No words. Just massive self-loathing for putting myself through this. It's Western anime puke, both narratively and visually. Nothing was ever totally cohesive or logical, and whenever it attempted to make the audience care, it failed. The characters are a mess, the setting is a mess, and the story is a mess. There is very little to like about this, other than the morbid curiosity in seeing a disaster in motion.

I can't believe this has a crazy dedicate Japanese fan base. at least the fanart is pretty great.

If you watch it without sound it's OK. Pretty much what I expected overall though. The only thing I watched it for was Monty Oum doing the animation.

Pretty much this. Anyone who hyped it up to be anything more is kind of missing the point, as much as the series writers want to make it engaging. Aside from the fights, trailers, and music (arguable I guess but I like it) it's just a matter of how high/low your standards are.

So there's a live action version of "The Secret World of Arrietty" that I had no idea existed. It's a British version called "The Borrowers" starring Stephen Fry, Christopher Eccleston and one of those guys from the TV show "Misfits". Its actually pretty good and follows the anime movie pretty closely (albeit with some plot changes to make it more live-action friendly).

Seriously? I had no idea. That's rad, I just assumed the anime came first without really giving it much thought lol. I love Stephen Fry too, but he was suuuuuuch a douche in the movie haha

I'm British, and over here it's a childrens classic, I doubt you could find a single person who hasn't had it read to them as a kid, watched the tv series, seen the films or is generally unaware of it. Think harry potter levels of known.
I guess as a non-brit you get a pass, it just made me laugh pretty hard

Being Canadian, I try to think we're a part of the Monarchy. But yeah, for all I know it may have made its way to our shores and I just happened to miss it in my upbringing. My head was pretty much glued to my videogames when I was younger lol

Edit: For the record, I'm talking about the 2011 version, not the 1997 version I feel like I may have seen when I was younger

Many years later, I finally sat down and watched TTGL. I literally marathoned the entire series from beginning to end because I couldn't stop. Can't believe I was missing this in my life, easily one of my most favorite animes of all time. I saw there were two movies. Are they any good or are they the usual post-series movie milking?

They're just recaps of the series, with a few extended battle scenes and an extended ending. Worth watching if you're bored.
