Not only that but there's really no point in paying a subscription anymore. The market's being flooded with F2P and B2P options, a couple of them being of superior and equal quality to P2P games. WoW can still get away with the sub 'cause they have such a massive base to set their leeches onto (though tbh with such a large net to cast, they'd probably do better selling more mystical unicorns and shit instead of charging a sub fee too), and RIFT... well tbh RIFT doesn't have an excuse, they'd do pretty well with a cosmetic and boost cash shop like GW2's. They still have a paying audience big enough for the companies to say fuck it and keep the model in place, though, and while common sense tells me that a F2P model will make more money over time (it's easy for me to spend $20 or so in each cash shop voyage I make in GW2 [about once a month], I can't be the only one, and I consider myself quite conservative when it comes to spending money) there's probably a reason for their stance on "noap".

I don't personally understand the negative stigma toward F2P/B2P games, like it cheapens them or something... all it does it make them more accessible to a wider audience and provide you with a shiny incentive to put in that $15+ a month to the cash shop, and a good model will retain the option of subscribing regularly for added bonuses.

The problem in this case is that there's a very fine line between F2P with incentives and straight up P2W (Pay to Win). I have no issue with a game that's F2P/B2P and offers incentives to spend money in the form of cosmetic items or convenience/time saving features. The problem with Tera's model is they're taking items that are available currently through in-game means and putting them in the cash shop exclusively. Items that are necessary for high end gear upgrading. If you pay a sub, you are given access to all of the convenience features, but instead of having in-game access to the items that you currently do, you are given a stipend of cash shop currency with which to buy them. And if you know how nasty Tera's RNG can be, you know that they're banking on people to spend money in the cash shop on top of the sub option. In other F2P games with a "sub", choosing that option pretty much means that unless you want a bunch of cosmetic items, you'll not have to spend any additional money.

So yeah, in this case I don't think it's so much a problem with F2P as with Tera's implementation of it.

Yeah there's no question about that, specifically a F2P/B2P game should include only cosmetics and quality of life items in the cash shop (XP Boosts, Rep boosts, etc.), not items that are integral to endgame progression. Hopefully NATera doesn't follow so closely in KTera's footsteps, and/or KTera revises their strategy.

As far as retaining an optional sub for F2P, I like the way KTera is doing it. Enhanced quality of life things (extra and cheaper Broker listings), enhanced XP/Rep/etc. gain, and that sort of thing. It gives you incentive to subscribe, but is by no means mandatory. Only bit of it that sort of says "you must subscribe or you will be hurt by this" is the dungeon lockout reduction, but that isn't a big deal for everyone and I'm sure they'll have separately buyable things for that.

Only major issue is their presumed restructure of high end alkhest, if they rectify that there won't be very much issue with the F2P system.

I wouldn't go crazy just yet with this news. I don't mind the P2P of Tera currently (I still have plenty to do amazingly) but if it does it end up going freenium like KTera/JTera, then it all depends on how EME handles it in the West. We never had t-cat coins to begin with, our cash shops were different with different items and sometimes even methods to attain said items, and we never had the capped at 58 F2P server model either. Our entire MMO culture is different as well considering a lot of Koreans play in net cafes whereas here in the West, we do it from home almost exclusively. Aside from the MW alkahest change (that is utter shit), subscribers continue like normal and with a couple new benefits. I imagine though even the Koreans are gonna rage over the MW alkahest change.

People have been asking them to take the "korean" out of it from day one, especially in regards to the soul-crushing RNG aspect. I don't think they're willing to, and I doubt the NA side has enough power to change the game as much as people may think they can.

-Masterwork Enchanting alkahest will no longer be purchased from NPC and purchased with T-Cat (cash)

LOL? I wanted to play tera again, but seriously? Fuck that.

Game suicide if that hit NA, doubt it will.

I suspect that it won't even make it into the Korean version. If it does, I don't really see the game lasting long enough to even get an NA F2P version finalized.

They said something about making tcats tradable so I wouldn't worry 100% just yet.

So their current plan is if you have 8 characters too bad you only get 4 if you aren't subbing anymore? Or is that something that's only for new accounts and not pre-existing accounts? It's a little confusing the way it's written to me and the KR link for pre-existing account benefits doesn't show up as more than a blank page.

K-Tera and NA-Tera have been different for a while now (no broker pets, no eggs, our PvP rules are different etc) so I wouldn't weigh in too much on the f2p rule set for K-Tera. Sure, the western versions will prob to f2p but lets wait and see what stipulations they put in first.

I think if you have a purchased copy of Tera, you'll have 8 slots, regardless of when you got the copy (i.e. before or after it goes F2P).

3V3 arena gear afaik. Already masterworked, 3% bonused, and +12. Tbh I would have left it up to players to enchant and such, but it is what it is.

Nah, they don't want PvP gear to be money based. Good move I think.

Funny because I would have payed money to not do nexus.

Na tera is finally getting all the nexus/bg price reductions for the f2p/arena patch btw. Ie: 19.5k agnitor weapon drops to 5k.

I know. But people don't want to go 1/160 MES to MW their weapon when Angel.Bunny goes 1/4.

This is still a good step.
