Splitting a 12 episode series into 2 movies retelling it would mean either a pair of really short movie, or a bunch of new scenes. Hopefully it's the latter, though I'm kinda :/ in waiting for 3 movies.

It would need a bunch of new scenes if they plan 2 movies for 12 episodes lol. Perhaps more details on Kyoko's or Mami's past? More details on alternate Madoka, Homura and the rest of the gang?

I'll jump in and say yes. I'd rather have 2 movies of new content rather than 2 movies of the original series on fastforward. Some of that magic from the anime was lost and it was just replaced by bigger mecha.

Seriously, I could see this for, say, the Nanoha movie - it had been a long time since Nanoha first came out so the movie might have drawn a new crowd of fans, plus the series had a lot of extra fluff that could be safely cut away. In Madoka's case, it hasn't even been a year since it finished its run, and every episode was filled with poignant scenes that were necessary (imo) for character development and maximum impact of where the story ended up going. Retelling a series that just came out in 2 movies is some Wolf's Rain shit.

Guess studios will do anything they can for cash. Btw is that slice of life version of Madoka still in the works or was that all talk?
