Hmm that scroll idea seems like a pretty valid attempt. Will have to see how it fleshes out. It sounds strange and I could see something like that giving even more of an incentive to bot/farm gold so you can buy free game time and never have to pay for the game.
Unless i'm getting that wrong.
Ain't no crying hear; just pointing out the game isn't even released and people are figuring out how to modify the game for their own enjoyment, which is exactly the extension, and justification, people use for cheats/hacks. My beaf is RMT and malicious intentions, not how someone want's to view their 0's and 1's.
Dat mods only effect my enjoyment Hacks and botting effect everyone, either directly or indirectly. That is a significant difference.
Dat swapping CAN be used to cheat, yes(swapping chests for other things to be able to tell a real one from a fake one -before it was fixed- etc)... but I do not consider dat swapping to be a cheat or hack. I have no problem with it what so ever, as long as it is used only for cosmetics. I use to do it in FFXI all the time. I changed armor, hairstyles, mob skins, etc to things that were more appealing or higher quality.
To even compare the thought processes of people who dat swap and using hack/cheat programs is absurd. Just because they use the same "justifications" really. They are two completely different spectrums that impact the game in two very different ways.
I'll be all over dat mods for TERA if there are more than just nudes and the original, more revealing, outfits. I'd love me a nice gothic lolita outfit for my Elin.
I don't understand how buying game time with in game currency would deter RMT. If items are priced to the point it takes people several hours/days/months of farming to afford there would still be an incentive to make a RMT purchase.
I never played EVE so I can't comment on how it worked in that game.
That's why if done right, chronoscrolls will be at or close to RMT prices. If you need gold fast, you simply buy scrolls and sell them for whatever the going gold price is. You know it's going to be tied directly to RMT prices eventually.
So you can buy scrolls for cash and then sell them on the AH?
Whether you can sell them in the AH or not IDK, but that is the entire point of chronoscrolls, yes.
How will that deter people from botting though? It seems like it would in all likely hood increase it. If people can get free game time by buying gametime scrolls, then they will bot as much as they can to make as much money as they can to purchase said scrolls.
Granted it wont be as bad as asian RMT farming/botting 24/7/365. But it seems like it still wouldn't deter it too much.
Individual players are unlikely to setup large scale botting operations. That's what RMT does. So it should curb botting by a large amount.
Yup. If people decide to bot for gold to help their own cause, they're going to do it regardless of chronoscrolls and RMT. That's not what they're targeting though. Might as well create a way to counter illegal RMTing, even if it is just a small portion of it, and this is it.
As for the botting as much as possible to make massive gold for chronoscrolls ; I doubt it, considering the fact that the chronoscroll itself is the same price as only a single month worth of TERA.

Hail, and well met!
We will be officially creating a PvE roleplay server, Celestial Hills. Below are more details that were not outlined in our blog and answers to some of your questions. This information outlines what we are working on but this is not yet final. Please share your constructive feedback below and we will work on making your TERA RP experience better.
Roleplay Server Rules
tl;dr - Don’t be a RP troll; find another server
En Masse is excited to bring a dedicated roleplay server to TERA. To help promote and keep an immersive environment, our roleplay servers will have stricter guidelines for certain aspects of gameplay. In addition to our standard rules of conduct; we’ve outlined RP specific guidelines below. Violations of RP rules can result in character silences, suspensions, and end in account termination.
Don’t Troll
Roleplaying is a preference of game play that En Masse wants to promote for TERA. Like any preference, there are those that enjoy it and those that do not. If roleplaying is not your style then don’t play on a RP server.
Out of Character Chat -- Harassment
Out of Character Chat (OOC): It goes without saying, but avoid out of character chat on the role play server. We realize this might be difficult at all times, and an occasional slip will happen. While we won’t be actively monitoring out of character chat, if we receive player reports of harassment or blatant disregard for OOC we will take action.
Naming Conventions
What types of names are off-limits?
# Names that are Leet or dudespeak
Pwny.For.Hire, Umad.Bro
# Sentences for names
Iamthe.Destroyerofworlds, Dontturnaround
# Pop-culture or real world names that don’t fit in the world of TERA
Bieber.The.Young, George.Washington
# Plus all the other names we already do not allow.
Swearing, harassment, racism, En Masse staff names, etc.
FAQ
How many RP servers will there be?
# Initially there will be one server, Celestial Hills. If the need for another server arises as we move to open beta and eventually launch, we'll add additional roleplay servers.
Will the server name(s) be identified as “roleplay” in the TERA server list?
# Yes, we will be either adding RP or Roleplay to the server name to distinguish it as a Roleplay server.
Will the first roleplay server be PvP or PVE?
# Celestial Hills will be a PvE server.
Will there be support for the roleplay server(s)?
# Our support staff wants nothing more than to ensure the best overall experience to all of our players. This server will be fully supported just as much as a non-roleplay server.
Will you be monitoring names on the roleplay server(s)?
# As mentioned in the blog article, we are proposing to support a “name review” 60 days after launch for our roleplay server or servers.
I reported a non-roleplay name but the support team didn’t change it.
# Every report is reviewed, but this is a very difficult policy to enforce because by nature it is based upon opinion. There will be obvious cases but there will be not-so-obvious cases as well. This said, we will do our best to meet and maintain the spirit of roleplay.
What about talking out of character in general chat?
# We do not plan to monitor out of character chat. If someone is using Out of Character
(OOC) chat to continually harass, we’ll boot them from the game.
We need /emote and the ability to walk!
# We currently have /emotes in TERA and we are working on a list of game features to enhance your roleplay experience. Just like all game feedback we are evaluating and prioritizing getting it in the game.
Please share your constructive feedback below and we will work on making your TERA roleplay experience better. We are working on implementing guild vs guild to the PvE servers which should help satisfy the PvP need for roleplayers.
Celestial Hills will make it's debut for the early character creation that will happen before open beta and head start. Basically as soon as you can make a character that will not be wiped you will be able to start on this server. You will not see it during our closed beta tests.
I lost my roleplayer vein long ago (at least through video games. Table top is still awesome), but that's a great thing from EME.
I wish I didn't have to rely on a thirdparty to actualy get a decent lattency. Oh BHS, Y U NO MAKE EME EU?!
Also, according to a guild mate, the CBT 3 level cap will be 32, just as I thought. I'm assuming we get the entire southern desert area(27-30) and beginner Castanica area(30-32), which includes 2 open dungeons ranging from levels 30-33. In KTERA, the blue reward items from the story line rivaled gold 27s, but they are level 33, so we might not see them.
Edit; Late as shit on that level cap info. My bad.
CBT3 @ 32, so would it be sensible to expect CBT4 @ 37 and CBT5 @ 42? Is there anything interesting at those level gaps to warrant a cap?
On another note, having a blast with the Manor instance. The final boss was silly hard with my party of horribly geared people (greens and lv22 weapons!) and a warrior tank. Still, managed (somehow...) and all three runs we did were pretty fun. Best part is that gear at least drops, which is a nice touch when you are used to the empty pools of XI and Aion
Why are you assuming 37 and 42?
22 > 27 = +5
27 > 32 = +5
So it's a logical assumption.
