Fantasy Football 2011: Jumping the Gun

One thing I've never understood in fantasy...falling in love with players that will bench ride for 15 weeks. If you have Tom Brady, you aren't staring Newton unless Tommy is on a bye week.

It's called strategy. It prevents other teams from having him and racking up Vick like fantasy numbers. If he isn't hurting in any area, why should he trade him?

But Gad is retarded when it comes to Carolina players. So even if someone offered him a huge upgrade at another spot, he probably still wouldn't take it, because you know, he has to rep for Carolina and shit. He's like Petey Pablo, so he's gonna tell you to raise up off him.

Fantasy is H2H scoring (usually), so your objective is to make your team as good as possible, not worry about others upgrading. There's no trade that happens where one team gets worse. If you can significantly upgrade at RB or WR, or w/e by giving up a backup QB that will never play, you make that move. Letting value rot in the bench is horrible strategy. Not saying you should give them away, but when you have a chance to upgrade starters for a backup price, you do it.

It matters not now. Been trying to move trades with three guys who had Newton, Stafford, and Fitzpatrick on the bench. Finally worked out something with someone else. During the draft, fucking dude took Stafford as a backup one pick before I was about to pick him up as a starter. I took QBs late and got Orton and Flacco.

I wouldn't trade Cam if I had him and Brady I would let him ride the pine, who knows who you will face in the playoffs. Would rather face Flacco or Orton than Newton (if he keeps this up) especially if i'm relatively happy with my team

Forte wouldn't have been a significant enough upgrade for me to give up the #2 QB in the league. I'm not hamstringing myself by keeping him by any means.

Just sounds like you're a little butthurt that the deal didn't come your way, and if you weren't going to give me Forte...who the hell is even worth Cam on your roster? I mean, really.

I drafted QB's late and ended up with Orton as my starter too. Although if the first 2 weeks are any indication I might take Sanchez off the bench for the Raiders game this week for points :/

You were right on the first part, but I don't let homerism keep me from making the right moves in FF. I mean hell...someone just tried to play on my homer offering me Smitty and I lol'd and declined.

Nicks, White, Forte are all worth more than Cam. You're in a league where 12 QBs start, no more. You have to find a trade partner that has either a bad QB situation (me), or has a starter get hurt with an incompetent backup. In that league, you have no less than 3 other guys with starting level QBs who will "sit" on them to increase value for only two things to happen...their value decreases or you don't have a trade partner. To move Cam, you have to have a partner. No one is going to give up their #1 RB for Cam when they have a good starter; Matt Ryan, for instance. Cam's upgrade isn't worth giving a #1 RB. Maybe if Cam was the #5RB you stole in round 5, you can get away with this, because 24 RB's start. Only 12 QBs though, so your options are limited. So, now I've moved on a trade with someone else, and if you want to sit on Cam, that's fine, but moving him later will be more difficult, and impossible if you're looking to get #1 RB/WR value for him.

And I'm not salty, I like the trade I made. It def much better than giving up Forte for Cam lol. We didn't even work anything out to be salty over.

You always want to talk FF 101 to defend your position, but if the roles were reversed you'd be giving the "sell high, buy low," lesson right now.

Forte was the only thing I would have considered from your team. I'm just not very high on any of the rest of your players, starters or bench.

I think you should read and understand what I posted about finding a partner. Moving QBs is hard because so few start. If, in week 5, Cam is the #5 QB, someone isn't going to trade their #8-10 RB (which will be your asking price) and their #15 QB for him, because it's just not worth it.

Well I'm not in that league so I can't see Tyche's team, but I'd be listening to just about any offers for him right about now, especially in a 1QB league where you have Tom Brady.

Maybe if Romo misses significant time, that team as well, but that person also lost J. Charles, so they aren't going to be willing to give up a really good WR/RB to acquire him. So that leaves you with just 2 partners unless someone gets hurt, and they have to value Cam very highly and be willing to give up what you consider a quality player to get someone who may be a marginal upgrade for them.

You also have to look at it that other managers will want to move their pine QBs later as well. Especially the guy sitting on Stafford. There isn't anyone in that league that would take Cam over Stafford.

I was actually willing to give up Nicks or White for Stafford and some ancillary WR (maybe Burleson), but there's no way in hell I'd do that for Newton.

Plenty of QBs have underperformed early. If someone wants to play matchups or a possible upgrade over Big Ben, Schaub, Ryan, Eli, etc. that could work too.
