So if were going down the road of making Turn A MGs can we also go back to making G Gundam MGs. I'd Really like Noble Gundam to get a MG with the same inner frame that the other G Gundam MGs got.

EP7 was super good. Having just marathoned 1-6 to catch the GF up on the series following it right up with 7 was amazing. I'm very, very happy with how it was done. As far as space magic, it's Gundam, there's gonna be space magic. I think the problem is it falls in between levels of space magic. It's below Gurren Lagann throwing galaxies and shit around as weapons (which we all just lol at) and slightly above normal Gundam space magic (except 00), so being in between it may feel a bit out of place and cheesy.

    So on Episode 7

    Spoiler: show
Really loved it obviously, tons of mechs all over the place, was kind of hoping that Ra Calium was gonna sortie that Re-GZ on board. Maybe I didn't notice the passing of time as much but the final fight with Char Frontal felt kind of short considering how large and rigged out the mech was. The Gundam space magic dind't bother me too much, if Amuro can push back Axis with some psychoframes, Unicorn going god mode being made entirely of them was fine, at least they didn't overdo it Gundam Seed style and it was after everything else was resolved. All this series did was make me want more UC stuff though, what happens to them now? Why don't we see Psycoframes onward in later UC? Did the new policies leave them vulnerable to attacks from Jupiter Empire, which devolved into leaving them open to creating the Zanscare Empire decades later? I NEED TO KNOW.

I actually felt kind of bad for Riddhe considering he was shit on for so long before this and even after Marida's death everyone just kind of forgave him and wanted him back. Was nice to see him redeemed a bit. And of course the closure that Amuro and Char are really really dead and that Amuro isn't living in some secret space resort somewhere avoiding battle, people have been harping on this since CCA finished thinking there was a possibility even when the novel confirmed they were dead(albeit its abit different in some aspects to the anime).

Also apparently they are rereleasing the Char's Counterattack OST in June with some new tracks and most likely all the previous tracks in better sound quality, can't wait.

Finally clearing up Char and Amuro's fates after almost 30 years was one of the things I was really happy with (admittedly I haven't been a Gundam fan that long, but still). Nice to have some closure on that and to have the end of the debate.

Well I don't think anyone here would be super suprised when they announce Hathaway's Flash in a year or two. Actually, if they do springboard wholeheartedly into the second century of U.C., we could probably look back retrospectively and point to Unicorn as why. There's a ton of interesting stories to tell (and an injustice to make right with F91), and there's an audience both new and old who want to see what's largely been confined to print mediums for two decades (or less... but yeah).

I'm too lazy to do (yet another) brief overview of what happens between U.C. 0100-0153, but I guess we can do that later if no one wants to go back and dig through my ramblings.

It's probably something that they could fit into a single 25-episode season (maybe 26). It'd be interesting to see (in terms of an animated adaption breathing life into it) what the Mars Zeon managed to do with their share of M'Quve's resource extraction efforts from the OYW (I kinda thought the manga and old video game were sorta barebones on this front). The Sleeves basically marked the end of the shares that remained in the Earth Sphere (with suppliments from various operations at Axis, Palau, etc.). I wonder if they'd stick with the manga version that had few of those RF, Geara Doga-based OYW-era MS, or the video game version which had RF versions for everything (minus the Gyan). Either way, it'd fall into a three-arc plot probably: attack on the Strategic Naval Research Institute (S.N.R.I.) facility/testing field and jacking the F90-2; the journey to Mars and other stuff; the battle against the Mars Zeon and the two F90s being wrecked. Sprinkle in some world building and character development (maybe even some Mars Zeon lamenting the way things turned out in Unicorn!) and we've got a series.

F91 is a bit more difficult to peg. The movie was at best a mere third of what was held to have happened (think of it as invasion and occupation, the founding of Cosmo Babylonia, Iron Mask's death (place a splintering of political and military support between Berah Ronah and Meitzer Ronah some time after this) - Berah decides to step up two years later and, with her supporters (chief among which is Zabine Chareux) and pro-Federation elements, oppose Meitzer Ronah and his supporters (the majority of which are the aristoracy and business people.. plus anti-Federation activists) - the Meitzer Faction is defeated, the government is bankrupt, and Berah brings the Frontier Side back into the Federation's fold.) These events essentially take place first in 0123 (animated events of F91), then 0125 (CB Civil War), and 0128 (CB Collapses - Berah, Seabook, etc. fake their deaths in the turmoil). From there it's another 5 year gap until Crossbone. So it's definitely problematic in terms of pacing. You'd probably figure that characters like Birgit and Annamarie would probably not be killed so quickly (if at all).. it could be any length, plausibly. lol

F91's novel events actually bring up the point a number of people have held against the animated adaption of Unicorn: time constraints forced a number of really great segments of character development (Loni Garvey is arguably the greatest victim of this) or world-building porn (Republic of Zeon involvement) to be cut or altered dramatically. At the same time it improved greatly upon the finale. I'll try and contain my spaghetti until more of the thread regulars have seen it though. One thing that the OVA staff deserves credit for, is making the chat Mineva had with the diner owner outside of Torrington back in Episode 4 a really poignant thing (whereas it was a little more mundane in the novels; we weren't treated to the picture of his presumably war-dead wife and son in the family photo, for example). I don't know if the Federation Charter will take a direct or more subtle role in how it influences the UC going forward.. one would imagine it posing a problem of legitimacy though. Regardless, the foundation is there, let's see what they build on it.

I'm very much not versed in the gundam universe, so if anyone can answer my question, that would be delightful.

    Spoiler: show
At the end of the movie when Frontal died, I thought it was Char and Lalah that Frontal was joining spiritually? I say this because I thought Frontal was merely a clone of Char and that it was the original that was whisking him away. Am I wrong? Was it Amuro?

And if so, was there ever an exact moment that people thought Char and Amuro died? Like, a specific event I mean.

Edit: Just rewatched that moment in the movie. Was Amuro the voice who said "are you sure?" as their spirits flew away? It's mega-confusing when they show Char's white glove and red sleeve on Frontal's shoulder right before his MS starts to erode away

Yes, it was Char and Lalah who show up and place their hands on Full Frontal's shoulders. Amuro only has the one line, when his, Lalah's, and Char's spirits fly off.

The event where Char and Amuro vanished was the Axis Shock, but their fate was open to interpretation. It's been a few years and I don't have a copy with me at the moment, but if I remember correctly, Amuro uses the Nu Gundam to push back Axis, the psychoframes start to glow, then the Axis Shock occurs, pushing Axis away, and then the movie ends. It wasn't clear if they died, warped away, became something else, were transported to the Build Fighters universe, etc. Based on Episode 7, I understand it to mean that they attained full Newtype Enlightenment and are still alive, but not in the sense that we'd consider them alive.

Pretty much this, what lead to the speculation is that most documentation released after CCA listed them both as MIA, and when Unicorn finally touches on the subject when Full Frontal and Banagher finally meet(iirc) he mentions how when they opened the Nu Gundam cockpit after the Axis Shock it was empty, so a few assumed they could have just ejected afterwards and that Char became Full Frontal because he can't ever leave well enough alone.

It doesn't help that Tomino proved he was fully comfortable with leaving main characters in extremely questionable states of alive-or-dead for some period of years with Char's fate in Zeta. It's just nice to see it cleared up, as much as we always want some crazy story about how Amuro hid away in an asteroid for years planning some ridiculous shit or he was actually Unicorn the whoooole time

Kamille is Tominos greatest injustice in terms of what happens at a shows conclusion. You gotta soldier through ZZ to get a happy ending for him which is another form of torture

Only until the Bright v. Chicken-tier stuff goes away. After that, you could say you almost long for those happy, slapstick halcyon days..

That's a lot of heavy stuff. But thanks for the clarification. I've tried to wiki the Gundam storyline, but it seems very... in depth for a lack of better words. I feel it'd be a lot easier to follow if I actually invested the time for all the series.

Gundam Wiki is full of AUTISM and retardation; in short it's pretty terrible beyond being a depository for images. Many portions are poorly ripped from MAHQ.net and Mecha Talk, and other portions are unsourced and poorly translated (rife with errors in grammar, punctuation, etc.). Worse, as many (such as myself) will attest regarding their efforts to fix that trove of shit, is that it's impossible with the morons in place reverting every correction made (at one point there was a bunch of sperging in the face of evidence proving otherwise from a member of the staff over Uso Evin's ancestry and being related to Char Aznable through his mother). At least the days of fucking fanfiction/headcanon stuff seem to be behind it.

But anyway, yeah you'd probably be better off just watching things (or at the least use the per-episode summaries on MAHQ).

Also why aren't those SEED DVDs stored in a burnt out trashcan? That's hazardous, leaving them there like that.

Excel Saga was the first anime dvds I ever bought outside of the old DBZ VHS tapes, which I still own. As for SEED I've had those compilation movies since they've been released and I rather not get rid of them. I still want the SEED Destiny compilation movies but good luck finding them cheap.

Speaking of the ADV Excel Saga dvds they always had something funny included with the releases
