Yeah I've played wow for 7 years now, and have tried pretty much every major mmo that has been released (Aion, SWTOR, etc etc), and Tera is just on such a different level comparatively. It is basically what you crave for after wow, even after killing everything that it has to offer on the hardest difficulty in wow, Tera just feels so much more -engaging- and involved. Its really refreshing!
@ Bot discusion:
During my JP OBT time, I recorded some bots farming around. There were even bots as early as the island of dawn, so the problem was pretty much a plague. EME claims to have that Crisp system to monitor and flag accounts automaticaly and I would assume they'll be on top of this, as it's one of the biggest deterents for players on our side. The irony is that we also have one of the biggest cheating player bases.
Regardless, this is exactly my number one concern with Frogster. We don't know if the same systems will be used or if they'll do the same work we expect from EME. If there's one way that TERA EU can fail, it's this one. Fingers crossed.
Wondering what are the best crystals for sorcerers to be using
Furious Hexage
Chance to inflict an additional 6.7% damage to enemies when below 50% HP
Q: Does this kicks in when you yourself is below 50% right? like how FF11's blm 50 ring worked..
Forceful Hexage
Critical attacks will increase your strength when attacking opponents from the rear.
Q: How does "str" play into mage dd? seeing "str" with a FF mindset = mele onry
Savage Hexage
Critical attacks do an additional +0.84 times damage when attacking from the rear.
Q: Does this count towards bosses too? Each crystal is pretty specific about minions, monsters, boss.
Q2: And are ALL BAMS bosses? or just World Boss/Dungeon Bosses? or do Dungeon NMS like Duke/Duchess count as "Bosses/Mini Bosses"
While i was doing dungeon runs, during dungeon clearing with 1 setup of crystals for general mobs. Then when got to a boss, would switch out a few crystals. for the crit + and "additional to boss" hope i was doing something right.
I wasn't confused per-say. But i was wondering about the "extra dmg to prone and extra dmg to knock down" me and my guildmates came to the conclusion.
Prone = staggered/confused/on a knee
Knockdown = actually on the ground on their backs/stomach animation
Some of this may seem silly and self explanatory but i just curious.. at 5:20am
1) correct
2) you get an STR buff (I forget how long it lasts, maybe 10seconds or so?) 1STR = +.5% attack
3) there's 2 types, 1 is rear crit only crystal, which works on any mob, aswell as specific rear crit regular/boss/minion
4) not all bosses are BAMs, anything with hate circle(orange circle) = BAM/boss crystals, some are large size but are actually classed as regular crystals (in this case, duke/duchess are just regulars in this instance, as they don't have hate circles) and yes everyone should be switching crystals between bosses/regulars, that's the equivalent of not using gear swaps for WS in FFXI
prone I think you're right, I don't remember ever seeing that stat in KTERA though (that's not to say it isn't there though, wasn't a stat anyone focused on though), but yea mobs slightly move around/spin around, starts at around 30% or less HP (I think)
knocked down is a character physically knocking them down which can happen at any % and animations are slightly different between knocked down and fatigued, though some are slightly similar
Related to the crystals post, what is considered striking from the rear? Is it the 180 degrees behind them or a smaller come?
It's pretty damn big. 180 from where you're standing is about right. Nuking behind an enemy from in front of him doesn't count though.
Ok thanks. Good to know. Btw, I know a lancer can block an AOE launched from in front even if it lands behind him. If someone is standing behind him for blocking, does he get protection too even if the aoe is centered behind the person hiding behind the lancer?
"2) you get an STR buff (I forget how long it lasts, maybe 10seconds or so?) 1STR = +.5% attack"
Woot! Now I know what STR does :D
Yeah, it was a bit confusing. Since STR applies to both PATK and MATK, they probably should have just call it Attack Power or ATK.
I think it's cool once you're used to it, and almost less confusing. If everything applies do your damage output, then you can't possibly wear gear that does nothing for you :D...
Oh, I agree. I just heard a lot of people asking where the INT stat was for casters.
Even if EME goes after botters and RMT, what can they realistically do to stop them? FFXI created an entire "task force" and has been mass banning accounts for years but the problem is still there. FFXIV tried with the whole client side check back system and you had the horrible server lag issues. The playerbase is the problem when it comes to cheating nothing a company can really do about it.
@Gulkeeva, I'm curious, with as gorgeous as TERA is are you going to start putting TERA pics in your sig?
^ I'm not sure anyone can totally stop botting but if EME keeps on top of removing them best they can, at least people won't see the same bot names. This, in theory, means botters are buying new copies to continue, meaning EME profits from continued bot stubborness to return over and over.
I'd still rather have a task force to go after them and ban them than have maplestory's mess of hacking...
No doubt, anti-bot/account fraud activity is expensive, but aside from the logistics of tracking where currency is going and what characters handle it, the actual botting activity is extremely easy to spot and the easiest way to prevent the problem from becoming unmanageable. The dead give away is exactly how mathematical bots are: always using exact, straight lines to get to the next mob, same skill spam patterns, little movement other than going to the next mob, specific rest spot when waiting for re-spawns. It's a necessary evil to combat this stuff since it has such a direct affect not only on the game, but EME's bottom line, due to fraud issues, and EME has at made effort in putting forward their understanding of the problem, though not what specifically they would do. Still hoping they really are aggressive about this stuff, and given reported customer service experiences, it seems a likely scenario.
It may only be a matter of time: http://www.googlefight.com/index.php...+Final+Fantasy
When considering botting and cheating, there's two important differences in my view:
1- Farming / RMT related activities. Here we are talking about accounts that use automated gameplay, many times mixed with actual in game cheating, to generate the virtual goods and later sell them or for personal use.
2- Player cheats. In this cathegory we have people using in-game cheats that disrupt gameplay in a way that benefits the player directly. For example: flying, teleporting, channel swaping even under combat, animation hacks to attack faster, etc.
From my point of view, the second one is what destroys communities. The first one, RMT-related activities create imbalance within the players, but they don't disrupt your gameplay directly. Ofcourse, this was very much different in FFXI because RMT were literaly dominating zones meant for players (the debacle at sky was one of the most horrible things an MMO could give to their players).
However, the second kind directly destroys gameplay. You fight players and they start using tactics that are impossible to combat unless you also cheat yourself. This simply ruins everything as you no longer can compete even if you decide to play fair.
Finaly, cheating is sometimes used to "legaly" over gear via means that wouldn't be possible otherwise like skipping all the monsters on an instance, reaching the final boss and killing it behind a wall, etc.
For the curious, look for AionScript videos in youtube. This is the current state of Aion:
If TERA reaches this point, it's over.
