    Number of players?

I've read FFXIV has been a disappointment and everyone went back to FFXI or other games, etc. But never mind that, I'm going to be picking up this game in a month or two after I build a new system (not building it for this game, need to upgrade anyway) and I was curious how this game compares right now population wise to FFXI. From what I remember, and I may be waaay off, but FFXI circa '05 was like 4k - 6k at any one time. I know this game is probably way less, just curious is to how much less. Thanks.

There was some JP players that posted on the forums about active players on their server. They used some webcrawler thingie to scan the lodstone everyday and check SP gains on all characters on their server. They started this in Jan. And as of last week, their server had a 25% decline in active players. (2000 down to 1500) I forget which server they were on, sorry, and I can't seem to find the post. It was posted in the JP forums, then someone reposted on ZAM, then again on FFXIVPro.

I'm on Mysidia and it seems my server has more people than that. Just by going off of FFXIVPro, I'm ranked 1,024 (14,643 overall) out of 9000 some odd members, and that is just the people who have registered on that site. I'm fairly active with 2 r50s, all DoW 30+, DoM 25, DoH 10+ highest at 27, and DoL all at 10. And with only being ranked 1,024, that would tell me that my server has quite a few active players. (Or at least I would think so, considering more than half my social LS is not even 50, and it seems like most people I meet don't have a 50) Arc Tea is ranked 4th overall out of 49,000. (again, just people that have registered on FFXIVPro)

Before they removed the /sea all function, my server had 1700~ players on at most times with 2000+ during JP prime time hours.

Before they took away the ability to see the number of players online, and they took it away many many months ago now, I saw my server drop to 400 people online at various times between 12-5pm CST... The post above shows the # of players logged on during an entire day, not at any single given time. You're looking at less than 1000 people online even during times when the largest amount of players are online. I wouldn't be surprised if, during the deadest time, the population falls below 400. You can really notice it in the main city, sometimes there are more NPCs than players.

Don't let Biggie's post fool you, there was a brief time when there were that many players online, but that's all it was: brief. It is no more. FFXIVpro may give the illusion of many players, but realistically it just shows us how many people tried it and quit, especially when you compare it to the thread linked above.

If you aren't familiar with any japanese, it may be very difficult for you to play given the current state. NA parties are generally a rare occurence and can be very slow and painful to form, but japanese parties on the other hand are very common and fill up instantly.

I apologize if my post seems negative, but it's the reality of the situation. There's no point in sugarcoating anything when it comes to FFXIV.

XIV is in a very bad state atm, it has really low player numbers and it's very noticeable.

Having said that, there is still no monthly fee and you can get the game cheap. Just don't expect anything to the standard of FFXI.

I would expect the game to surpass the low standards of XI by miles. Well, at least 1 mile anyway.

When I quit it was down to maybe 50 total non-bots during NA primetime if the leve reset wasn't that evening. Rose to maybe 300 people during JP time. Only near leve reset time did population sniff 1000 players and that's being generous. Of course there's nothing to do so most people just do dunes/ACU/ranine and logoff til next reset and the rest bot.
