But the time frame (3 months) that it took for them to ban players combined with the time frame that it took for them to act on the information (6 months by most information) puts it up there with the 'teleport the protesters into space'. Some people got nothing, absolutely nothing even though they took advanage of it the entire time it went on. And yes, some people did submit bug reports on it when it first happend and after a few months said 'fuck it' because they where tired of 3 people need a 35 and only seeing one every other Season.

To be fair I'm baised since 20+ or so people I played with regularly got hammered or quit over it. I was annoyed that they waited but then finding out how the bans fell made me super mad.

Well I think the list also wanted a single event that happened ingame. Aso, XI is a smaller game then the ones used.

Might be in subscriptions, but EVE is far more in depth and treacherous than FFXI ever was or will be.

That has little to do with the matter at hand.

everything AV before level cap got increased was a dick move

there was a point in WoW vanilla where a horde guild stole Prince Thunderaan from an alliance guild and kited it to org where there guard killed it, thus not allowing that alliance guild to loot him for the legendary sword. There was a video on youtube somewhere

Just remember, boys and girls - the same people that did this are your GMs in FFXI.

Actually, GMs despawned our (BGs) first JoL (which was probably the first JoL ever popped).

Is that tied to the picture of the whole Linkshell jailed with the GM saying "Hello BG! /wave" or something along those lines?

No I don't think BG members ever got mass jailed. We couldn't kill it and we were holding it and Ondori or Bert called a GM to ask them if it's even killable or something. I think before the GM spoke they just depopped it and were like "We can't give out any information etc". It was ages ago so maybe my memory is a bit off on the whole matter, but it was something like that.

I'm also surprised the ffxi absolute virtue 24+ hour fighting didn't make that list with so many fighting it.

Also I'm surprised the Warcraft Lich King ghoul event didn't make the list.

The event passed around a plague that turned Players and NPC's into ghouls, which aggroed guards. How is this bad you say...? Well the flight path NPC's are immune to the plague but in defense constantly spawn 4 "protectors" when attacked.

In a "no fight" zone, you could make this NPC spawn countless hundreds of its helpers, causing people/server to crash after awhile. People were running around town killing Bank/auctionhouse/vendors everything, its like that plague mentioned in that report all over again but with server downing effects (and so much lag with a few hundred npc's being spawned by the flightpath npc)

This is why I hung out in Shat during that week. Just hopped on my flying mount and perched on a ledge so I couldn't get griefed. God I hated that event.

Sorry, but the EQ one is being completely misconstrued, for those of you who never played EQ, here's how that zone went:

There were 4 keepers at the bottom of the zone, in a rectangle, each a dragon with different abilities. If you killed all 4, the keeper was unleashed. This was a one time event that would forever change the zone, therefore most guilds would kill 3/4 per week, and let it reset the next week to keep farming.
When a guild finally killed the 4 dragons, Kerafyrm(the sleeper) would spawn and a "world" event began, in which he would spawn, make his way out of the zone and go all throughout several zones killing everything in its path (PC or NPC) before finally flying off. The monster wasn't ever meant to be killed, it was given 2 death touches (basically it could kill any player every 30 seconds just by casting it) and several other aoe abilities. This was a one time event, releasing the sleeper could never happen again on that server. New servers they made were typically with the sleeper already released. After releasing the sleeper, the zone would then no longer have those dragons, and a different set of bosses would be there instead (with worse loot iirc)

PW, absolute virtue etc were actual bosses with loot tables meant to be killed (despite impossibly hard) the same didn't apply to kerafyrm. It wasn't a dick move by SOE to do, it was well known by players it wasn't meant to be killed, and they just wanted to see "what if".

As for how kerafyrm was killed: There was a room you'd jump down into with a platform prior to getting into the room where the 4 dragons and kerafyrm spawned. The platform was hovering over a pool of water. They basically used necromancers to DMF (levitate) clerics, and LOS the dragons abilities (couldnt hit them floating out of los) and they'd just res players. The cleric "epic" weapon was a res that didn't cost any mana. Ressing was possible in combat in EQ. zerg zerg zerg + many hours later, kerafyrm died (there actually was a set of players that ended up killing it at some point, it dropped a cloth hat (which was the default loot table for any mob in the game that didn't have it's own specific drops)

At least that's how I remember it, been like 9 years since I touched EQ

most of the drama people are suggesting here from ffxi was just that, drama, nothing more, but one thing in ffxi has stood head and shoulders above the rest, and id even put it above the everquest sleeper thing

AV, first time he was "locked" it was a 72 hour fight, with people sleeping in shifts (sleeper was despawned by sony after apparently 3 hours)
took another 2 years'ish before he was killed by glitches which were subsequently ninja fixed, or had people being temp banned for killing him the only way known
was at least another 2 years before SE finally said they were going to show how to kill it, and wasnt able to do it when they said at the fanfest, and released "the video" a few weeks later that still took players prolly a year to figure out what the hell they were showing us

and one other thing, that starts off as drama, but then shows the true ethnocentric side of SE, the fafnir holding/mpk that had an entire DA worth of people sent to jail, the JP players were all released after about 5 mins, but the NA players were stuck in there for hours

All this FFXI talk is making me nostalgic as hell. I wanna tank Tiamat for 4 hours of constant turmoil, but ultimate victory (& Gaiters!) when that sort of thing was a big deal again :/ Or my crowning achievement of solo tanking Bahamut when people fought it straight up as a NIN/WAR. Straight up Bahamut was a true test imo, that shit was fun. NIN/WAR was just insane though, getting hit more than once and my hate was gone. We made it work though lol. Melee burning stuff ruined the game for me.

I'll never forgive SE for that bull shit with AV. So ridiculous, its so painful to see its devolved into a zerg fight.

thats funny, because this happened with Excellence too back on Hades. Me and Stan were tanking nidhogg and and all of a sudden half of our alliance magically disappears and a lot of others in the aery as well in different LS's. everyone on vent is freaking out because they're in jail while i was left to tank this stupid fucking dragon lol. i was pissed because i hated to have pressure like that, but than it grew on me, etc and we ended up getting 2 dalms off it (which at the time was GODLY) but one of the members who had points couldnt lot it because she was being held for HOURS. meanwhile, the JP LS, that we used to camp against returned within LITERALLY 5-10 min lol. people who were arriving had to put on blockaid because they started to cure them and spam JA's. i dont know why they always got such special treatment. but i held onto that mentality for a long time that JP's were going to be able to get away with most things and i just had to accept it.

@zoo 4 hour tiamats are fun. i miss those more than the 10-20 min tiamats tbh

my biggest dick move was PW. we had to keep ours a secret because we didnt want any spectators and lag, and we were the 2nd LS ever to pop it, (in which we gave info on ruke for his) and it was a bitch. after it was all said and done, i had to get ready to go to work with 0 sleep and a depopped mob that we spent weeks farming pops for. oh well.

gulkeeva, that WoW event sounds absolutely hilarious

Wyrms were a big "dick move" in the day. I loved that 5-6 hour Tiamat that PO killed (after they wiped/hp'd and came back) that dropped nothing, not even a crystal. The amount of emo and the number of them that quit because of it was way too funny.

Man that shit was great. All the locks were using feather fall and killing everyone that thought that they were safe flying above Shat for the duration of the week.
