As long as I don't lose my name, I don't care.
As long as I don't lose my name, I don't care.
I know the chances of me losing names for at least 4 of my characters is pretty much 100%... but they did say that whoever logs in first gets the name on a first come first serve basis... either way I think I'm screwed and will probably be pissed off on the 18th.
What I'm saying is make a quick alt of each on vot, fv, and bc. Then you're set, and delete them whenever it is you log in after the transfer.
A few clicks to a pre built chat and name input each, and most time consumption is switching between the server selection screen.
Not looking forward to server merge... VOT's nexus is already laggy enough as is... >.>
My MS is at like 200's, then when the zergs merge is like near 400ms and 1-2 fps, and server taking like 10+ seconds to respond to anything you mash on the keyboard...
fuck me, with the ammount of idiots on VOT i dont wanna go there...most of the pugs ive been with with vot they do whatever the fuck they want.
Yeah, mega troll/lag server or gtfo.
Simply not bothering with any more korean games after I put this one down.
I still love this game to pieces, but I hear your sentiment loud and clear. I too have been feeling like this. My friends and I will continue to have a blast w/Tera but I'll prob steer us clear of future Korean MMOs simply because of the struggles and other stuff they end up facing here state side.
"How do we fix cross-server instance lag? Well, let's just merge them all into one server, should fix it!"
Honestly though, with the channel system built into the game, I questioned why the game didn't involve 'mega servers' from the get go. Nexus will be a problem though, and I'm taking it PVP & PVE servers still can't queue with one another for dungeons.
I don't understand their wording for inactive characters. Is it saying my guys are all fine, but if I reactive, I have a 30-day grace period to sort my shit out?
Don't give up on South Korean games just yet! Just don't fall in love with them. I played Blade & Soul CBT and OBT and had a blast with my Lyn Summoner, like the one I have in my signature. I love the graphics, the animations, the music, and supposedly the story is very good. The Lyn race is so adorable. I also tried ArcheAge CBT5 and had fun as well; the game reminded me of FFXI.
The only thing that worries me about NCSoft games is that they love to close down MMO games once they go down a certain level of “expectation” or due to licensing issues (especially in the West). They did that this week with the announcement of closing City of Heroes this November. Very sad, seems they had a pretty good community to boot.
I wish MMO games had the stability of online friends and guilds/communities like the games released prior to 2005, but chances are that may never happen again. I would just thread cautiously. Play the games you like, if you find a certain MMORPG that you enjoy doesn't have a mass exodus in 3 or so months... consider it a bonus. If it does, then oh well.
One of my biggest gripes about the game is how they handled the whole cash shop fiasco. It "seems" to always be in the 3 top hot topic threads. I gave some examples on how every single MMORPG released from 2006 till now that currently runs as a strictly P2P business model does not need a cash shop. Those companies instead add these items through endgame events or through holiday/special/seasonal events.
It seems that BHS needed the cash shop "just" to scrape by. I even gave the example of how Guild Wars 2 cosmetics are in almost every case much cheaper than TERA. They use an account-wide bound system rather than per character. They also sell some stuff as "sets" which includes the headpiece and "silly" weapon as a package, much cheaper than TERA that sells these things individually.
I know the lag will be pretty brutal for the first week or so, but they had no other choice. Here is what Minea said (part):
I. Folks, the reason we've come to this decision have been noted in Chager's letter and they are not to save operational costs. It also notes that how we've come to the decision is by looking at the statistics such as data on in-game economy and availability of items people need to advance in game content.
II. Guys, as Chager mentioned in his Producer's Letter, we looked at the metrics and came to the conclusion that this will provide a positive boost to create healthy economy and game experience.
In so many words (and cutting out the PR) they are pretty much telling us that they just don't have enough people to warrant having more than 1 PVE and 1 PVP server. They were nice enough to keep Celestial Hills since it is a Role Playing server and it has its own rule set. I don't think they are too strict about it though.
DragonFall is either the most populated server or the 2nd most populated server overall. And even then, it feels like a ghost town when it isn't Friday/Saturday evenings. The teens and the 20's aren't so much of a problem. The problem lies between the mid 30's up to the mid 50's. It can take hours just to form a party to level up in either quests or BAM quests.
They need to make a bigger incentive for folks to party up in those level ranges outisde of dungeon runs. Solo is more or less efficient for most classes to get to 60, but they need to inject something so people "want" to party up. It is an MMO after all.
One the main reasons ya don't see too many 44->57 is because the lvling curve on mobs gets pretty rough. Not so much as a steady lvling curve like it was from 10->30. Lv 50->57 was petty brutal solo on priest and lancer O_o
As for dungeon ques, never really bothered me that I'd see ques from 1->5 hours since I'm lvling or other things, like catching up on anime or updating the imageboard, while having tera in the background (I would love it though if tera had sound while in background).
Vot Seems decently populated, I see at least 1-2 people outside of towns every few min, and usually about 5+ people wondering a town no matter the lvl, any day of the week.
Prices on stuff doesn't seem bad, although the monthly tera scrolls are slowly going up to 2K gold again.
I would also assume they reason for them merging servers is because if people play it right someone can make too much fucking money off of switching servers to abuse the market.
The first month of this is going to suck, no doubt. I think in the long run it will be okay, even though GvGs all the fucking time and more people to PK is going to be so fucking stupid.
2 PVP, 2 PVE servers (plus the RP), and most of the backlash would be curtailed. Refund or credit for public relations sake anyone who payed for a name change ticket recently.
OBT names ever get purged?
Spoiler: show
Most all of the concern is over naming problems. I know a lot of folks thought there should just be 3 servers right off the bat (pvp, pve and pve-rp) but no one likes a que time to get in and we had those for the first few weeks of release as it was. /shrug The merges'll be a bump and there'll be bitching like there always is.
Sometimes I think it's a shame servers aren't global like back in the FFXI days, but I know the up/down sides to that.
I'm pretty sure they stated that when they merge all the servers, if Server A has Character X and Server B has a Character X then whoever logs in first will get to keep their name.
