I mean, production timeline puts this in covid, so that's no doubt a starting point. Mercenary as the anime world is, I also wouldn't rule out the initial studio getting a better offer for another show and thus dropped it.

That said, it doesn't really change my stance that AS hates anime, and not putting the proper budget toward things goes hand in hand with that. Something like this can't get their stoner flash animation treatment and there's really no excuse for needing 4 years for not even 2 hours of content.

I couldn't hold it and checked out Ranma

It's really good if you were a fan of the original.

The colours are so vibrant. The characters retain their classic look but it looks so much better/cuter. Things are smoothed out.
The fighting choreography has been improved.
It's also very scott pilgrim like in terms of presentation (specifically the subtitles are expressive)
It's censored down in that any nudity is presented in the form of barbie doll but that isn't that bad. It's just missing the nipples where any boobs are shown. Even in the orginal the nipples weren't exactly detailed so I don't feel like we're missing much. In any case if I was horny I'd go elsewhere, both in original and new. I guess one point of contention might be that in the original back then there was less easily ....... accessible materal lol but times has passed.
There's also less groping/touching but I can only assume this is because of the subject of today.

Been watching the new season of Blue Exorcist. Realized it dropped, then realized I hadn't finished the Kyoto Arc.

Toonami just picked up Blue Exorcist again. They are starting it from the beginning but plan to air all seasons. It was on there a long time ago and I remember I didn't really like it. Maybe I will give it a second look once it catches up to where I stopped watching.

It grew on me, especially the opening and ending themes. But it was one of those series where I was going through a particularly rough patch (death in the family) and that was one of those series that was just easy to watch in its simplicity. So it holds a special place for me due to that.

Just came back from the Overlord movie

This covers light novels volume 12 and 13, taking place between Season 4 eps 7 and 8 - at the beginning of ep 8 the events of the film are mentioned briefly
It's a lot more talking than action for the near 2.5 hours runtime though this not too unexpected of Overlord. However for the major bits of action a lot of it happens offscreen and/or is zoomed out or summarised as explosions like a zoomed out Dragon Ball fight
A lot of the essence of the anime is missing. For example, Ains hardly talks/thinks internally, which makes up for a portion of the comedy of the anime series in general
Additionally, most of the usual cast don't show up and part of the fun, for me at least, is seeing the main characters interact
Like nearly anything that happens in Overlord the main characters orchestrate everything; this was hardly seen in like a flashback or behind the scenes thing in the movie compared to the anime series
There are some brutal bits that I sort of understand why it's not aired as an anime, but at the same time it wasn't all that bad or out of the ordinary compared to the anime, so it's a bit confusing why why it was chosen to be missed

As an Overlord enjoyer I did enjoy it ultimately, action isn't what Overlord is about but there's a reason why it's sometimes nicknamed as anime: the flex - which there is some of here but not enough. Given that this is a movie release I was expecting the usual big(ger) budget plays to come in, like more action, more flashy, or doubling down on the essences of Overlord I described above.

At the same time though, for an anime movie to rarely show most of its main/core cast was quite refreshing. I do dislike the movies where especially if there's multiple main/core characters, the movie has to make sure they do their thing. It's nice to not see it here.

..Huh, thanks for the reminder. I need to get back to Overlord.

But before that I need to watch OP2 again.

Thanks for this info. I was thinking about checking it out, I was/am a huge fan of the original back in the day. As to subject of today: I guess we'll see how they handle Happosai

I do not think we'll get to Happosai this season/cour. But I'll throw my predictions in, I reckon he'll be toned down significantly. I do look forward to see how he'll be retooled and how it'll be adapted to modern audiences.

I am looking forward to the next episode or 2 if they don't wrap it up in one though. It'll be Ranma's first real significant fight, but without physical body contact. Tools only.

I would also complain about the OST. There's nothing good with it, it works, but just not memorable or impacting at all.

Kodachi though, I thought the original VA returned to voice her, but it's someone else. I cannot believe how well she is nailing it, she sounds just like the original and if I didn't tell you, you'd think it was the original too.

Dandadan ep7 hit hard, the animation improved a lot from the Manga on this ep.

Yeah, Dan da Dan has been great so far.

People already mentioned it in here, but Ranma 1/2 has been great as well. I don't know if it's just the nostalgia from reading the manga back in high school, but it's definitely one of the more enjoyable animes I've seen in a while. I never watched the OG anime and have only read through the manga, so it's nice to see it all animated. The dub is really good too and am preferring to watch it that way so far.

This week's Ranma episode was alright.

    - No more weird colour changes during moments of intense fighting for this ep
    - As expected they wrapped up the fight in the episode, but a few significant moments happened off screen, including the final blow (the manga had a full page dedicated to it). This was an odd direction to go I thought, even the OG anime animated this
-Shampoo is next followed by Cologne. If this is indeed a 12 episode cour, then I think this lead us nicely into the Ranma vs Ryoga showdown in their mini training story but ... (see below)
    - 2 more major characters remaining would be Mousse and Happosai. I cannot tell what might happen here. Happosai being introduced would be really major though. Mousse is integral to Shampoo and Cologne. I do feel they MUST get everyone out and introduced/established prior to the season ending as once it's completed then the show can really get underway when Season floats in, but I cannot help but feel they need a bit of an action to end the season which would be the next major fight. Time will tell, I am excited to see how they plan to do it
    - Ukyo (the last of the harem) appears a good bit after the core characters are introduced so we don't need to think about her too much

    23/11/2024 Ranma

    It's NOT the Shampoo arc!

I had to look it up and on Reddit someone explained:

It's a bit complicated, but the skating arc went unaired for the '89 anime due to an ongoing IRL kidnapping/murder case in Japan. After the anime was cancelled, it got rebooted as Nettohen (season 2+ outside of Japan) and the skating arc episodes were then aired as part of it. The intended order as seen in the manga is skating arc -> Shampoo.
It's been a good 10 years since I read the manga so I forgot. I also didn't know about this, so this is new to me.

I enjoyed this episode. The new animations are really refreshing and on some bits really funny with the extra creative animations they decided to put in (talking about THE kiss scene)
This remake series enhances the sexual tension between Ranma and Akane, it's actually a lot better and enjoyable

Saw it at Harkins. Same thing as Demon Slayer. Showed recap episode of season 1 with new season 2 stuff.
