i still use FB daily just because i get bored at work and it's a good time waster not to mention it's actually a really great way to communicate with people who are out of driving range like old friend and biz acquaintances.

however that being said FB has kind of gotten stale, no real refresh in the years its been around, lot's of annoying groups and ads. even though i can 'ignore' and turn off the things i dont like to see it's still lost its touch on me.

i'm signing up as soon as i get an invite or when it comes out of beta.

While I get your point about Android, and I'd have to see Google+ for myself before going too far out on a limb, at face value it doesn't seem to offer much more than Facebook (stuff like group status updates will almost certainly be added to Facebook as a result of the Google+ announcement) and lacks the raw population numbers that Facebook has. Tech-affluent people like you and me will try it, but will my aunts and uncles who live in the sticks that just got on Facebook a year ago try it? Probably not, or at least not anytime soon.

Also Priran, Google current social network is called Orkut, it's big in Brazil and used in India but that's about it.

really this is all that matters, that's how facebook started, thats how google started, thats how <insert tech company/product here> started. we could broaden the topic to 'how does tech adoption work?' and be having the same convo, as thats all we're speculating on.

bleeding edgers show up on day1, then base demographic people show up, then the casuals. this is predicated on the product being good (or being marketed correctly). how good is google+ ? how cool is google+ ?

I've seen people exclude others from seeing a certain status update to set up a surprise party. IDK how they did it though, never tried.

If you go into your friends list you can create "lists" basically its a group like in Win Server 2003, you can exclude or include these groups in certain privacy settings.

For example if I wanted to make it so much co workers couldn't see my phone number for some reason I would go into privacy hit custom then scroll down to where it says my phone number, modify the settings select only friends then where it says except type co workers and let it auto complete.

There's no "eventually" to the advertising. Go to the website and take the tour lol. The whole premise is built on advertising around your likes.

That was a given considering Google's business model... but I'm more talking about businesses using Facebook/Twitter to promote themselves and idiots constantly re-tweeting and posting contests/sales/omgclickthissoicanwinanipad/etc.
