SE needs to make it so that enhancing and healing magic skillup like offensive magic when casting on others relative to the target's level. So a level 60 casting Protect on a level 80 would be like casting Dia on an IT++ in terms of skillups. Casting on yourself would be like casting offensively on an even match.

    Necroooooo~!

Anyway, I've been trying to skill up my summoning magic through spirit spamming (267, owch), and I preliminarily (based on ~one hour of each food) found this:
Stuffed Pitaru - Doesn't do shit
Poultry Pitaru - Approximately doubles my skillup rate
Seafood Pitaru - Doesn't do shit

I get about 1 level per hour without any skillup food. The increase when I put on Poultry Pitaru was notable, but I'll try to quantify it and my baseline later tonight. I'm betting these skillup foods are tied to skill level range. Something along the lines of (<200; 200~300; >300).

One last weird thing. I swear each one of these foods lasted about 65 minutes with Sanction food duration enhancement on. Maybe it isn't a perfect doubling?

I'm a strong believer that the skillup foods work for tiers of skill level as well, especially since they introduced seafood pitaru and montagna (sp?). I haven't done any real testing though, just eyeballing, but based on my own experience and my experience as a Phalanx 2 biatch for my WAR friend, the Saltena/Elshena seems to work in this manner with a split somewhere around 190-200ish.

The moderately annoying thing about this setup is it'd be incredibly difficult to identify exactly what skill level qualifies as a new "tier" via observation, so there's a very high likelyhood that people working on slower skills (guard or summoning magic, for example) will use the wrong food when in the skill range around a tier transition.

Remember buff durations are frozen when you talk to an npc or chests or enter/leave zones. So the duration of the food might be doubled + the amount of time spent interacting with NPC or in a CS etc.

That's what I thought the first time it happened, but I've just been sitting here in the same spot spamming spirits. Also, I think I was too hasty before. I think Seafood Pitaru also affected my skillup rate. I'm getting a stronger baseline before I conclude anything though. It's kinda hard when it's 10k per Poultry/Stuffed and 33k per Seafood, haha.

Make friends with a cook and get the ingredients. There is a reason they are expensive.

(Also been selling a lot of montanga; the mats are not hard to get tho the habaneros are time consuming to get)

The theory I've heard batted about is they might have a higher cap, but I haven't seen any testing..
JP wiki states that each food tier gives higher skillup rate:
    http://wiki.ffo.jp/html/25100.html

    Melee Food Mage Food
    x1.2 Saltena Stuffed Pitaru
    x1.4 Elshena Poultry Pitaru
    x1.6 Montagna Seafood Pitaru
    x1.8 Maringna B.E.W. Pitaru

I can't figure out what is their source tho, I'd presume some JP game manual maybe.

It can. Defensive atmas + Grauberg conflux 7 and go nuts on skeletons.

I was curious about that myself. The figures are far too precise to have come from actual testing. It also gives a figure for Macaroons increasing synthesis skill ups. This is the Google translate for the page.

If anyone can find out about a source for this, I would appreciate it. (I am tempted to make a post on the official forums to try to get a response from the community team.)

Maybe imperial defense rating affects the boost to meal duration? I don't think it does but that's the only thing I can think of.

About a year late but yeah, this is how Sanction buff works (including food duration), I remember this from way way wayyy long ago back when Bahamut first lost the Candescence or whatever and my food was no longer doubling (I think base is like 1.1x, but it has been ages). However, that's that--the max duration is 2x, so if he's getting more they'd have to have changed it.

My Elshena lasted about 69 minutes. Pic of statustimer + sanction for buff duration reference. There is no way I talked to npcs for 9 minutes. Just a warp, zone to tahrongi, get atmas and conflux over; Which might account for a minute or two total.. but not 9.

Did you use food, and if so, did it help much?

I went from 269 to 280 in about half an hour before leaving because people were being asshats over mandragora claims.... one THF was running around Aeolian Edge-ing everyone's mobs, while a NIN kept trying to MPK people with that Cactuar NM...

only used prouesse ring, and I had all the mandys basicly for myself since noone was there, tough I had my rdm mule with me.

Having 20 mandys on you speeds things up tremendously

I wasn't able to go nearly that quickly on pup. I went to chigoe because mandies were occupied and other players were being complete jerks.
could pull about 15 chigoes. There was always a big rushof skill ups on a new pull, which tapered down as the mobs did.

What atmas did you use on PUP Xilk?

I'm currently capping off Shield/Parry on my RDM, going to work on Guard next, which I feel going PUP/WAR and using Automaton on cure-bot mode would be safer than MNK/WAR, particularly nowadays if you can get your pet to phalanx you often.

I capped Parry and Guard in ~30-45min

Parry was 340ish and Guard was ~320ish I think. Both are 417 now.

Food + Ring + Earring. Very nice update and I agree with the "you better cap your shit now" comment.
