How is that even close to being optimal?

Overkill on sTP even for a 5 hit, uncapped haste, low att, and less DA then faz set.

EDIT:You're assuming I'm talking about VW, which I'm not. You obviously don't gear for VW the same as you would everything else in the game, if I was talking about VW sets I would have mentioned that. Having a dedicated/seperate TP set for VW in the first place is kind of pointless with cor and temps, since as you pointed out TP phase is minimal.

That and I don't even use sam for VW, 99.9% war.

OK, I'm not much of a mathlete myself, but one thing I can do is figure out sTP sets, and that one is off too. If that's including sTP merits way too much for a 5 hit, without sTP merits it's not enough for even 2 hit WS AND with unkai legs.

Is 5 hit really back in vogue for sam? I was still under the impression that 6 hit > especially with Masa aftermath.

As I'm still acquiring my Verethragna at a snail's pace (by no fault of my friends; we simply play rarely), I'm curious as to Shijin Spiral's viability. By Googling, I've uncovered Kinematics's breakdown on Allakhazam, and I've seen PUPs talking about it here on BG.

However, I have not definitively seen someone answer this question for me (besides a pre-update post that read like an off-handed comment):

Which is better, a fully merited Shijin Spiral, or Ascetic's Fury?

Any input, including general gearing advice for the former (which I'd imagine would go in the descending order of DEX > STR/ATK), would be greatly appreciated. I play MNK, not PUP, and the same goes for my roommates.

Outside Abyssea there's no contest, Shijin completely stomps Ascetic's (like on the order of 2:1). Inside Abyssea, they end up actually being fairly close to each other, and on most mobs I'd say that there's probably no real preference for one or the other. Some of the higher def mobs, Ascetic's might win.

For gear pref, I'd say Shijin would take dex over att at a 2:1 rate (ie: 2 points of att to match 1 point of dex), and over str at 1.5:1 or 2:1, depending on how quickly you're approaching capped fStr.

Thank you for the in-depth answer. Yes, I'd definitely never use Ascetic's outside Abyssea; that's why I still have my Asuran macro. However, I look forward to being able to have a single WS I rely on both inside and outside, which Shijin will handily provide till Smite is mine.

I did a very rough insertion into the spreadhseet and it does appear to beat the shit out of loki's. Assuming the spreadsheet didnt factor in the set bonus on toci's ( i made a new set bonus toci entry) the two are exactly equal atm without factoring in the crit bonus of athos. So id guess athos is ahead thanks to set bonus on multihits as only the first hit is a forced crit.

Neither of the ws I asked for can crit naturally so I don't understand what you mean by the last sentence. But basically if you have the set bonus from toci's it would win against Athos, for stacked Rudra's is what you're saying? Otherwise they're about the same?

With set bonus it came out exactly equal to athos assuming ocelomeh+1 head. I dont have rudra's so i forgot that it cant crit naturally which means the critrate set bonus means nothing. So tldr they're equal vs a random VW monster.
I just rechecked on the fodder mob settings and it'sa clear winner vs those so I'd go athos once that actually drops.

I didn't do any inside abyssea calcs.

For super tanking AoE farming mandies on monk via Cata spam:

With +2 relic feat and atma of roaring laughter, it seems I've pretty much capped counter rate. I'm not sure though what A: staff and B: back I should wear for this.

I've determined my damage from counterattacks significantly dwarfs the damage from my normal attacks, so obviously +2 relic feet are auto in, however I'm not sure if the +20 attack from atheling or +10 base damage from counter dmg+ back is better for idling in wile fighting.

Essentially when facing down 20 mandies, for each one of my attacks I'm doing at least 20 or so counter attacks. It's pretty ludicrous damage on its own.

Second, should I use fulcrum pole for raw beat down, or Pluto's for its huge bonus to cataclysm?

I'm actually leaning towards fulcrum pole, just because I'm somehow almost killing over half of the mandies before I am actually even engaging them. My counter attacks alone are actually doing the job @_@

But you can't counter if you aren't engaged... Sounds more like you are just lagging so much that you spend alot of time sitting there technically engaged but it doesn't look like it so you can't ws
