This is my favorite EVE one, not because it was the worst but because it's actually a good read: http://www.wirm.net/nightfreeze/part1.html

Does anyone have the link to that old FFXIAPP list thread, feeling nostalgic.
While this is true, I still stand by my opinion. Part of what made it a huge dick move was that SE let it go on for so long before doing anything. Didn't wafik or someone submit a GM report like when it first came out and nobody cared? Anyway, when SE finally does get wind of it, they just ban everyone. Also, some people get perma and others temp banned for little to no reason. People who got entire sets might of been temp and people who got nothing got perma'd. It was a cluster fuck and SE didn't mention anything about it to anyone.
I didn't even know about it until it got fixed. iirc at least on these forums people were trying to keep it quiet because they wanted to keep using the glitch and not make it public. And it was being used for months if I'm not mistaken. I don't know, I sort of see your point but I think the everquest one is still a bigger dick move by the developers. If the LS decided to keep going after 17 hours of PW and then got jailed that might have been top 2.
Pretty sure some guy posted about it (before it was public knowledge, obviously) and Wafik deleted it before people saw.
I can't remember what the resolution on the ganiman thing was, can anyone fill me in?
Also the marathon PW / AVs were more epic than the sleeper, the sleeper died in like 4 hours.
Yeah except the devs didnt auto despawn AV or shut down the server during the first kills of those monsters. But I think you could argue the terrible boss design was a dick move in a sense.
Hell I'd argue that the AV video was a pretty big dick move as well.
I think the whole concept of AV should have been on the list. Every time anyone killed it, or got close to killing it, "uh no, that's not how you do it, try again". I guess the author was looking for player to player shenanigans as opposed to company buttholery.
I don't think there was a resolution? Did people even get their promised mousepads/t-shirts? Gani never 'opened the books' so to speak and didn't bother defending himself beyond letting his usual minions come here and tell stories that were either lies or exposed deeply flawed thinking about the real cost of servers. If they lied, he pocketed a nice chunk of donated change and walked away. If he was a crap manager, he wasted a good chunk of donated change and walked away.
I think unlocking DRK was a huge dick move!
Closest i could find

The secret was baraero!
What made the marathon PW so great is that they went through all of the forms, every bit of monotony and frustration and fatigue had already set in, and then on the final form he unexpectedly kills your entire alliance every 25% and respawns lamps. It's like "congrats! you got to the last of the 18 forms! You're now halfway!"
I think a lot of you are missing the point of the article, in that these were dick moves by players against other players for the most part.
To expand on what Kuno said - The nearest anyone can figure out as to how the Salvage bans were handed out was if you'd formed the leader of one of the parties involved. Some people got banned by paying groups to farm items for them, because they didn't report the bug. But the time frame (3 months) that it took for them to ban players combined with the time frame that it took for them to act on the information (6 months by most information) puts it up there with the 'teleport the protesters into space'. Some people got nothing, absolutely nothing even though they took advanage of it the entire time it went on. And yes, some people did submit bug reports on it when it first happend and after a few months said 'fuck it' because they where tired of 3 people need a 35 and only seeing one every other Season.
I'm surprised AV/PW isn't on the list for the for the fact that the fights were disigned with inhuman expectations in the first place. The devs straight said they expected both fights to be on the magnitude of 24+ hours after the 18 hour PW. SOE never intended for the EQ mob to be killed, when it was in danger of happening thats when the LOL kicked in. IIRC, There's a screenshot somewhere of a LS getting threatened/jailed by a GM for holding AV while members switched jobs after it first came out. And none of that touches the insantiy of the mobs HP vs the amount of damage a player could do before they nerfed it.
Basically if there was a list of the biggest dick moves that developers pulled on players in online gaming, I'm sure XI wins hands down.
Well, XIV for existing, but XI for all the rest.
