    recurring laptop soundcard glitch.

As the topic says I have had this glitch in the sound card of my laptop (make that both laptops) for a while now. What basically happens is that after about an hour there will be intermittent glitches while playing back audio (including audio from videos) that will freeze the system for about one second and then go back to normal. If lets say I am using winamp and i pause it for ten secondsish everything goes back to normal for about 5 minutes. The glitch sounds like the sound is going into a reverb like sound which I can only equate to how some of the transformers sounded in transformers the movie (the ones that didnt talk) - reverb + serious hardcore repetition.

In doing some research I think that my system is reverting to pio instead of dma mode for audio playback...but...I cannot find a link to fix this problem that pertains to win7. All of these things pertain to xp, 2000, etc. This prob drives me nuts when Im trying to draw/paint etc and this crap happens. If its any easier if I turn up the audio higher then about 7 bars it will get crappy faster. But it happens even at lower bars after a while.

    specs:

    Platform : Intel Calpella
    Mainboard : FUJITSU FJNB20E
    Chipset : Intel HM55
    Processor : Intel Core i5 @ 2266MHz
    Physical Memory : 4096MB (2 x 2048 DDR3-SDRAM )
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 310M
    Hard Disk : Western Digital WD5000BEVT-16ZAT0 (500GB)
    DVD-Rom Drive : TEAC DV-W28S-V
Monitor Type : Nvidia Defaul - 14 inches
Network Card : Atheros Communications AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter
Network Card : Broadcom NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe
Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition Media Center 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    DirectX : Version 11.00

I cant get an exact fix on wtf my soundcard is. Under device manager I have both an nvidia source listed as well as realtek ALC269 (ver 6.0.2.5911)

and pcwizard lists this (go figure)

Device Audio : Fujitsu 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio
Device Audio : Fujitsu High Definition Audio Controller
Audio Playback : Speakers (Realtek High Definiti
Audio Playback : Microsoft Sound Mapper

    any input is greatly appreciated.

Reinstall all of your sound drivers.

Ill try that tonight. I did a microsoft fix last night and have yet to test it out. Basically turn off audio enhancements. I uninstalled SC drivers last night and reinstalled but still had problem...but then again I am not sure that it uninstalled all the drivers. Ill come back with more feedback after I dl the link above.

Don't rely on Microsoft Update drivers; they are good for certain drivers but in this case they are hosing you and probably giving you the incorrect files.

Drill down on the link I provided, download the exact drivers you need, uninstall the previous ones, and do a clean install with the files provided by Fujitsu.

if the driver has any sort of power saving feature, uncheck it. I've found this causes a lot of pops, etc in laptop soundcards.

I didnt do any microsoft update things I simply looked up a possible solution in their database. The drivers that I currently have installed are those that are available for dl. I am still going to uninstall and reinstall them though after doing a run through of about an hour or two of last nights fix. My only other thought is that the mobo is poorly designed with the vidcard/soundcard/everything that overheats in the same area and its pissing off the sound card when it gets too hot...but thats only a thought.

This. Especially in video & network cards too.

I know this is a long shot, but you've brought overheating into the picture. Has the laptop randomly shut off due to overheating? Does this happen when you're listening to music or when the sound problem is occurring?

Yesterday I uninstalled the drivers but didnt delete the driver files. Sound glitch still occurred although not as much. Then last night I uninstalled drivers and driver files. Ended up that win7 auto installed microsoft drivers after reboot (other ones were realtek)...and so far no glitches. Very odd but still going to do some heavy music jamming to make sure.

Well fuckit if I know now...happened again but after I turned the sound off via stopping winamp I noticed that the comp is still freezing at intervals for about a second and then going back to normal. I am thinking that there is some asshole process that is eating up system resources like mad every hour or so. (Checked in task manager to see performance for that)...bah now I am thinking either asshole process or overheating. I doubt its overheating though cause system doesnt shut off or totally freeze to the point of reboot. Plus I have a nasty good laptop cooler under my lappy...

Ok turns out it seems to not be any of the above Using event viewer I get the glitche every time that this happens:

Dhcp has received network hint 16B6962716 for the Network Card with the network address 0xB482FE8C7C01

    Microsoft-Windows-DHCP Client Events/Admin
    Dhcp-Client
    50067
    Information
    LOCAL SERVICE
    NetworkHintReceived
    Address Configuration State Event

been researching for the past hourish to see how to fix this and to no avail...im either typing in the wrong keywords or am just too newb to understand what to do in this instance. Should I disable the LAN (broadcom) if I am strictly using the wifi (atheros)? Or is it a matter of fecking with the ip address to make it static or what ?
