whats a good gpu for my pc

Ok so i have a Dell inspiron. I need a decent gpu to run ffxiv at a decent resolution with no lag. I bought a random radeon HD 6750 at best buy today and it had no power cable for it, used one from gfs gpu and wouldn't fit any of the connectors in my pc. Also it had no HDMI slots in it or a VGA port (which i mainly use) (did include an adapter that wouldn't fit the gpu at all) So what is a good gpu for my pc?

Basically what i need is a psu 170 or less that has an VGA port or at least a HDMI, uses PCI express, and connects to the psu using the power cable i have:

If possible would perfer one from best buy so i can hook it up and test it to make sure it meets my needs before i purchase off newegg/amazon

When people are asking for help, I normally try not to be rude, as they're opening themselves up to criticism when they really just want assistance. I'll be honest, though -- I almost didn't know whether I should have taken this post seriously or not, as it looks like you jumped into a potentially expensive situation without conducting any research first.

For starters, the connector you've photographed is a SATA power cable -- that is, for things like DVD-ROMs and Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) -- and it will not work with any modern graphics card, essentially. Secondly, you've mentioned you have a Dell Inspiron, but to help you, we would have to know exactly which one (e.g., Dell Inspiron I-500 (or whatever the model number and name are)).

You may be able to get a GPU connector adapter, but whether your computer can even handle that or not depends upon the power supply it came with (which is likely underpowered), and we won't know that till we know exactly what Dell you have.

sry for the lack of information. Its a Dell Inspiron 570. As for the cable thats the only thing that was just floating around that i saw that i could plug into :/. From what i googled its a 300w psu but not 100% sure on that. Sounds like i can just use a sata to ATA converter cable that like 10 bucks.

Ya from the sounds of it looks like you're gonna be needing quite a bit more than a GPU... definitely research more into it

my word computer is a 560 model (intel) and I put a 9600 in it without any issues at all, your mileage may vary but Im not sure Id want to put anything higher in there, and yeah youll probably need an SATA to molex adapter to fit your unit

also, the dry fit approach by using best buy is fine but dont buy that shit there, I priced my 560ti at 229.00 on amazon and it was 349.00 at best buy, so save yourself some money and get it off the net for the extra wallet

and yes, if you want to go with too much power you will have to replace the power supply with one that is specifically fit for dell set motherboards, random power supplies need not apply, dell pinned unit or maybe fry your motherboard

You can use this with your current power supply. This will outperform the card you bought.

I've done a few similar upgrades for clients as what you're looking to do here. So long as the physical form factor of the Dell PSU is standard, you'll likely be fine putting in a new one. Obviously I can't guarantee it'll work as name brand PC motherboards can be weird and proprietary, but for the most part they're versions of cheap motherboards sourced from another company with most of their features locked down.

Because I'm pretty bored right now I looked it up for you, your PC does accept standard form factor power supplies, and a number of people have upgraded them without any problems. If you do this, don't skimp out on the PSU if you give a shit about your PC. Order a nice name brand one from newegg or something. Corsair and Antec are both good brands. I'd say a 500w would be plenty for your needs.

All that said, shit can and does happen. It sounds like you don't really know much about computers. Changing a PSU is really easy, but if you're not comfortable with it you might want to get a friend or someone to help. The key thing is to pay attention and see what plugs go where as you remove the old PSU. Whatever you do, do not force anything if it doesn't want to fit. Best of luck!

Be careful with the 20/24 pin molex connector (motherboard power connector) though, make sure it's in properly but don't snap your mobo.

I really don't wanna replace the psu if at all possible. Gonna hit up best buy in a couple hours when the open and see what they have that will run on a 300 watt (I buy from best buy just to make sure everything works out, if everything runs smooth for a couple days i buy off newegg/amazon and return the best buy one lol). My limit pretty much is $180 bucks. If I have to buy a $130 card and a $50 psu I guess that would be ok. Also how much watt is it ok to go over/ Somma linked a nice one (lil out of my price range atm) that is 300-400 watt. If one asked for like a 350 watt psu would I be ok? Also toymon I hate this computer lol its just something I bought to get me off my laptop. Moving out of my apartment in a couple months, Then i'll be saving around 400 bucks a month and will try to build a real rig.

Edit: does anyone know if best buy sells SATA to molex adapter's? I cant seam to find them anywhere on their site.

Thank you all for your help i really appreciated it

I think the problem some Dells have with standard PSUs isn't the cabling, but the size. When PC Power and Cooling (at least) used to make a Dell edition PSU, it was simply shorter than their normal one.

If you want a cheap PSU that should be serviceable, look at an Antec Earthwatts 380W. It's been used in some budget builds on Tom's Hardware and such (they used it with a 6850). I also have one in my HTPC. You can often find it under $50, even not on sale (it's $45 on Newegg atm).
The 6700 series cost more than you need to pay for the performance - outside of the BIOS, nothing is changed from the 5700 series (the BIOS does enable a feature or two for Blu-ray playback). Depending on where you go, rebates, etc, a 5750 or 5770 may be a little cheaper, for the same gaming performance. Online, you can get a 5770 for $110-130 before rebate, and about as low as $90 after rebate.

I think the catch with some Dells is the depth - they allow for the exact spec, but not more, whereas most cases you'd buy are more flexible. Again, the PC Power and Cooling Dell models are all that exact 140mm depth - most of the normal models are 150mm.

Incidentally, the Wikipedia page on the ATX standard has info on the alternate wiring Dells used - that was the PII/PIII era. Don't think they do that anymore.

Power rating...ideally, probably the 500W range or so. For a new build, probably 550W-650W would be the recommendation for a single GPU.

Realistically, you want to add the capacity to comfortably push whatever GPU you're buying. Given your price range for that, you probably don't need too much.

If you've got a few extra bucks, you may want to consider buying a good 600+ watt psu, and use it in your next build, instead of buying another one then. It'll cost more now, but when you have the money to build a new pc, it'll save you from having to buy another.
