Chronic aches are not emergencies. Under EMTALA, hospitals cannot release or transfer patients until they are stabilized. If they're already stable, they don't really have to do dick, and people can wait in a triage room all damn day just to be seen. In other news, this shit happens constantly in Canada, except it's mostly people living in the street willingly breaking windows and waiting by the car/house to get arrested so they don't have to live outside during our cold as fuck winters.

I read another article on this that I can't find, so here's some backstory:
He refilled Coke machines for something like 30 years, lost his job a few years back, got a job driving a truck, lost that job, got a job at a convenience store, got his aches and pains from restocking shelves and shit. He had medical problems that he couldn't pay for (messed up feet/leg, growth on his chest or something) and didn't want to be a burden to his relatives or borrow money that he couldn't reasonably return, so he robbed a bank.

He's threatening to be a repeat offender if they let him off with a light prison sentence. He wants to stay in prison for 3 years until his social security kicks in and then live off that. Says that he feels he was given a bunch of shitty options and chose the best one.

Side-note, the teller responding to his $1 demand managed to freak out so hard that they sent her to the hospital.
