BG Advice: How to handle a specific crazy

Right, right. And I know that, I'm hoping someone here has experience dealing with pyschiatric patients who can point me towards where to go in the social system. Right now the very simplied version is

State office A reffers to State office B
State office B reffers to federal office A
Federal office A reffers to State office A

And that's assuming no breaks. As I said, I'm as hands off as I can be. What he's going through right now is sad because some people are probably taking advantage of him, and in turn its affecting the rest of my family. I dont know where to go at this point, and most of the places I've looked have so far been about as helpful FEMA in 2005. I'm only asking here since there are a random assortment of people, and since so far the professional system has been a complete and utter failure.

As for the medical system, see the infinite loop. He got approved for social security and was told in writing that medicare would be covering him. My parents let his insurance lapse, then after 1 month medicare denied him saying he didn't qualify. So now he has no insurance, and with a preexisting condition he can't get any. I'm leaving out a lot of 'goodies' like this, I just want to know what my family can do to help him so that I can stop feeling guitly for watching the trainwreck but not participating.

The more he feels loved in his current state the more he'll think that things are fine the way they are.
Make him feel like a total loser until he's forced to choose between his addiction and his self-esteem. It's harsh, but it's the best solution overall.
His drug addiction and mental condition are probably linked. If he can get rid of one he'll probably be cured of the other one as well.

Cut him off that is literally the only way he will ever have a chance of getting better. My step brother just recently turned his life around, he was basically insane whenever he was doing drugs which was all the time. He broke into the deans office at UCLA and pissed on all the furniture set pictures on fire and got on the deans laptop he left in his office and sent his "manifesto" which was basically a compilation of math problems and completely inane ramblings that somehow wouldve lead to world peace to everyone on the deans contact list. He then ended up in holding cells over and over for essentially being drugged up/retarded in public walking around in pajamas screaming at people and talking about math and would argue with the people in his cell about how blacks and latinos were statistically more likely to be there than him and that they should be okay with being in there because of that and he should be let out because he is white, which meant every time i saw him after that he would have black eyes and broken bones. He then got put into a pysch ward and would tell me his plans how he would recruit MMO players as they were "easy to train" to infilitrate the psych wards across america to show how corrupt they were and pointless and in 2-3 years file a gigantic class action lawsuit against psychiatry basically. *this is when he got cut off from the family* After that he dissapeared for a while and ended up at some gay pride parade on the east coast and got the shit kicked out of him for trying to say some sort of anti gay manifesto during the middle of the parades while high as a kite. Around this time he ran out of things to steal because the family cut him off and he couldn't find drugs anymore and got tired of getting the shit kicked out of him every time he was high near others. And now after all that he is finally back to normal.

Moral of the story cut him off and pretend he doesn't fucking exist until he's back to being the person you remember him being. And don't take him to a psych ward or anything like that unless you just want him drugged up so much hes a zombie.

I have an older half-brother, he must be...shit I don't know, 36 or 37 by now. Hasn't worked a day in his life and drinks from sunrise to sunset. Mother's been giving him money every chance she gets and he just goes to the liquor store with it. At one point he had a job, and everything was lining up, until he got "anxiety" and called in sick for his first 3 days of work. Ever since he got drunk and tried to stab me I haven't seen him. My dad finally got my mom to cut him off as well. Last we heard he's facing prison time for assault or something.

holy shit no, you only bring up drawing around him if you have an hour you desperatly want to dissapear into nothing.

I would be more than happy to see him cut off and stop draining my parents. It wont happen with my mom though. She'll fight that battle until one of them is dead, and thats what I'm worried about. I dont want to feel guilty in the future if something happens to them and I didn't help.

As a semi-joke answer: Give him Zyprexa. Just feed it to him, it'll be ok.

(Zyprexa is a medicine used to help with Schizophrenia, in lighter doses it just helps you get to sleep.) So, give him that and it'll not only help the disease, it'll put him to sleep, thus ending any and all other probems! Yay.

As a serious note: The person I am seeing now-- His mother is schizophrenic. And it's just been a constant battle with Baker Acts, medicines, and hell. I can't give any real advice cause all I see is crap that isn't working. But, good luck, because it's definitely no joke and I'll be back to check on this thread to see if we can make any headway, too.

Oh! The only thing I can possibly say is LOOK INTO BAKER ACTING HIM. You said he's married? His wife can do it. She can also get... Guardianship? Over him if he proves mentally incapable of taking care of himself. Which, if you had a doctor look at him now, he probably would be. She can then control his medicine and what not.

Note: He can lose his license to drive by doing the Guardianship thing, I think. AND it might cost money. No idea how much. Couple grand maybe. Again, not sure on the financial aspects of it. Also, sorry if this has been posted already.

My sister and law and I have been waiting for a long, long time for what happened to go down and when it finally did it was truly hilarious. Well, for us at least, and I think we're allowed a little bit of mirth at his expense. What happened you ask? His dealer came on to him. Like, creepster-felt-him-up after they smoked together this last time. And its bothering my brother so much that he wont go near the stuff anymore after we told him that he might have done it in the past if he was really messed up and not even remembered. Wasn't really our intention, but hey whatever works right?
