods. Even for Christianity alone, there's hundreds of sects and interpretations that contradict each other. How can you believe all of them at once? How do you determine which is the right one? What if you spend your whole life worshiping Yahweh, only to find out that Odin's gonna kick your ass off the Yggdrasil? You can certainly have faith that the one you've chosen is right...but what if you're wrong? Best to believe in all of them, just in case.

Each religion has mutually exclusive truth claims. If you believe in absolute truth, then only one of them can be true. For the most part, besides the minor details, the different sects of Christianity believe the same thing. I will also say there are a lot of "Christian" churches and sects that are not really Christian.

Pascal's wager, man. What if the Greeks were right? It'd be better to believe it, just to be sure. Cause if you're wrong, hoooo boy. Zeus will have sex with his sister again. Or something.

It's dismissing the fact that with most monotheistic religions, you have to believe that your religion is absolute truth. Christianity has one true god. If you don't believe in absolute truth, then you aren't christian. At least I'm not certain of any particular christian sects that allow for polytheism. Again, what if your belief of that absolute truth is absolutely wrong, and the Muslims got it right?
