I think Burns is worth the cap hit. He's a solid, solid defender and he's young. I don't think there's too many guys like him on the market and SJ wanted to lock him up. I wouldn't call it a bargain, but I think he's worth 3.8 Vokouns.

I saw a couple people posting their predictions for next season. The first one I saw was Eklund and god his predictions are horrid, (I know lolEklund), but seriously he just must want people to pay tear him apart. That guy is so goddamn dumb.

Admittedly, i don't know a lot about the east because I didn't see them much. I just based it off the games of Millers I have seen and the Olympics. Ill take your word for it though since you are a Sabers fan.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good, solid goalie. I just don't think he deserves as much hype as he gets.

I'd much rather have a Thomas (or Hasek).

People are underatting Colorado, with Varly as the goalie they won't finish 15th. I'd also wager Dallas will still finish on the bubble, #9/10ish. We lost Richards but improved our depth, defense, and balance a lot.

Buffalo is going to be KILLER this year. Ennis, Gerbe are coming into their second season, they added a bunch of solid players, and now Roy is coming back. People seriously underestimate Roy, he's extremely talented.

And the Devils were viewed as a fairly well set-up team going into last season. Buffalo is very similar to what it was last year, with the additions of Leino and Ehrhoff, and loss of Connolly.

IMO, the Devils were an abnormality. I'm not sure what it was, but I certainly do not expect a repeat of last season for them. People can make the argument that they're a completely different team with and without Parise, but as Pittsburgh has shown, no team is defined by a single player. I believe the Devils are still a structurally sound team without Parise.

As for Buffalo, they're going to have amazing depth with scoring forwards (Roy, Vanek, Stafford, Pominville, Boyes, Gerbe, Ennis) along with a solid D-core. I can't see them finishing lower than 6th, while 4th is certainly attainable.

Buffalo was without Roy for over 1/2 the season. Roy is a key part of the Sabres offense. Just as we got Stafford back, we lost Roy. With both of them on the ice, coupled with Ennis and Gerbe, this year should be a good year. I'm pretty excited.

Sharks signed Colin White today too. Just a one year deal, but never a bad idea to bring in a 2 time cup winner for cheap.
Zherdev is going back to Russia where the enigma will continue.

Shea Weber awarded a 7.5 mil contract in arbitration. Interested to see what happens now.

Also interesting that Weber reportedly turned down 7 mil a year for 3-7 years prior to arbitration. All of his choices make it seem like he wants out of Nashville. Maybe not immediately, but definitely doesn't seem to be preparing for a long haul with the team.

Also the Wings have enough cap room to trade someone like Hudler + a pick or something for Weber at the trade deadline. Fantasyland, ho.

Weber chose the one year option. After this season barring a Cup finals appearance he's out of Nashville on the first flight. When Nashville elected to have the hearing that basically sealed the deal. It will be very interesting to see where Mr. Weber ends up when he becomes a UFA. Players of his caliber don't hit the market often and Brad Richards shows teams are still willing to grossly overpay.

Agreed, it seems like he's pushing the team to actually try to become a contender or he'll move on. Can't say I blame him.

Add on top of it the fact that they are consistently lowballing the guy. He's one of the top 5 d-men in the league. Nashville could have locked him up for years to come but couldn't see past the concept of opening their wallets. Now poor Ryan Suter is rocking himself in a corner with the lights off with Everybody Hurts playing in the background.

Boyes is going to be the enigma. If he's able to come out all cylinders firing he could be huge for the Sabres. I'm expecting a sophomore slump from both Gerbe and Ennis. It always seems to happen. The problem with the Sabres forwards is that it seems like when one is hot, everybody else is ice cold. I keep waiting for a huge year from Stafford. He's got the size, skill, talent, and barring last year the guy is durable as fuck.

LOL @ The Preds offering him $4.75m a season though in the first place. Guy is in the top handful of dmen in the league, you're not gonna get him for that cheap.
Maybe a discount IF the team was a perennial contender, but in Nashville? Nahhhh.

The number they submit and the number they were offering him in contract talks are two different things.

Weber will be an RFA after this so at least the preds can get something for him if he has no interest of staying after this season.
