Take my money already Sony!
I'd get it but uhh... no windower.
Wow, never saw this coming. Pretty cool idea if it works relatively smoothly.
I'd probably look into starting back up if this ever came to fruition. Bit more inconspicuous to play at work/school/outside/etc..![]()
You can already use Windower on hacked PSPs. :3

Very true. I use my phone's 3G connected to my laptop to play on a train all the time. Over the past year, it's gotten good enough that I don't get disconnected the entire four hour trip.
Anyway, I'll get in line to hand Sony and SE my money. Playing FFXI in Central Park would be awesome.
At least one of their MMOs has a chance of success on a new platform.
I don't know much about the vita, how does it work? What carriers?
This does almost seem like a plan to drag people off of ps2 and onto a new console. If you think about it when XI was released for the ps2 it was sort of a promotion with sony in america at least where you got the game and the ps2 hard drive. I wonder if they are trying to work a similar deal out possibly like a special 320$ model that comes with XI already installed or something. Or maybe they'll convince sony to allow them to have a 50 dollar rebate to purchase Vita with lol.
I'm pretty sure it's gonna come down to more then just porting the game and selling it like any other game if the plan follows through. SE probably has the numbers of all the ps2 players that still play the game so odds are they may attempt to show those numbers to Sony and explain how that this is there potential consumers if they work out a deal. They are probably putting together the thought that while one can play from ps2/360/pc the price range as it stands now is pc>360=ps2(if you consider hard drive cost).
Granted it would just be easier if they could just commission a special 500 GB HD for the ps2 then there would be no worries. overall the limiation comes from the size of the HD if it weren't for that then there would be no problem I think. If I'm right though I'm thinking SE will try to convince Sony that this new platform is cheaper then buying a pc and it allows you to play on the go. You have a gimmick that they can run with. Looking at all the info I can probably guess the reason why they aren't pushing to have XI work on ps3 is because of XIV though I wonder if that would change if XIV ended up getting canned lol.
I'm definitely interested in seeing where this story leads, if the whole idea behind Vita is to allow a window for XI to open it's wings then it would be nice to get a little light of hope that we'll see more unique zones in the future and perhaps even the whole world.
AT&T plan, what a joke.
The size of the PS2 HDD is fine. FFXI takes only about 4.2 GB out of the 8 GB it has for a partition. It's on a 40 GB drive, so if they could expand the partition size they'd be fine. Checking with HDLoader and WINHIIP, I can't seem to make a partition larger than about 8-9 GB, so the file system probably doesn't support larger partitions. That means they'd have to somehow make the game take multiple partitions. A larger HDD isn't going to help that, and there's plenty of room for more partitions, especially since most other online games that required the HDD have shut down and thus don't need to compete for HDD space.
Presumably it'll be like the iPad plan, which has no contract, but is also separate from your phone plan (whether AT&T or Verizon).
Or SE wants some of Capcom's Monster Hunter money, and this could be marketed to a similar audience. This does almost seem like a plan to drag people off of ps2 and onto a new console.
So this could be the answer to a FFXI HD, make ps2 users transition to their next-gen handheld. If this happens FFXI just extended its life exponentially. I'm sold
Gotta be honest, this is fairly amazing. The game is nearly 10 years old (2002?) and it will be the first true mobile mmo. (Someone correct me if WoW or Rift or something has a non-laptop outlet that I'm unaware of). This seems like a huge announcement. Wonder why they haven't announced it officially yet.
