Sorry for the slight derail question, but you're going from Florida to California for that, single way, or round trip?

I'm trying to find tickets out to Seattle from any of the areas around NY/Toronto, and the cheapest thing I can get is like 500 something for a round trip. Shit's expensive

I pack a hiking backpack full on my trips. Usually get through security no problem and if the flight isn't full I don't worry about finding overhead space. If it's a full flight, they'll check it at the door and it costs you nothing.

While not really that cheap, it's nowhere near the craziness that is international ticket prices >.> My parents wanted me to come home again this summer, but 4 round trip tickets between Seoul and Detroit would cost upwards of $5k... They offered to pay part of it, but we can't afford to pay for the rest yet... maybe by christmas... International flights cut back on how many bags you can check without extra cost, but I seriously doubt they wouldn't allow at least 1 checked and 1 carry on included in the ticket price...

Fly into a smaller or shittier airport? Here I know I save $100 flying into/out of LGA instead of JFK.

Are you using Orbitz to book? Try to fly in and out in the middle of the week to get the cheapest prices.

I took AirTran when I needed to take a suitcase; it was $20 when I checked in online. They had cheap prices too. American Airlines and Delta always jack up their prices. I remember looking up a flight and it was something ridiculous like $1000, and other airlines were offering it for $200.
