I don't see the hate meters =/ lol
also as far as instancing goes. Isn't FF the only game with instanced dungeons that can only have 3 max possible instances running at a time? obviously looks like they are using the same server tech from 11.

And to think, some people were so adamant that SE was using a brand new... well... EVERYTHING this time around.
Speculate enough and you can make facts of your own!
Those of you who are fluent in the Language of the Moon might want to look into this thread so that you can start cringing in advance about the dungeon mechanics you'll be complaining about later.

Actually read that here on these forums. There will be a limit to the amount of instances that can be run at the same time. 11 was the same. 11 had a 3 instance max on the ones that can be done simultaneously.

German rep post thingy.
nitpicking but 11 didn't have instances (other than salvage maybe?), it was just 3 copy paste of the same BC.
Early battlefields were 3 floating islands far away from each other, and when they were filled, nobody else could enter.
When they implemented assaults later, they added instanced zone, but there was still a limited amount of them to minimize server load. It was more than 3, but still not enough for everybody.
Well, depends on what your definition of "instance" is. People with more exploratory experience in XI's inner workings can correct me on this, but I don't think Salvage was done any differently from BCs. Without a current working zone explorer tool, I'd venture to guess that all the instances exist within the same zone space and are just differentiated by vertical distance. As an example, I believe you can invite people that aren't in your "instance" but are in the same zone (could be wrong).
The only technical difference I know of that separates BCs from what we commonly call "instance areas" is that you can't /search a BC from outside, whereas you can do that to instance areas.
It's things like that that won't allow the game to be decent. I don't understand it at all.
What people call instances is an entity that is created on demand, and is generally disconnected from the rest of the game. Pre-ToAU, you would be able to go inside any BC simply by changing your x,y,z position. You could literally fly from one fight to the other, and watch differents groups in one of the 3 areas.
Something like this was not possible in Salvage however. You were listed in the same zone, but you were not able to teleport yourself to another group's salvage. Every teams were in their own universe, and the server would simply create one more layer for every groups who wanted to get in.
I guess its just too much work to correctly fix it with the engine that they have in front of them. The mistakes go all the way back to initial design, then. I certainly hope this has caused them to at least put the brakes on their new MMO for even just a day to stop, think, and ask themselves "are we sure we're giving this engine everything we can to future-proof it for today and tomorrow's market?" I really, really hope they are, because this is yet another crowning example of what happens when you don't leave yourself enough room to modify and change your engine. You need to be able to do this shit on the fly, not over a matter of months.
Kind of off topic just a hare but it feels like we are talking about a game pre-launch. It's like an alpha/beta game over a year after the fact. With that being said, I feel like the ship is just on it's way down for the final time. It sucks because I (we) had high hopes but I just can't see it happening.
There is obviously a time limit because there is only 1 instance and they don't want 1 group to spend 5 hours in there cock blocking the rest of the server.
