When this story broke the first article I saw said the car in question had been firing gun shots, which it certainly sounds like in the first video, and which is mentioned by the guy filming.

This, 9 out of 10 times if your not a dick to them the second they approach you, and actually do what's requested your going to be fine. I work with enough cops to know some are douches, but the vast majority are pretty chill and if you don't act like an asshat, they will treat you with respect. Act like an asshat though and they'll look for any excuse to ticket/arrest/potentially taze you since it's now bad form to give an asshat a good crack to the back with a baton.

I understand what you are saying, but it's kind of hard to not react with the fight or flight instinct when someone starts barking orders at you with a gun in your face. I am not a confrontational person and yes there are WAY more good cops than adrenaline/superiority complex cops. But I don't care which side of the line you are on, your energy will mirror their energy to a degree. Cops are jaded because they constantly deal with the worst in human behavior. Because of that, they (glaring generalization here) do something like point a gun in your face and scream at you when a simple "please leave this area" would have sufficed. The civilians will respond in kind just like the cops will.

Edit: Change the thread title! Miami stuff suggests plain and boring stuff as opposed to a huge story of police shooting a guy...

Can you really blame the police for what they did in the 2nd video? After all, the guy's name was Benoit.

Narces Benoit says he just happened to be in the area driving with his girlfriend when police fatally shot an erratic driver early Memorial Day morning.

They were clearly just trying to protect the girlfriend and any possible children in the car.

Were I in that situation, I think I'd be upset if a cop pointed a gun at my face just to "ask" me to leave the area/stay, but my fear would keep that anger in check. Dude's pointing a fucking gun at your face. Maybe later I'd bitch about it, but not right there to the officer's face.

That being said, I can understand why they'd go all Hulk about it. They don't know who fired shots, all they know is that if that guy in the car wasn't dead before, he is now.

^ Pretty much this. My fight or flight is telling me to leave first and bitch about my treatment later. Cops go through enough shit day in and day out; they don't need the added drama of someone deciding at that exact moment to get their balls up and start challenging authority because they feel like it.

Shit, I know guys that get pulled over for speeding and immediately start yelling at the cop. I mean, seriously? There's defensive, and then there's just fucking stupid. Most people that get lit up are stupid as hell.

If they were involved in a shooting, they are going to have there guns out. If they haven't found or suspect another shooter is out, guns will be in the drawn position and pointed. You got cops in a stressful situation along with a bunch of punks hoping for there 15 minutes of fame by videotaping a crime scene hoping a pig gets roasted for shooting someone, despite not knowing what exactly is going on.

Also note, if you call 911 and your a dick to the dispatcher or the call taker.... officers on the street know about it, and can get them pissed off before they even show up.

2nd video looked fine to me.... your actively video taping a shooting, right behind police officers.

I don't see how this excuses them running after people clearing the scene as ordered and confiscating/destroying what they thought was the video evidence at gunpoint.
