Not sure about the technology limits of the time, seeing as there's no cgi in either. The first definitely had tight budget limits though (iirc the budget for the first evil dead was ~$100,000 instead of the current ~$15 mil) and Raimi ended up doing some really clever shit camera wise to get the shots he wanted while not being able to afford the right equipment.

Why is this called Evil Dead? Should be called Gory Crazy Clone Lady in the Woods. Was hoping this would have an Ash and the humor of the original.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

The humor in the original really wasn't intended, Bruce has said many times in the past that the humor was directly the result of bad actors.

I love how Fede Alvarez was asked at comicon about there being a humorous tone to the movie like the original and he just looked at the guy and said "You think that looks funny?"

You can argue he's sorta right in that AoD is almost always peoples first stab into that trilogy. I know I watched AoD first.

irrelevant, AoD was a parody of the original, not the original.

But for sure AoD is insanely more popular and when most people think of ED they think of AoD.

Budget limits is probably more what I meant to say, not technology. My bad.

Fucking AWFUL. I laughed throughout the entire movie. Mostly at the acting and the awful plot. Unless that was the point... in which case it did it's job. I've never seen the original Evil Dead, so I about a quarter of the way through I had a nagging suspicion the movie was meant to be satirical. The plot to The Cabin in the Woods is almost identical to this Evil Dead, but without the secret operations subplot.

Well the first one was funny like that. And yes, the plot to Cabin in the Woods was supposed to be identical to Evil Dead because they were playing off all the cliches of horror movies until they got to the secret stuff behind the cliches.

Why would you go purposely watch a movie named Evil dead and expect an acting tour du force or schindlers list? The Evil dead franchise is meant to be cheap thrills and laughs. Cabin in the woods was made as an homage to cheesy horror cliches.

It's like saying Cabin in the woods had the same plot as the grudge, night of the living dead and <insert horror movie>

I'm a huge fan of horror movies, but I found this one to be just ok. The gore and such I thought was well done, and I was more or less satisfied with the acting (for this kind of movie) except for the blonde. She was pretty bad. A fun movie nonetheless to see with your friends or significant other

I loved it. All the call backs to the original were great nods without following the previous movie too much and copping out. The gore was awesome and loved the ending.

Seriously. Evil Dead is the ultimate so bad it's unbelievably amazing. The first time you watch it's a mix of laughing at the awful and over the top effects but still having good scares mixed in. Evil Dead 2 took it on the chin and nailed it with humor while still being dark and not too cheesy. The perfect recipe for a horror flick is to cast unknowns and throw your budget at the gore and other effects.

Chips looks like a straight bitch with this bitch made 'laughing at the plot' shit. Bitch.
