Fixed! Although I still say that any man should tear up at that part. It wasn't clannad train ride levels of baww though.

Just watched The Princess and the Pilot (or is it called Recollections of a Certain Pilot?) and thought it was really good. Amazing animation, a nice story with a few cliche points that aren't used too seriously, characters are a bit bland but easy to like, great action and a satisfying ending.

It's shorter than I would've liked, and I wanted a bit more of an epilogue but I'm probably just being greedy.

Everything Elcura said about The Princess and the Pilot is spot on. In my case, I thought it was one of the most amazing anime I watched over the last few years. It's actually the first time since Break Blade (completely different style/genre) that I genuinely enjoy every aspect of a story (characters, settings, writing, plot). Of course, someone who is looking for shonen action, fanservice, angsty teenagers or flat chest jokes might be let down, but if you want a simple and beautiful story, it's definitively a nice place to start.








Also, this show is totally what Last Exile 2 should have been.

Edit: Picked up Princess and the Pilot, the romance is really subtle, but I guess that's the draw of most of these stories, down to the bittersweet ending.

It's beyond cliche'd, but it's still very enjoyable, more so than any other anime movies I've seen of late.

In retrospect, I would rather call it simple than cliche to avoid the pejorative undertone. If every series/movie could have this kind of writing, I would be much happier.
