I also don't get the hype on Ryan. He's a good RL QB, but why is he getting so much love? Just because they got Julio Jones to add a threat along with Roddy White? I mean.. they do have Harry Douglas (lol), so maybe that's why? (I'm kidding)

But really. They're still gonna be a run first and second.. and maybe even third sort of team. Granted he did throw the ball 40+ times in the first half of a preseason game.

But yeah. I'd go Rodgers > Vick > Brady > Brees > Rivers > Peyton > Romo > Schaub > Rapelistburger > Stafford (barring injuries) over Ryan..

I know the discussion isn't specifically about me, but the reason I am trying to trade for Ryan is I think he is the best QB that isn't starting in this league. The guy I am trading with is starting Brees, so I figured I could get him easier than the other QBs that Akiyama listed.

Calling bullshit on them being a run first team. They put playmakers galore around Ryan. That's what they were missing last year. I'd still take Rodgers/Vick/Brady/Brees/Rivers/Romo over him. I'm a huge stafford guy, but even there, I'd have to stop to think. Not taking Peyton over him.

I explained it already on the league forums ketsuri, a lot of the reason why people don't like the trade is because of when the players were taken in the draft. Round 5 for a backup qb (Ryan) is pretty high and the fact you are "upgrading" at RB (Turner/Gore a wash I know, but Gore was taken almost a full round earlier) and the fact you're only giving up a mid-round WR to do this is why people don't like the deal. Like I said draft position doesn't correlate to how good the player is but a lot of people use it as a preseason metric for trades when everyone has a statline of 0's.

Yeah. If you think about it, draft position really states how important that individual player was to the league as a whole during the draft. If he's "more valuable," in your opinion, why didn't you draft him earlier? Why didn't anyone else? Players fell to where they fell for a reason.

Tyche pretty much had it right, yall are trippin' about Matty Ice, he is easily a top 10.. adding Jones just adds more threat for them and opens up the field. He will have a big year.

Yeah. Though the 'added playmakers galore all around him' bit seems a bit eeeeeh. They went out and got Tony Gonzalez, yes, but he's old as fuck as it is. Getting Turner's good, and then drafting up for Julio Jones is pretty good too, but they already had a Top 3 WR for him to throw to. I dunno. I personally think he could get up to 4000 yards, and probably around the same TDs. Peyton could outproduce him in 14 games though if healthy enough.

Also, was thinking about something last night that I was curious about. Is Tom Brady a system quarterback? As in.. if he were on another team (say Washington, SD, Dallas, etc) would he be the same godlike Tom Brady he is? Granted all that is nothing but hypothetical, but the fact that he can go down to a season ending injury in week 1, and the Pats can still win 11 games with a backup of a backup, Matt Cassel.. I just dunno. Put Manning on the Pats and they probably still win 3 Super Bowls.

But I was just curious on people's thoughts. Take note in no way am I bashing Brady or anything. Hell, I drafted him in a league or two in Fantasy, rofl. Just curious if Brady being a system QB has any bearings in a discussion, or if I'd be looked at like an idiot.

If Brady was drafted by one of those teams, no, he wouldn't be Tom Brady. Today though, he could translate, I'm sure film study habits and other QB intricacies learned in NE would carry on with him.

And they put playmakers around Ryan this year. They sold their draft for one player. Laugh at Harry Douglas all you want, but his knee is no longer an issue and the kid is as fast as anyone. I think Jacquizz Rodgers is going to get more looks than people may think. I can't fathom calling anyone throwing for 4,000 yards and 30 TDs with a 60%+ completion overhyped, especially for a mid-round draft pick, which is more than a reasonable prediction for Ryan this year. That's top 5 QB numbers.
