Whether body weight is fat or muscle, it still requires your heart to work harder, your cells to engage in more duplications (more chances of cancer mutations) etc. etc.

There are strong correlations to BMI and certain health risks.

Football players have short lifespans for a reason - and it's not concussions.

tl;dr a person at 15% body fat and a normal BMI is going to increase their risk of weight-related illness in their life by putting on even just pure muscle weight to reach and live at "overweight" status.

5'5", 150 lbs, 14% body fat according to the site someone linked here...

My weight was as low as 114 like two years ago, which was pretty fucked up. Average was around 127, but then I got hit with a week long stomach flu in the middle of a summer heat wave and lost 13 pounds.

This isn't true at all outside of extreme cases <.< care to post sources? lol

The whole premise behind peak fitness practically revolves around improving your cardiovascular health. The heart is a muscle just like any other muscle in your body. Exercising it more makes it stronger, more efficient, more healthy. This is magnified even more when all of your core/skeletal muscles are fit and operating more efficiently with less effort as well.

This is why athletes typically have a much lower resting heart rate and blood pressure than an average/obese person (two biggest factors in how hard your heart has to work). A friend of mine in high school had a resting heart rate of 28, which is absolutely insane (avg is like 70). I'd run with him for 10 miles at a 6-7m pace and he wouldn't even lose his breath (guy was also a regional track champion though).

Also, football players are horrible examples of 'being fit'... am I being trolled? lol I'm pretty sure the majority of football players are over like, 15-20% body fat. Which is majorly unhealthy in itself.

Obviously extremes are never good, and I would think 7'5" 300lbs people would be an extreme. Heck, most professional athletes are more on the extreme side in some way, but this is also BG. We're not exactly full of pro athletes.

TL;DR: Cardio fitness > all, regardless of muscle weight outside of extremes.

I have no idea what cardiovascular endurance has anything to do with anything I said.

In fact, I'm sure it has nothing to do with anything I said.

And the overwhelming majority of obese people are over 15-20% body fat, and they suffer for it.

I used football players because they are an easy-to-point-at "in shape for their size" group of obese people, and they still suffer from "fat people" maladies despite being in great shape for their size.

It's EXTREMELY difficult to be obese and under 15% body fat.

I'm not sure what posts you've been reading, my whole original post revolved around the fact I was skinny as a twig through most of my life and still considered obese by my BMI measurements (despite never having more than 10-14% body fat).

It's worse right now, my body fat is lower (7%) and my BMI is even higher than it was before. And I'm still relatively thin/lean.

My argument is that now that you are not obese anymore, your risk of weight-related diseases like heart disease and stroke has decreased.

Not sure how "it's worse right now" since you are just borderline overweight and 30 lbs from being obese.

172 is basically the cutoff for someone your height to be considered "overweight"...obese is 206+. If your BMI is higher now than it was before, you weren't obese before.

I am not sure how I feel about seeing guys who are like 5'5" and 125-135 lbs. D:

So then what's a good or rather average body fat %? I followed the instructions from that link and measured myself to the best of my ability and got 18%. It doesn't look good ._.

6'2" 220. Unfortunately, much of that is fat. However, I have medical concerns, so any weight is good weight, as long as I'm not ridiculously obese.

Actually, that's my mistake... I was referring to anything above average weight to be obese.

Either way though, I'd never believe it accurate to refer to anyone with body fat under 15% to be overweight.

I guess you'd have to consider what the goals are of having medical definitions of "weight classes". Since being heavy is a significant contributing factor in a number of serious health conditions, I'd assume that is why it's considered as part of your health profile.

Social stigmas or whatever are a totally different story. If you are sub 10% body fat and overweight, you're obviously carrying a lot of muscle, and if you like that, it is what it is, rock and roll. It doesn't mean you're necessarily going to live longer than the skinny "average class" dude, but that isn't what you're going for either.

I'm not as lean as you are but I'm still in pretty good shape, and like you (at least until recently) I'm classified as "overweight". I just don't pretend that I shouldn't lose weight if I want to live a longer, healthier life.

BMI is no good for most athletes obviously. If you're not an athlete/don't train then BMI will work for you....

Being stronger is correlated with lower mortality from all causes of death.

I am not sure that the amount of lean muscle that can be put on naturally reaches the health-damaging levels that the obese/powerlifter/linebacker suffer from.

5'11 231lbs here. Not all that fat though. Most people are shocked when I tell them my weight and usually say I don't look a pound over 220-225. =/

People are "shocked" when you tell them your weight and it's 6-11lbs more then they would have guessed. Really?
