Unbelievable that they didn't push up more dungeons to 60 cap but actually neutered a few to lower level, which we'll fly by. Such a great swathe of endgame content!...
Actually, I just realized what the cap will be great for; farming up guild tokens to level your guilds up to guild house level. Turn them all in, come release day and enjoy the perks.
btw noticed something
When finished downloading the patch and in "installing phase"
theres a new folder inside your Tera folder it holds the patch files. You can copy that folder to avoid having to re-download
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97.../game_7to8.jpg
copy/paste that saves you from re-downloading. IDK if its the patch itself but im still getting errors. (this just saves me 2hrs and bandwidth from re-downloading)
Would it be worth it to rush to cap and just farm the manor? Isn't all that gear going to become useless once the cap is raised? Or do you farm it to use the gear for enchanting at 60?
Also, is there a decent leveling guide or some leveling advice somewhere? It took me the last 2 betas to get my 1st character to 38. Is it best to stay in a group or can you level that fast solo?
If you have a copy of your game folder, patched up through the beginning of CTB5, remove everything under your TERA folder, then replace them with the backup copy. When I did this, the client patched just fine, or so it says, and I have the Play button available. I also had a copy of the Game_7-8 that had about 98% of the patch files, so the patch file check/update took only a few seconds. The patching client really doesn't like the Elin Mod pack or the Korean/JP voice/CS mod files, so a clean, original instal/patched copy is a great idea here. Aside from that, you may need to un-install/re-install the client. After having to do this for FFXI and WoW, back in the day, I always make a backup, of my game install folders, just in case patch clients have complete DERPS for BRAINS.
The Level cap gear will be useless for lvl 60 enchanting; use the time to make your next leveling bout that much faster, with the +5-6 gear you'll have farmed up, or level an alt, or farm guild tokens; can probably do the tokens while you farm manor content/BAMS.
As for leveling, there's no real guide out there; if you're not doing BAMs or dungeon farming, you're doing repeatable quests or just clearing out each zones quests. Each zone leads you to the next hub, which, when you clear the last hub, you're usually dinging your next story quest to take you to the next area of leveling.
I plan to play with the /a/ group during the dead time when nothing's going on on our server and I'm awake, so this works out; with 4+ days of a 32 cap, I can probably get my main on this server and my main on that server up to cap.
Hit 32 cap, farm up tokens for delicious guild perks, powergrind some gathering and craft skills. Beats the shit out of hurr SM runs for gear that'll be outdated the first day of launch.
I completely forgot about gathering skills. Was one of the things I really want to do in this game but wanted to wait for retail. Now is that chance!
Theirs a 1,2,3,4,5 thing on the right side of the character gear screen, changing the number instant changes your gear set.
Unsure if you can hotkey those changes.
and about making the alts, the best part of the head start is having all those progress tokens farmed and crafts leveled, especially alchemy... + attack haste scrolls and stuff O_o
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't change gear/crystals/whatever while you're in combat. I can't see any incentive to run out of combat, switch gear/gems and run back in unless you're switching from PvE to PvP gear because someone jumped you?
Its not viable since you can only change gears out of combat. Better if you start doing that at cap, where as low levels there's no need of many sets of gear/crystals.
Pretty much DD: rear crit dmg vs bam/rear crit dmg vs mobs/rear crit when enraged and increase crit chance. And for armor crystals either HP + or HP regen.
Healers: MP regen crystals. Dmg -% vs bams (works for lancers too)
Worked well for me 20-38 =)
Pretty sure I saw them as Shift+1-5. Never really tried the gear swapping out in the beta though.
edit: The only real use I can see for the gear swapping is making sets for bosses, normal enemies, pvp, etc. Might just be gem swapping though for doing more damage depending on what you're fighting or maybe entire gear sets if you like being as good as possible on everything.
I have my gear shortcuts setup as:
1 - Duel
2 - Group PvP
3 - BAM Solo
4 - Normal Dungeon Mobs
5 - Dungeon Boss
And yea, there really isn't any point in switching it out other than PvE since you can't do that in combat.
So the official forums are filled with rage and cries about level cap during OBT and headstart. Honestly, I find myself so not caring about all this that I can't even start to comprehend the problem. Whatever, I'm here for the fun I guess.
About gathering: do it in groups, it's easier to gather nodes of higher skill requirement and it gives a lot more materials.
About gear swaps: they are indeed limited to "out of fight", but that doesn't mean you can't swap them while fighting a monster. I've done enough lowmaning without a healer to know that every little extra HP counts and swaping gear after you are forced to revert to kitting helps. You can get HP regen and movement speed crystals this way for example.
Same applies in pvp if your oponent is running away and yuo can't catch him, or if you need to change your strategy at some point or another.
It's obviously not as simple as in XI, but it can be done.
The main problem you'll face with this on-the-fly gear swaping is equipment space, as the system actualy seems to rely on some kind of scripting that uses the bag space and equip functions. In other words, it seems to unequip -> equip -> unequip etc, instead of actual swaping of objects, which can lead to problems unless you have enough free slots in your bag.
And finaly, remaking your equipment sets as you level and acquire new gear is somewhat annoying, so it's more a closer to level cap kind of thing in my mind.
