    PC Won't Boot

So I just did my first build and I believe I connected everything right but it won't boot up. I have the system speaker plugged in but I don't get any beeps and my monitors won't pick up a signal. It'll turn on for maybe 5 seconds, fans spin and everything, LEDs glow, then it just turns off. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. Did you use the stand off screws that came with the case? It could also be the power supply.

ya stand offs are installed, a friend just told me to possibly check the fans that one of em isnt spinning, and I saw that one isn't. Gonna attach it and see if that fixes it

You might wanna be careful, if it's a short like it seems it is, touching the inside of the case while the pc is on might sting.

Anytime I work inside it I take the power out and wait for the system to empty out. Is there any way to 100% tell if it's a short or a fan issue like my friend suggests? I was just looking at the fan connector, one of the teeth was bent pretty bad

You could take everything out of the case and put it on a piece of cardboard and see if it starts that way. It sounds like a short. It might be a little easier if you post everything from your build here. Do you have another system you could try that power supply in to make sure it works?

Did you make sure that you plugged in the 8 pin power connector also? Mine mobo came with 4 of the holes with a little plastic thing over them, just wondered if you took it off and hooked the other 4 connectors to it.

This is something i'd really check first.

If its not seated correctly, your pc could be shutting off right away to try and not fry the cpu

checked the cpu heatsink, and the pins on the mobo. Quite a few were bent, not sure what I did to fuck em up that bad. Anyway, went through newegg to get a replacement, gonna try once it gets back here. I appreciate the help.

The pins in Intel's LGA sockets unfortunately bend very easily - it could've happened when they put the socket cap on in the factory, or if it got bumped during shipping, or possibly when you were putting the CPU in the socket. When in doubt I blame UPS, so doing an RMA was the right call.

Lol the people who build systems with the 1336 intel boards where I work have fucked up those boards beyond all recognition before. If you're careful you won't bend any pins and I would make sure they're not being bent from when you're taking the cover off thats another way of bending them. If they are mangled pretty badly you can still fix them quite easily with a magnifying glass or scope and a pair of tweasers. I've recovered some of the worst bent pins before and still managed to make them work so its definitively something to do and if you break a pin you can always RMA it then.

Necro, mobo finally got here and I started doing the build.

Now my problem is I can't get any display. the mobo appears to have no onboard graphics and the gtx470 seems to be running fine. The entire PC sounds like it is running but I just can't get any display.

one thing to note, the speaker the mobo was shipped was broken when it got here, so idk if there's any beeping. I'm trying to find a local store here that carries one because I'm not going to rma the board for a $1 speaker. Just trying to get some troubleshooting done before to possibly fix it before I get the speaker. As always, thank you for the help!
