Just joined a friend's league and they are doing an auction draft, which I have never done before, any tips for a newbie? Played plenty of fantasy football, just never auction. 14 team league, 200$ budget and ppr btw.

dont try to drive up prices, it will backfire. you WILL be able to land studs towards the end of the draft for below market value so dont blow your load early.

Make everyone else spend their money first. Nominate players that will cost a lot of money and that you don't want. I'd recommend mid-rounders that you don't want (think tim hightower). People will overpay early on mediocre players. The top tier players will fetch large amounts no matter when they're nominated.

I want Hightower! (think he will be pretty good this year but we'll see about the price) In the middle of a mock draft with some friends atm and think I'm doing ok. I was thinking the same thing though, put out players I don't want and make everyone else spend their money first. thanks for the advice so far though. Any ideas on how many players you usually get for 5$ and under?

While this can be true, also look out for opportunities to buy studs early before the market is set. You might be able to grab Adrian Peterson for $10 less than what the market ends up dictating his worth to be because people are afraid to spend early. Basically just look for opportunities throughout.
