Played Archer and Slayer to mid 20s (which I know isn't all that high), and I like both, but want to ask about two things I noticed

    MP
    • Archer's MP naturally regenerates, but the skills generate less MP, meaning you'd have to auto attack (or Rapid Shot more often) in long fights
    • Slayer's MP decays naturally, but the skills generate more, so once you're going, you don't have to auto attack much

    Damage
    • Archer does less damage against trash because it's harder to line up mobs, but does more damage against bosses, because you don't need to chase it around and lose DPS
    • Slayer does more damage against trash mobs because of arcs, but spends a lot of time running around chasing bosses

SB was the only dungeon I did, so the observations above are based on that. Are both points true for the classes in general, or will they change as I level?

Thinking of going axe-chick for retail, honestly. I was going to pick a ranged class, as I'd get annoyed with having to chase the mob down all the time, like I did on slayer, but now I think I'd rather have the ability to do so much damage at once that the mob turns to look at me, and actually be able to block a hit or two before someone else pulls it off. Kinda reminds me of playing Drg back in XI after dropping a 2k penta on something's back.

Got entrance to this Beta from redacted, Played it for a day or two. I only hit 23, But i thoroughly enjoyed it.

I only had 1 small complaint. I'm personally a fan of item systems being handled like FFXI, with literally dozens if not hundreds of unique weapons/armor each with varying stats and uses for different situations. Unlike Tera and its "1 Weapon of White, Maybe Green, Blue, or Orange, For Levels 5, 10, 15, 20 etc" which to me feels boring, lazy, and unimaginative. If they're going to go the path of Identifying armor/weapons, They could at least step it up to Diablo II or Borderlands or any other decade+ old game with this type of White/green/blue/orange system in place, where weapons actually vary and have uniqueness amongst them even if they're the same level or general item.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by games that handle weapon/armor systems in a fun way. I know in those games, while some weapons are obviously better and near the end a lot of the armor becomes staple, and people blend together... I just wish there was more variety in the weaponry and armor other than "Hit harder" and "More Defense". Maybe I'm missing it, Or maybe I didn't see as much as i could, But it seemed like every weapon and armor, Common/uncommon/etc, all it offered was a slightly higher attack or defense, and maybe a small bonus like 0.5% More damage to Minions. So theres no real variety amongst players, They'll all end up with the same weapon for each level range, and not because the other stuff sucks, but because theres absolutely no choice, and only 1-2 good weapons exist for any given level range.

I admit, I couldn't find a comprehensive list of weapons, So I may be missing some things, And I'll admit I'm wrong if it turns out I am. But its not even a huge problem, and That was my only real complaint, It feels like a lot of MMOs and some not-so-big MMO's (Like Dragon's Nest) are taking that path now adays. and its not even a huge glaring problem i can't overcome, Overall, thats really the only flaw i found with it.

That aside, again, I really loved this game. the combat was fun, I played Slayer. I enjoyed the MIssion/quests even though i read and listened to none of them, But i had a hell of a lot of fun beating the big baddies, Solo'd the first dungeon a lone, Picked up some friends for that Shadow something Mission. It was just over-all a very enjoyable game. Who Knows if I'll buy it, But its looking good. I actually was upset my Character was going Boom... Hopefully if i buy the game, my name will be there still, that's almost a deal breaker for me lol. So in case some of you aren't getting it by this point. I love the game, i only had that one complaint, Which isn't a huge deal breaker for me, Just makes the game feel a little stale.

Later on in the game weapons do more than just damage.

    1) you can customize the additional effects via crystals
    2) The later weapons actually have different effects if they are blue tier or greater
    3) The identified gear have different bonuses if you enchant them.

The way your post sounds like you just made it off dawn of island as you can't solo the dungeon after that one. There are other gears that are craftable as well that have different effects.

Am I crazy or does this game feel way too similar to Aion though? The crafting system is virtually plagiarized.
Way I see it, this is a Korean MMO and they are all kinda similar in the same way most western MMOs resemble WoW.

I typed out something long, And while typing, it randomly decided to highlight and delete every damn word. Son of a B*tch. Anyway, I'll try to retype it... Ahem.

I can't consider a System with all the excitement and variety of Evolith to be a redeeming quality in lackluster weapon/armor quality/quantity. I guess you could say, This is probably only a problem I'll experience early in the game. I'm sure when you hit Endgame, theres more than 1 White, Green, Blue, and Orange weapon for the Level range they disperse at (12, 17, 22, etc etc). i just didn't happen to notice/see any because i didn't get very far. This entire very minor issue i had probably completely alleviates itself once end-game strolls around, and weapons become more varied at base, and Crystals only expand on their variances.

I can assume you played a lot so i want to ask you, At level cap, How many different weapons are there for each class? Like, Say you're a level 50(I think thats the cap) Slayer, How many Greatswords are there to chose from? Is it still only just 1 White, Green, Blue, and Orange weapon? Or are theres 3-4 Different types each with a different bonus? I notice a lot of Charms you get increase your Strength or what have you for a good period of time, But i also noticed none of the Armor or weapon i ever got or saw on the AH seemed to have visible stat bonuses like that. No armor or weapon I ran across boosted my Strength. I did find a ring or necklace or two that enhanced my Damage, which i found nice, But like Dragon nest, They all just feel the same but a little upgraded.

For instance, I killed this Spider NM-thing with a few friends, got some Spiderstrand Necklace or some crap, It was like a +1 of the Generic necklace i already had, with a few extra Damage, Which i later replaced with another Necklace i don't even recall getting which was just a +1 of the Spidernecklace, about 10-20 more HP, and 1-2 More Bonus damage. he armor and Neck/Ear/Rings all feel like well... Ranged Accuracy rings in FFXI. They have another one every few levels thats the exact same thing as the last one, Except a little better, and that to me feels boring.

I guess i should come out and say it again because I know how short some peoples attention span can be, I have a strong feeling this problem alleviates itself after a certain point in the game, and weapons/armor/neck/ear/rings all eventually have some unique ones thrown into the bunch that truly stand out as must-have-armor that you want to strive for. I suppose i look at an MMO as something that I should enjoy, with a reason to continue enjoying it. When i look at things to do in Tera, I felt underwhelmed. It was like, Sure i can go for this sword, but then again i can just buy it off the AH since its the only sword that exists for this level, so its the only sword that will ever drop from this level range, so its under-cut on the AH like mad.

It just leaves me with a bad taste when i look at weapons/armor and see generic clones and +1s of the previous weapon/armor with no real variety or reason to upgrade other than 3 more base damage, and 1 possibly more crystal slots. It feels lazy to leave any sort of customization or variances to the playerbase. Its like they gave us a Stick and some diamonds to glue to it, and said "Make it unique yourself" instead of putting in any work to make their own weapons and armor unique. I love the customization/Uniqueness they give us and allow us to have and play with, but i'm a little turned off by the lack of customization they put down themselves before hand.

I know i've said it before, I just can't help but repeat myself. This small issue of mine won't stop me from buying the game, As my issue is only because i experienced so little the game has to offer. I know if i get a lot more indepth in it (Like I may for Open Beta, If I pre-order and get full access to the Head-Start), I'll probably forget this problem, because the game is fun enough to keep my attention. I like the combat, I like the moves/combos, I enjoy taking down big baddies, Its all really fun.

As i side note, I never got to dabble in crafting. I tried for a bit, But ran out of ore and got complacent when i went mining and just ended up killing stuff.

The noticeable things I remember is damage vs various monster types and how much additional hate I would generate as a Lancer. I think there might have been a few with crits and etc,
I can't tell you too much more other than that because I was playing in a korean client and reading was hard <_<

The higher levels have more armor choices something along the lines of craftable, quest, and drop armor with different stats but they were similar in a few "staple" buffs for each weapon / armor class. A lot of things do seem like just upgrades of each other

So I played warrior quite a bit this weekend, got it to 30 but otherwise I think I learned a lot about it.

Warrior is very interesting as a tank. You have to really know the enemy, their telegraphs (which can be hard to read), your own abilities/timers and what you're doing. It was frustrating when you use an ability like a second too late and take damage, which is really disheartening (and a part of me blames myself and a part blames latency). But I'm glad to see abilities such as this. Boss in SM FUCKED me hard, between keeping yourself alive and keeping the bosses hate on you I really like the difficulty of warrior tanking, though it's easy to see why Lancer is just much more solid. I wanna see some good warrior tanks in action now.

In terms of dealing damage, it doesn't feel like Warrior has a lot going on compared to pure DPS classes, but I never got much chance to do it as I was tanking pretty much everything. It wasn't until I got to SM that I realised the shit that had come before it was just a joke.

The first BAM to really give me problems tanking as a Slayer was this thing (and the spiders outside SM, those are crazy). It kept doing this swipe attack that I had so much trouble reading. Eventualy though you learn the moves and figure a good way to fight the monster. That's exactly why TERA is so neat: you actualy become better after a couple fights, even if you don't upgrade your gear.

So anyway, I know no one cares about EU, yadda yadda, but I've been reviewing the schedule for the US side and aparently we are going to have TERA overload starting this next weekend.

We have CBT5 from friday to sunday included, then OBT starting the same day as you guys on thursday to tuesday and finaly headstart next saturday.

Guess this thing is finaly starting for real!

Yeah, what I like about TERA is that is that you really need to learn the enemies. I'm tempted to go through first as a mystic, but shit I like dealing with warrior. Took me 2 deaths to figure out last boss in SM, afterwards it got a lot better (but I still got hit a few times). It can be overwhelming learning a boss, keeping hate and staying alive. But that's what I like about it.

My healers always say that healing an elin warrior is the worst thing they've ever done lol. Don't blame them.

I played as a dps warrior this last beta and it's fun as hell. It's slow around 26-27 where all you have is Rain of Blows and pounce along with combative strike..and almost all your other moves draw aggro so using them isn't always a great idea. But at 28 you get Blade Draw and traverse cut coupled with combative strike and you can chain the ever living fuck into bosses and monsters. I loved doing combative strike > Traverse > Blade draw > pounce > rain of blows and just spazzing out while doing a ton of crits. All the debuffs you put on a boss too definately tend to show, as I was grouping with a beserker and sorc and we were laying into the boss of SM at lvl 28 extremely hard, almost as fast as when I was on my slayer at 32 in the last CBT.

I can only imagine when you get backstab and riposte(or w/e its called) it becomes even more fun. Slayer to me just seemed to get really boring, although at lvl 38 I did love having Overhand Strike and Heart strike reset their cooldowns 4-5 times in a row as I just sat there and machine gunned them into a boss.

I also found that socketing 3 mp regen and 3 hp regen crytals is the way to go while soloing as a warrior. That coupled with the hp glyph for rain of blows and you can just burn through quests.

I think I said it somewhere earlier in the thread but its not the armor, but the animations that I like better. I got tired of the high elf's frilly run animation, especially considering you see it so often. The Castanic has a more aggressive set of animations to her, kind of like the difference between a Mithra and a Elvaan Female in XI. If I have to choose between a "fierce-yet-sexy" chick and a "noble and refined" chick, I'll always pick the former, because their animations are always more suited towards combat.

If I ever roll a priest, it'll probably be a high elf.

The biggest thing though, and possibly a flaw for warrior is... when a mob enrages, the abilities go off faster, and you only got like 2? evade abilities... so you need to run around. The bonus boss at Lv 38 CR instance will really have you running to survive, which isn't too good for other melee haha.

As for a lancer or zerker though.... once you done the boss so many times (think I did the bosses in cr about 60+ times over the weekend) you pretty much take 0 damage for boss fights using the "block" mechanic.

If only.. my axe ever dropped ;/

This all hearsay but from what I've read, Warriors are actually pretty good in the DPS department in KTera atm (even though the combo system hasn't been introduced yet). Something along the lines of Sorce/Slayer -> Warrior -> Zerker/Archer. Maybe someone that plays KTera can give a more in depth answer.

I'm probably going to be playing a Castanic Sorcerer for retail. I had the most fun soloing BAMs on the Sorce, moreso than on my Slayer or Zerker.

    Spoiler: show
    Dat Castanic cast animation

What I've been hearing from multiple sources is that as the classes level, they interchange which classes outdamage others. Berserker is solid from start to end. Sorceress is average for a while, but from 48 onward it reigns supreme. Slayer is also solid all around, but seems to taper off at higher levels. Warrior is sub-par on damage, but gets improved abilities along the way, along with debuffs, then becomes a solid choice at high levels. Overall at endgame Sorc ~> Berserker / Warrior ~> Slayer ~> Archer. I will point out though, that this hierarchy isn't really important due to skill being the most important factor in this game. This is NOT my opinion, just impressions from KR-Tera players.

I will say that for me, Warrior became more fun after 28, though it still lacks the farming power of Zerk/Slayer. I felt more at home in instances and tanking BAMs than I did soloing, due to HP regen being so low. Having a few HP regen crystals helped immensely while soloing, but was worthless when I had a healer. Also, when soloing, its really hard to find an instance of an enemy being alone. They're almost always in pairs or leader/minion groups. So hard to dodge two enemies at once.

Once I joined a group and put on some crit crystals, I felt more up to par damage-wise. I was pretty happy with my 21k crit with Blade Draw. Sure, it doesn't compare with Zerks or Slayers, but I didn't feel worthless anymore. And I hear it only gets better as the levels rise.

I'll probably run Zerker in retail though.

On a side note with tanking, is it worth using the hate gaining abilities every time they're available? Because I noticed certain abilities seem to redirect hate instantly, which I thought was good but made me wonder if they were worth using even if you had hate.

When I used taunt off cooldown I never lost threat. When I used taunt mostly only when I needed it, I would lose threat frequently. Personally, I use it whenever possible now. Makes things easier for me =x
