Trying to split up an earring as both a DD/WS piece and yet a tping piece is kind of awkward. There are better WSing and DD pieces earrings already, so better to make an optimal tping earring to maximize gain, than thin out it.
Also, voidwatch is hard, and many people are predicting voidwatch will be most of our new content over the next few updates
epona's goes without saying. I want to know if I should be using rajas or mars's WITH my epona's.
edit: perhaps I read this wrong, reason I'm considering mars's is because Im not going to benefit from the 5 dex on either job, unless im hitting a ddex tier, which would be like 1% crit? and same goes w/ the str. Im wondering if the stp outweighs the 8acc/att, since i often see myself tping up to like 98% or 99% with mars's, but then again I also get alot of tp overflow due to random ta/da/ka
Rajas
Edit: Nevermind I totally thought mars ring was the new str ring, didn't realize the name was already taken by the AV drop.
In that case fucked if I know.
Elysian, more often than not, inside abyssea, the 8 att is gonna beat out rajas. Outside on voidwatch, or high tier dynamis mobs, where the acc comes into play, it def will. I hit 99 TP constantly with Rajas + eponas, so that's not gonna make a difference. H2H isn't a HIT-BUILD, and taking damage once during tp phase should just about make it take as many swings anyway. Not gonna completely math it out, but that 5 store tp def. does not do much if anything when ya factor everything in. As far as DEX, in abyssea it does nothing, outside it prob doesn't raise a crit tier. Str is a whopping 2-3 attack inside while outside I wouldn't even know if it raises fStr. I melee in 161 strength with food I believe, so fSTR is usually good and capped.
If this is true, would Keen ring be a viable option instead of Rajas inside then?
A question better fitted for RQT, but a bit on topic with this:
I'm pretty new to physical damage in FFXI. Previously always played a mage. Can someone explain attack vs str vs other bonuses? More towards a MNKs standpoint. I've boosted up to 999 attack and hit something and it didn't seem like I was hitting harder. I'm not seeing how 8 attack is going provide such a difference to 2 STR.
STR can add base damage (fSTR) to your weapon, up to a cap determined by your weapon damage. Adding 3 base damage benefits low base damage melee (Thief, Ninja, Monk, Dancer) more than high base damage melee (2H users) because (X+3)/X is a larger percentage increase the smaller X is.
Attack determines the (Your Attack/Target Defense) "Ratio," which is corrected against the level of the target you're fighting and then turned into cRatio. This cRatio determines the range of values pDIF can take (higher cRatio = higher pDIF values), and pDIF is also the stage where critical hits are applied. The page needs some work, but it has level correction at least. I'll probably toss the best fit equations for pDIF up there tonight.
So you have an equation that looks like this:
(Base Damage + fSTR)*(pDIF) = Damage Done
As a general rule of thumb, increasing the Attack/Def Ratio by X% will result in a >X% change in non-crit pDIF, up until you get close to the cap, but <X% chance in crit pDIF. In situations like Abyssea with high crit rate, it's a little less advantageous to stack Attack than it is outside. After you cap fSTR (which is easier for low base damage weapons), there's no point in stacking STR at all though. That's why it's generally kind of goofy for 1H DDs to TP in STR in Abyssea. For comparison, it's fairly safe to assume level ~95 monster VIT is approximately ~80.
Awesome, thanks. Made it more clear than just the equations on the wiki pages.
Calmecac Subligar the best for Ukko's Fury?
i believe so, yes
Why are ukko pants such a problem here? Inside abyssea: perfect bellicus > ravager+2 > wtfareyoudoing. Outside crit damage byakkos are best if you are getting a big chunk of crit rate from the dex. Otherwise it is back to bellicus > ravager+2. I can't manage to come up with a realistic scenario where calmecac beats ravager+2 unless you need the accuracy. Even against hard stuff outside abyssea where you are gaining fstr, 5 DA is still even with 7 str, and 15 attack beats 2 crit rate then.
I'd venture to say that if Byakko's are giving you a chunk of Crit. Rate outside Abyssea, then N.Legs+1 with Crit. Rate +4% would be the bet option.
And for hands, Heafoc or Heca+1 with Crit Damage +4%?
Inside Heafoc unless you can get STR on Heca+1 iirc. Outside AF3+2, unless you get the same deal on Heca+1.
I haven't paid much attention to augment stuff, but yeah heca subligar+1 with crit rate 4 should beat byakkos with crit damage 4 in general. For hands, heca+1 inside abyssea. Outside heafoc will win if your crit rate is low and the dex isn't going to change that fact. If your crit rate is towards the high end then the -dex on heafoc would hurt your crit rate, so heca+1 wins.
