Crytek Yanks Crysis 2 from Steam, and only Steam

As of today you can no longer by Crysis 2 from Steam.

    http://www.ea.com/crysis-2/pc-download

But for some reason it's still available on a lot of other DD services. If I had to guess why it's that the contracts weren't signed at the same time so the terms will expire on different days.

This bodes ill for future EA PC releases being on anything other than Origin for the foreseeable future, in order of how much you should care:

    Battlefield 3
    Mass Effect 3
    uh..
    hmm
    err
    Dragon Age 2 DLC? :D
    eh...

Sucks for EA then since they're not getting my money. My PC gaming habits live and end with the Steam sales.

I don't blame them for trying to be like Blizzard and only sell their titles (eventually) exclusively on their own platform.

Same here, the only EA games I own were bought exclusively on Steam. I guess they dont need my money.

EA is infamous for fire-sale-ing their titles. Too bad their new "meh" fps is of such little interest I don't care if they pull it. The only way I will care about their stance is if ME3 does not eventually hit <$30 and still connect to the same save games...

Origin sales only EA games while Steam sales all. It's not like we're tsundere for you or nothing, EA.

I personally do not like the new platform, I understand the strategy, but we make so much money off steam, its silly not to sell it there too.

I hope their strategy takes into account the people they'll lose because a lot of us PC gamers are tired as fuck for signing onto services just to get/play a damned game. And that's ignoring the DRM....

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I buy all my sims games on steam now because EA is retarded and I ended up buying sims3 twice because the code I had (as per the sims website) didn't work on another computer which crashed last year.

So they better fucking keep putting them on there 'cause I refuse to go elsewhere.

And yes I play the sims, fu.

It makes so little sense from a business perspective to turn from a 30 million userbase to build it all up from scratch. I don't envision people running both clients at once either, so it's not even remotely possible that they'd ever enjoy such an audience again.

All Im going to say is they have the right to sell their games where they want, no one is forcing anyone to purchase them. I cant talk alot about the platform and what all it entails but having one centralized location for all of their titles can go either way for consumers. But I still dont like it.

They already invested in changing the name/look of it all (used to be EA Download Manager), and they need recent games to make people to have to sign up to buy from them with them being the (supposedly) sole supplier, that's the idea.

It'll cost them in the short term, but for the service it'll probably help it in the long run. Imagine if HL2 launched without needing Steam. We may be in a completely different situation today.

I had to stop playing that series after Sims 2. Got to the point where I was putting too many hours into it, and that I was kinda hoping they weren't going to do the never-ending expansion packs like they did with the first.

Probably a good thing as they're doing that exact same thing with Sims 3 now, but even worse with all those 'object' expansions with furniture and shit.

Granted I did get Sims3 Ambition for my iPod, but that was only a buck.

Well I never bought from EA anyway, so no big loss for me.

Steam is just a "store" I don't see why people refuse to buy the game for just that reason is rather silly in my opinion..

Dunno about you, but Steam is much more than just a 'store' to me.

Being a non-pc gamer, could someone detail what the benefits of Steam is over something else, besides their large library of games to choose from? I have no idea.

    • Auto-updates (a biggy to me).
    • Download games from it and not need the stupid install process.
    • Friends list.
    • Steam Overlay (snapshots, web-browser, achievement lookups, etc, handy in fullscreen games).
    • Voice chat with Steam buds.
    • Cloud saves/syncing on supported titles.
    • Game sales every fucking day.
    • SteamPlay support (buy game once for PC/Mac copy).
    • Steam Community (organize groups/friends, set up events, etc)

So...something like a console UI, but for PC?
