While one team is in the finishing stages of implementing something new there should be a team just a few months behind them in schedule getting something else ready.
Except, the new team hasn't been there planning from launch, so how the hell were they supposed to plan for what's happening now before they're even a team with a direction?

Holy shit, the amount of rambling here is incredible. Or misdirected anger. The entire point is that it takes 6 months to make a completely new set of armour. This doesn't mean it takes 6 months for them to make any armour (as in modifying stuff already in-game and made). It doesn't mean you have to wait 6 months for content because there isn't enough time to make armour sets.

    Years.

I average 3-4 hours of sleep since I was around 12 or so, I'm over 30 now and still sleep the about same hours (and wakeup without an alarm clock).
You get used to it after awhile, to where it feels normal and your never really tired.

oh and speaking of model editing... almsot wish SE would maybe give out tools to do some model editing (like some public contest!).
Back when I did motion editing for FFXI... it took up to 3 weeks to make/fix a simple 3-4 second motion, for 1 race, to make sure all the weapons went to the correct location etc in the animations, and then to make sure it worked in game properly.
Of course this was way back in the early days when motion editing was new and only JP knew how to do it, so there were no english tutorials/guides etc.

Hoping one day maybe something similar to VRS will be out for FFXIV

The new team as you put it was swapping around 3 guys and firing one if I understood that email SE sent out a few months ago. That has no bearing on delaying the development process of shit that should've already been in the pipeline.

As far as misdirected anger, not sure how I could be angry about something I don't give a shit about anymore(SE or their development process). As for your other point, I think we're saying the same thing.

are you able to sleep less cause you make up for it in other areas? i.e. do you eat healthier and exercise more than the average person?

Yeah, if it was just low level grunts, I would agree it's not a big deal that changes plans. But when you change the director, who in turn changes the direction of the game. Then guess what? The old plans don't mean shit any more. How is that hard to understand?

We are not. I'm talking about the time it takes to make a new set of armour. You're talking about the time it takes to plan content and release it.

Some people just can. The best or most common example is politicians, especially those on the "front benches" (not sure if that's just a UK term or not) of governments and opposition. Most people leading countries do so on a few hours sleep a night, often for decades at a time, if not their entire lives.

I don't understand you because I live, work, and play in the real world.... for example. I work at a utility company that just came under a new CEO who plans/planned to change the direction of the company. Some directors were let go and even a few VPs. That was 4 or 5 months ago and its been business as usual since he got here.

You don't take over a leadership position and clusterfuck everything that's been going on before you arrived.

You've never worked in games before, that's for sure. Even a game that wasn't already a cluster fuck like XIV was can change at the drop of a hat. Plans don't mean shit until the game is actually released. From the time the concept document is made and the time the game is submitted for approval, everything can change, and most of it does.

The bolded part is a complete falsehood. I mean if that was true XIV would have never even fucking released.

I don't have to be a game designer to understand basic business logic. A product such as XIV is a multi million dollar business investment. Your bubble gum logic doesn't apply to something like that. It's way to counter-productive to massively overhaul what your people are working on when new leadership takes over. I'll site the political system as another example. Every 4 yrs some hopeful presidential candidate promises to change the world. How often do they succeed?

Change doesn't happen unless something like XIV comes along and even then its very gradual. Hell its been 9 months since XIV dropped, how much meaningful change do we have so far?

So based on the 'sleep' comments, they are getting 2ish hours asleep because they are working so diligently yet it's taking months to release a relatively small patch (in 1.18). This makes me wonder how often the devs sleep for WoW and RIFT because those games pump out the patches and with a lot more content. Maybe they don't sleep at all?

Jesus, you're dense aren't you? Just because plans CHANGE that doesn't mean things get put on HOLD, or STOP. If plans didn't CHANGE, then we never would have gotten auto-attack in a battle system. That kind of change (battle system), going from alpha to beta, from current to AA is the kind of thing that happens all the time.

    All. The. Time.

You have no idea how much things can change. Hell, if anything games like Duke Nukem Forever and Too Human are proof of what I said.

It's only counter-productive if it's a BAD IDEA. And guess what? XIV is a BAD IDEA. Actually it was a good idea horribly executed, but you get my point. Complete overhauls happen in games more often than you think, changes happen more often than you think. Anyone who works in the industry will say to never get attached to a piece of work. Because best case scenario it'll get changed, worst case it'll get scrapped.

Are you like, ignoring things that are coming? You just have to look at changes like AA and job systems, materia, etc etc to see how much the game intends to change.

Creative industries are a lot different from your standard business model. I work in film and televsion, and have even worked in gaming to an extent, and if a new director or producer takes the helm, the final product will always be different from the original plan. Usually drastically different. If something doesn't work creatively, then it's back to the drawing board. Doesn't matter how far things have gone.

I said change happens gradually. Obviously XIV was going to change. You spewed out some shit about Yoshida being able to change the face of the game immediately. I called your bullshit.

Just to be clear the above quote is where you are wrong.

I agree with this, It's not what I'm arguing. I'm arguing the speed of the change.

I mean, it's a fantasy setting, and they already have one MMO in the books to use as reference for "Things our bosses might want". Start churning it out asynchronously and don't let the development process be the bottleneck.
I wouldn't doubt this is how it works now. It would take even longer if they worked solely on commission.

Small patch? Isn't this patch supposed to be huge and the largest patch to be released to date? It doesn't look to be small to me at all.

Well, I didn't mean small/large in actual size but in regards to content. When you look at other games that constantly churn out game-changing content on a regular basis, you have to wonder why it's taking SE so long to do much of anything. It's just odd to me.
