it is impressive as far as speed goes (his damage is insane) but you can't compare a pally to an ele or any other class for that matter, apples and oranges and what not.

you could say the best defense is a good offense but there is no other class in the game that can take the beating that pallys can and i predict a huge rise in people creating them once the nests come out... as it REQUIRES a tank to even stand a chance at winning. I've read about bosses doing 10-20k damage per hit and it makes me <3 knowing that i'm not wasting my time making a tank class lol

I really do hope that mercenary can end up tanking if I do actually play this for that long. It's the only reason I made the char in the first place. So far that AOE taunt I have is pretty lackluster, nothing really turns to attack me after I use it. But I think it may be because I'm leveling with people like 5 levels higher than me, so their damage makes my taunt do anothing.

Mercenarys won't be sought out as a tank, they just don't have the survivability as a paladin, but they can semi tank if everyone is well geared and knows how to do bosses for most battles. Paladin is not necessary in any fight except for 8 man raids, that doesn't mean they're useless, some bad players will end up making pala needed partys but a good equiped/skilled group can conquer most battles just because of the nature of this game being action and not tank n spank.
