Hello, A few friends and I traveled to Manhattan Island, was wondering what are some of the hot spots to go see and do?
How much time do you have? There's literally a billion things to check out. The major ones off the top of my head:
Empire State Building
Ground Zero
Times Square
Yankee Stadium
Broadway plays
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Katz's Deli
and on and on...
You really need to be more specific on what you want to do. You could literally walk down a block in the good parts of Manhattan and find a nice thing to do with friends. Clubs, Broadway, baseball, tons and tons of food places, etc. I don't know if they're still active but tour buses are always nice.
We have till the 8th, We already saw the Yankees destroy the Brewer's and did the Empire State Building last night. Spent a lot of time around Times Square already and will be there plenty more before the end. What is Katz's Deli?
We are trying to do as much as we can, just looking for the things a tourist wouldn't normally know about i guess.
The thing about living in NYC is you dont tend to do the touristy stuff, you kinda take it for granted cause its always there. This weekend avoid Battery park city for the 4rth, unless you like big crowds. Lost of people flock to Battery park to watch the fireworks, and I think every year theres like a million boats docking in the area. Sail boats and shit, looks nice.
fuck Katz get some salmon baggles from Russ & Daughters
governor's island is pretty chill too, iirc they still offer bike rentals for like 20 bucks
I just saw a TED talk about the High Line park, a skyline track turned into a park. How about that?

Katz Deli is a very well known deli. They apparently sell other things there, but if you go you just need to order a sandwich. I prefer Pastrami, but either way just buy a sandwich and make sure you went there hungry cause they are huge. There are alot of other food places worth checking out too though.
Broadway is really something you should take in if you aren't from around here, alot of good shows normally playing. Bronx Zoo is open free on Wednesday now I believe, so can go there with your friends and check it out. The Museum as well, and also this monday on the 4th you can take a train down to Coney Island to the original Nathan's hotdog joint and watch the Hot Dog Eating Contest, tends to be pretty packed and I haven't gone in years but if you're never been probably worth going.
Ground Zero really? lol..
I'll bite my tongue on this one...
Some lesser known stuff:
-Head over to DUMBO (Down under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), has a beautiful park with an amazing view of downtown Manhattan.
-Top of the Rock isn't lesser known but IMO it's much better than Empire State Building. The view is much better IMO since you're looking downtown instead of viewing from it.
-Museum of Natural History rocks.
-Avoid the Elis Island rip off and take a free trip on the Staten Island Ferry.
-Central Park of course. If you get to the Metropolitan Mueseum you can go up to the roof for another great view.
-Bronx Zoo
If you like sightseeing instead of actually 'doing' something there's a ton of unique and historical buildings you can check out.

http://www.storefrontnews.org/ this is a really cool building, nearly the whole side of the building opens up to the sidewalk.

http://www.worldarchitecturemap.org/...-united_states a bit more difficult to read, but a good list nonetheless
oh and Onya on Lex & about E 47th have some bangin' udon, kamatama and bukkakke noodles are the shit
as for pizza goes, i dunno. Artichoke was a pretty tasty spot (they slightly burnt my slice but i like mildly burnt stuff) but i'm sure someone here can rec you a better spot
Red Hook Ball Fields in BK has some goodass Mexican food, they only open on weekends though so act quick. mmmmm the ceviche
Video Games New York has a bunch of rare shit if you wanna go window shopping
Why the hell would anyone go to ground zero? Seriously, there is NOTHING there
Empire state building is a ripoff to, only good thing about it is the high view, the ride in there sucks ass now compared to years ago
Id still recommend visiting Ground Zero regardless of its status today. Just walk by or something.
Check out Coney Island, the Brooklyn and Bronx Botanical Gardens (the Bronx one is directly across from the Zoo).
Fuck going to beach really, most of the ones in NYC are filthy.
The Guggenheim, Intrepid, Brooklyn Bridge, St. Patricks are also good places to check out. You could also try out the Circle Line cruise or it's speedboat equivalent.
If you're a museum kinda person, that alone can eat up days and days of sightseeing.
Go have a bagel at Absolute Bagels, on Broadway between 108th and 107th on the north bound side. Rated the best bagels in the city, and they are AMAZING.
the Guggenheim is pretty neat to go to if your in to the super arty stuff.
Gramaldi's Pizza under the Brooklyn bridge is nice (in fact walk the bridge you get a great view)
If you know people try to hit up a roof top party, Avoid the clubs unless you want to waste money.
The sex museum is fun too.
why? its a glorified construction site
