Fall 2011 Anime thread

They seem to be trying to throw as many anime tropes and cliches as they can into this show. Even if they don't fit with the tone they've tried to set up so far. It's also pretty illogical, and everyone in the show just seems to kinda accept things as they come, without any real sense of weight and there is nothing to make the characters engaging.

Nothing like the games, but seems just like the TV series; basically what was done, with Galaxy Angels, but to a totally different level.

Really happy with this weeks Persona, Penguin, and Chihaya. All are a huge improvement from last week. I didn't expect it but Persona is my favorite comedy outside of Ika Musume and Working which is a bit surprising since I had no expectation for it to do so well with it.

UN-Go continues to be unappreciated for what it is. The pacing of each episode is quick but there is no wasted time in any episode and each story has been individually interesting. And what it does that Dantalian no Shoka didn't is that there's some continuity and continuity between the episodes. I really like what Kazamori brings to the anime. Definitely the most underrated anime of the season imo.

Yeah, all this weeks anime was great (though I haven't watched GC yet).

No one really talks about UN-GO because I guess there isn't much to talk about? But I like it either way, it's not the best show, but I like it. Inga is interesting and weird (holy shit arms). Also good to see Yuuki solve something on his own.

I just finished catching up with Ben-to. It's all pretty off the wall, but "I'll shove it in you!" broke me.

Also saw Last Exile e04 now that Commie is starting to catch up and wow... Before that episode I would never have seen that coming.

The moment they mentioned the Silvanus I started getting wary since it sounded so similar to Silvania, and honestly I thought they were just drawing on the previous series' names and designs to keep us interested, but I definitely was not expecting to see Tatiana and Alister, let alone their trademark vanship. Between them and Dio my curiosity is piqued.

Can't wait for Commie to finish e05.

FZ's pacing continues to be amazing, slightly annoyed by the change to that one scene though, thought the origin gives Kiritsugu more character depth.

Guilty Cliche Ep 4-5

The show still continues to be ridiculously cliche and illogical beyond belief. I’m not going to nitpick on the plethora of plot holes as many have pointed but I will comment on this, holding a giant sword and a girl in your arms doesn’t make you cool if later you are back being the biggest pussy in the world.


Working Season 2 Ep 7

Such a fun episode, it's still unbelievable how much better this season is than the first. The Souma x Yamada stuff is always great and I'm happy Yamada's brother finally made his debut appearance.

Fate/Zero Ep 7 Caster is awesome

Another strong episode, this series has only gotten better as it has moved along. Rider and waver are obviously the best characters and it seems next week is going to have even more awesome fighting, can't wait.

PS The kids turning into tentacle monsters was freakin epic.

Potentially, at the pace it's going, giving Madoka a run for best anime in several years. Madoka has a leg up due to being original.

Basically this week was great all around and kicked Week 5's ass backwards a few times. Going to start my mid-season review soon which means I need to rank these anime. Should be fun to see where they end up.

If the "mass" consist of otaku, sure, but the first Last Exile is gender neutral, and was one of the most praised anime around the world. I don't understand why they didnt follow in those footstep.

Autumn 2011 Mid-Season Review:

Figured it's the midway point of the Fall season already, so I wrote up everything about every anime I'm watching. Kinda curious how everyone else feels about the anime they're watching this season and which ones people are liking the best and which ones are big disappointments.

I'm following Chihayafuru, Future Diary, Guilty Crown, Last Exile, Mawaru Penguindrum, Persona 4, Shinryaku Ika Musume S2, Tamayura, The Idolmaster, UN-Go, and Working'!! which I'm sure everyone can identify with (at least a couple). Keeping an eye on Haganai, Ben-To and Fate/Zero this season, too, but aren't watching them. Been an amazing season so far and I think everyone's happy with what anime are airing so far.

Can't wait to see what the second half of the season has in store for us!
