    Enlistment in AF. (Military)

So I might go into a town about 15-20 miles away just to see a recruiter. The thing is I am 100% civillian, don't know what to ask, well maybe so..but other than that I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to get a good contract going. Here are the things I want to be and things i've done to prepair. I do have a highschool diploma and had a 2.8gpa through most of the year. I did smoke pot but not like Cheech and Chong would.

Something in the computer career or mechanic area. Anything mechanic or computer will do for me. I've been weight lifting for about two years and I dunno what my body fat is at but i'm weighing in at 193-4 in the morning. I use to weight 280 pounds in school and have had a job at a grocery store for almost 8 years now, does this count at all somewhere and how much will they give a sh**? My height is 6" 3' 194lb. My push ups are decent I can do 20 in a row rest for two min and do it again with no problem.

For my weight lifting it goes as follows.

Su - Chest - Incline and decline and flat bench. 4-6 reps max OT training (google it)
Mo - Biceps - You get the jist of it now? 4-6 curls 4-6 incline\decline and chest flys.
Tu - Triceps - Skull crusher, reverse fly,
    We - Shoulders
    Th - Back
    Fri - cardio 2mi jog/run
Sat - rest one day or two. I hear it can take up to 9 days for muscle to heal? So basically everything is repeat of 4-6 reps max OT training. I do no steroids cause the military frowns on that even tho I bet they still use them sometimes imo. So let me summerize what i've gained to show the recruiter maybe.

1.Weightlifting for 2-3 years and cardio
    2. Lost a ton of weight via running and allllot of biking.
3.Have a HS diploma and decent enough gpa.
4.Very good with my job and been working for 8 years
5.Computer knowledge is where I can absorb knowledge the fastest.

    6.Wasn't the greatest in math\english
7.Smoke off and on. (social smoker)
8.Slow learner when stressed by people easyly. (its gotten way better since HS but still a problem)

Go mess with someone else please. I require helpful and insightful knowledge to help me. I could care less about anti-pot smokers thoughts or anything else that would be disgraceful in this post. Thanks. As for pot smoking I haven't done it since highschool. Thanks.

From what I've understood about physical ability and military enlistment, being big and stacked isn't as good as being lean with longer endurance capabilities. Here's a link to the AF's fitness program, including score cards and base requirements: http://www.afpc.af.mil/affitnessprogram/index.asp

Looks like in-service personnel get tested on a timed 1.5 mile run, pushups, situps, and a body composition (some kind of body-waist ratio). If you want to be gung-ho, train yourself to the USMC or Army's fitness standards tested on 3 mile runs, situps, pushups, and chinups. The focus seems to be much more on endurence and general body strength, not lifting ability, so focus on that. However, I would say you're in good shape providing you do some good running as well (6+ mi).

Hold off on smoking for a few weeks before recruiting, I'm sure you'll do fine. Aircraft mechanical is a pretty cool field. I've got a friend who went the private-sector route and he's got a great job here in Canada working on military and commercial aircraft.

it sounds like you aren't going anywhere in life, if you've been working in a grocery store. the military is probably a really good solution for you. you can get training, build up your resume, and you get a metric fuckton of money during your overseas time. a couple of my friends who were listless and didn't know what to do joined the army and it was a good experience for them. one of them is out of his mind with PTSD from iraq though.

there are a couple of military guys on these forums, hopefully they'll pop in and talk to you about it. there was a thread made by the pedophile earlier this year, I'll go find it for you.

edit: found it, good info here: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/102...ice?highlight=

So basically are you saying you're a burn out in life and have no other options than joining the Military? If so re-think your life, they're making it harder for your types to get in. Now, if you were academically inclined as well as physically fit it'd be no problem. To go into computers, you have to be semi-decent in the math field, most likely above average. Seriously, DO NOT make this decision because you feel like you have no other choice, 9 times out of 10 it never ends well. I know of three people that did this and killed themselves within 5 years of leaving the Military, PTSD and all...
Also how do you not lift for your lower body? Sounds like you're pretty top heavy to me.
    Just my honest opinion.

P.S. I think the smoking pot eliminates you as well, doing hair tests now. If I recall correctly.
P.P.S. How are you going to survive Basic Training, if you don't adjust well under pressure? Are you sure you've actually thought this out?

This. I can do about 50-55 before I mentally give rather than physically.

Tyven's right, bring those push ups to 40+ in one minute, get your run time down to 1.5miles in under 11 mins, and do 58 situps in a minute, and make sure your waist doesn't measure over 40'' 's and your good.

Thing is. What are you gonna do in the air force???

Here's what your gonna do when you go into the recruiter:

He's gonna ask you if you've ever smoked weed. your going to say no.

He's going to repeat himself, and your going to say no.

Your going to go to MEP'S (military entrance processing station), and their going to put you in a room or a cubicle, and someone you've never seen before is going to come in and ask you if things are good, did you get the job you want, how's your mom and dad feel, did you ever smoke pot?

    FUCKING TELL THEM NO.

10 minutes later, same cubicle, or maybe they moved you to a small private office, different person is going to come in, give you the same "i'm curious about your feelings" shit then their gonna ask you if you've smoked weed.

    FUCKING TELL THEM NO.

This process will litterly, and i'm not fucking joking, repeat it's self 3-6 more times, with different people and asking you in different ways.

FUCKING TELL THEM NO you have never smoked pot, snorted anything, or injected shit.

SEE...if you start off in a lie, they can't bust you until you let slip that you "might have filled in something wrong and that you've ""tried"" it once or twice" that's the biggest thing their concerned with, are you going to fucking lie. If you do, and you stick to it, and you've never been invovled in any legal or documented account involving marijuana, then just
    FUCKING TELL THEM NO.

This is the advice my recuriter gave me, it's how he had so many positive enlistments under his belt. /shrug

    Also go EOD.

I did 6 years in the Air Force so maybe i can give a little advice.

Endurance is something you want to work on most, try to do atleast 40 pushups easily 40 sit ups easily, and do 3 sets of pull ups easily also try and get up to running 3 miles easily. The fitness routine for the Air Force is less then that for men but if you can do this much then life will be a lot easier for you.

If you have your high school diploma then that is all that matters, they wont care what your GPA was. You will take an ASVAB at the meps station, that is the score that they will go off of when determining what jobs you qualify for.
Study the jobs you want, in great detail, dont go in blind. If you do this then your screwed. Look for up to atleast 3 different jobs you want as the ones you may be going for might be full.
They do a full battery of tests, urine, blood, have you walk on your knees and such, so stop smoking and dont get tested until your system is clean. They will make you pee in a cup with 6 other guys in a line 3 feet away from the urinals with some guy watching you, if you get stage fright easily then make sure you drink a lot and dont take a piss the entire day until that is done.

If you get stressed easily and your learning abilities are impaired then figure something else out or you may end up killing yourself in basic training let alone Tech school.

Also dont think your recruiter gives you all the details there will be a few surprises you may not like when you reach basic. And for the love of god dont be the idiot that confesses everything at basic training. Whatever you dont tell your recruiter you never mention again.

When i joined a little over a year ago I was listed at 6'1" and the max weight for me was 204 lbs. It is prolly in the 207-213 range for 6'3". This is just the requirement for joining, once you are in you can go over that weight limit. As far as the pot is concerned, the most important things are the last time you have done it and how many times in your life you have done it. Honestly, they will threaten you that they will find out this stuff anyway, but they never will unless you fail the drug test.

For your fitness stuff, the Air Force is more focused on being in cardio shape as opposed to strength, but both are important. I saw a huge guy that worked out all the time get kicked out because his chest and stomach got to big and he failed his PT tests because he couldn't pass the waist measurement.

    http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airfo...s/a/afjobs.htm
That is a pretty good listing for the jobs in the Air Force. Its a little outdated but still decent.

Can you really do the shit he wants to do with a 2.8. I know it somewhat depends on the Asvab but....

I'll echo the sentiment about endurance. When I first joined, running kicked my ass for a good couple of weeks. But the military isn't really all that hard. Nothing wrong with going to a recruiter and asking a ton of questions, look at the other branches, too, get all the info you can.

My HS GPA was sub-2.8 and I got D's in Physics, and I qualified for the Navy's nuclear-field training because of my ASVAB score. Spent six years as a 'nuke' and advanced fairly quickly, leaving as an E-6 with good evaluations and an honorable discharge.

GPA really doesn't mean anything when it comes to the military.

Neither GPA nor IQ, really. I mean the movie Forrest Gump takes some poetic license but you can't be pretty much as dumb as a box of rocks and still make it. We had at least three people in my platoon who could speak less words of English than I've used in this post, and they made it through fine.

Which granted, does not mean you're dumb, but they couldn't understand anything that the DS were saying to them and they were fine, so I'd guess that even functionally retarded people like the people who post on the Official Forums could spend some time in the military. Might even make them less whiny babies.

Be prepared for a 6+ month wait before you can even get into the Air Force. Even longer depending on what MOS you pick (and you might not even get the one you want). Joining is something you must completely devote your life to - not just because you're bored. Recruiters can be hit & miss. Some of them can be really cool and others just want to get you in ASAP. If you're still uncertain about what branch you want to join (and based on your gpa) - the Army takes pretty much anyone.

Stopped reading somewhere around here. You're going to score about a 20 on the ASVAB.

One thing I havent seen in the thread yet is, whatever benefits you want; going to college money or whatever get it in WRITING so nothing can ever be denied.
